i'm sure they'll lose the tie now and then, just like Tennant, and change suit colors now and then like they did with Tennant. I'm thinking he'll get some type of overcoat or something too. Maybe that will be a more lively element?

I agree.

I didn't watch the Eccleston Doctor until after I discovered Tennant because I thought his clothes were lame and un-Doctorish and so I assumed the series was a reimagining. It wasn't until I saw Time Crash on Youtube that I discovered that wasn't the case and after watching all of series 2 and 3 I went back and watched CE and he is now one of my all time favorite Doctors.

The moral: Don't judge a Doctor by his costume. :lecture

haha I remember watching The Enemy Within, or Doctor Who the TV movie or whatever you want to call it and looking at Sylv and thinking "okay.. kinda boring", and Eight didn't do much either in terms of costume (fair play, it WAS an actual costume :lol) But Nine was interesting and made sense in the sort of time we were in, and it helps I saw it at about 3 am on Sci Fi. 10, I think, had the best modern costume so far. 11.. like I said, not sure yet.

I'm wondering if his lighter color outfit will mirror his personality? I felt both Eccelston's definately mirrored his dark attire and Tennant with contrasting bold primary colors matched his frenetic energy.

Will the new Doctor be a "lighter" Doctor, maybe a white knight and really heroic type Doctor? Hmm? Shades of the 5th Doctor maybe?

I think comparisons with Davison will be inevitable due to his young appearance but I would hope however that he's something different because Davison was Doctor Average, neither good or bad, just sort of "there".

I thought of Docs 1-7 Five had the most character development.

I admit I'm basing my view on a total of 7 stories but apart from "Earthshock" he never seemed a very commanding presence and I almost expected him to burst into tears when faced with an enemy instead of facing up to them and with Matt Smith looking even younger I think it's pretty unlikely he'll be any different.

As great as that costume would have been for an older actor it looks totally ridiculous on Smith as it goes against the whole "young" vibe they are trying to promote.

we shall see. personally, I'm prepared for a whine fest in this thread for the next year or more...lol.

Who ever said they were trying to promote a "young vibe"? :lol

i can't see myself getting too disappointed in anything except if they really try to cram certain social agendas into the show.

Casting 2 leads that barely look like they've left school would seem a pretty strong indication.

Not really. Especially considering its "the norm" for one of them too be in their teens... and 27 is hardly "just leaving school". There are brain surgeons who are just as old as Matt Smith.

I know he's actually 27 but he looks ten years younger. When I first saw switched over to Confidential when the announcement was made I initially thought they were talking to a young fan or something and when I realised that was the actual choice I knew the revived series had well and truly jumped the shark.

Davison is also Moffat's favorite Doctor.

Did he develop? For my money we've got the first Doctor starting off as an amoral kidnapper and ending up a hero, the fourth Doctor shifting from moody to bohemian to funereal and the seventh Doctor growing from clown to dark manipulator.

The only person trying to promote that is you. Moffat is on record as preferring an older actor and indeed he went into casting fully expecting to wind up with someone in his late 40s. Smith's audition blew him away. I think we see from the costume and the reports of a TARDIS lab and such that Moffat is very much going with the "old man stuck in a young man's body" approach. No sane person aiming for a young vibe is going to serve up the pictures we saw today. They're the nail in the coffin for that silly argument.

They never have, although of course with 45 years as a unflinchingly liberal program they're always going to annoy a few FOX types. Bear in mind gay people exist in real life and you've got the guy who created Captain Jack in charge. They're going to be in the show.

Its too bad you doggedly allow your knee-jerk reactions to kill any possible open mindedness you might have otherwise have had about the series. :monkey2

If the Internet existed in 1980 that's what forums would have been saying about Davison. And even a cursory knowledge of fan history shows the things we know take for granted (or even view as iconic classics) were once considered jumping the shark - fandom had a collective meltdown when The Deadly Assassin aired!
