According to set reports, the rumors about the TARDIS exterior were true. 11 is traveling in a Hartnell style TARDIS (white windows and St John's sticker).

do you guys think using a "modern" companion is a necessary for keeping the companion as someone that the audience can relate to? I think it would be interesting if the new girl was from either the past or the future.

I think the modern companion has been done a bit much, imo. It was necessary to introduce people to the new show, but I'd like to move on at this point. I'd take a gal from the past or a guy from the future (Jack!) or whatever. Just not another English girl from our time.

Oh what am I saying? I'll watch it and love it no mater what they do! :D

As for the costume... bow tie? Really? I was kinda hoping the Mickey Mouse shirt and scarf was the new costume. :lol

The new costume would be perfect for an older actor but looks pretty stupid on a Doctor who looks like he's just left school.

Amy Pond, River Song...............is Moffat's agenda going to be naming female characters after bodies of water? :lol

If there's one thing you can say about the costume designs for the modern Doctors, it's unimaginative.

Thank goodness for that!

:lol IMO Tennants outfit was perfect. It was distinctive but not over the top. I don't offhand dislike the new outfit, but would like to see what else is in the combination (fashion word) like what coat he'll wear. LOL. I do like the color pallete with that wine colored cuffs and bowtie as it is nicely different from the blues and browns of Tennants Doctor. Only part I'm not sure of is the pants are really plain.

I am also digging that Eleven looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy. I always thought he was Doctor-esque.

Love it. Nice to see the quirk creeping back in. He looks like he could have walked straight out of any decade of the last hundred years.

thats the difference between the 70s and 80s POV of the future and today's. We now view the FUTURE=TIMELESSNESS and CLASSIC not some perceived trendyness, wild and mismatched cloths, etc.

Regardless of his costume the important thing is how Smith plays the character.

Well, of course that's the most extreme example. He doesn't need to wear a technicolor dreamcoat or have vegetables hanging off his lapels, but it would be nice is they at least used a little imagination. I guess they blew their load on that craaaaazy bowtie. Oh well, it's just a costume. I'm sure the show itself will be fine.

I really would rather see costume changes than one costume/uniform. The Doctor is a living eccentric being, only stands to reason he wouldnt wear the same outfit EVERYWHERE.

I would have liked something slightly quirkier myself, but it's the most classically "Doctor Who" of the three modern Doctors so far. It's downright Edwardian, in fact. Looking at the forthcoming SDCC exclusives reminds me how bland the first two Doctors' costumes were compared to the rest, and yet now they're legendary. I'm sure we'll see this look as iconic in years to come.

It's been a tradition since the very first episode way back in 1963 and probably a huge part of what made the character such an enduring institution. That said, I do like the Pertwee/Baker/Tennant approach where you keep a basic vibe and silhouette but change out pieces every so often. But the Doctor himself needs to be recognizably in the same "uniform" when he arrives and departs. It's part of the magic. Indeed wearing the same clothes makes him stand out as eccentric all the more.

Yea, I guess the using of the word silhouette is more precise. For 11, keep the jacket, boots and trousers.. but maybe lose the bowtie at times, pop on a thin hoodie.. just something different but same basic look. That to me, is a costume change. Nothing too radical but just different incase there is a better look. As it stands now, it's a look that will need to grow on me.
