So glad to see our little thread finally getting some action! :chew

I just watched with the fam we unanimously agree that the future of Who is bright indeed. Personal thoughts in the spoilers...

One thing that I'm a little fearful of is that some of the previous Moffat "tricks" were pulled again in this ep:

"In the corner of your eye..." = "Don't blink"

Girl Amy to Woman Amy = Whole Madame de Pompadour in "The Girl In The Fireplace

I was still a little apprehensive about Matt Smith, he just seemed too young, but he definitely has a commanding presence as The Doctor.

I'm really glad Murray Gold stuck around, imo he's the best composer for television today. However, the title song really threw me for a loop. It wasn't as "adventurous" as the last. I guess they were going for a more "mysterious" vibe. It takes a bit to be recognized as the Who theme song. It's okay, I guess, it's just... different.

The big reveal of all the monsters and faces of The Doctor to the giant eyeball made me squee like a little girl!

Overall, I really liked it, and I'm super excited to see everyone here feeling about the same. :banana

Those are obvious similarities from his earlier work on the show but all writers reuse their own ideas to a degree so I don't think it's any cause for concern.

In any case I am adopting the approach that nothing from the last era matters from here on out and I'm going to treat pretty much everything with an open mind.

The last few years have been the rehearsal, now the main performance has begun!

Well, as for Moffat reusing ideas like "corner of your eye"....he did say it was to get around the perception filter and Amy is just so fine looking that I don't care what ages they show her at :lol

I want it to be Saturday again right now

Just rewatched The Unicorn and the Wasp and found out there was a little foreshadowing in it.....

Matt Smith is going to be just brilliant, isn't he?

Pity about the new theme tune, though.

I was kind of hoping we had heard the last of Murray Gold.

IMO he should've hit the bricks with the others that far outstayed their welcome but at least his influence on the show is minimal as it's easy to hit the "mute" button when the theme tune plays :)

Peter Howell's theme is the best IMO.

That one is great. I'd love to see Orbital's version used somehow - maybe in closing credits or something:

I remember years ago, i was at one of my regular bars and they played these tracks..it was a bit of a WTF moment. :lol

Second one sounds a bit like something frontline assembly would do. What bar? I've hit many Toronto bars in my time. Velvet underground?

Haha, yea Velvet might have played some Rotersand for sure on Thursdays and Sundays, i heard these played at Zen Lounge which later became Fun Haus. I used to frequent Velvet, Zen,Sanctuary a few times before it closed,Savage Garden on occassion,Vatikan,Bovine a few times, went to Dark Rave at the Big Bop(which ran from like 10pm-6am still serving lol!) a few times and also hit up quite a few sketchy after hours as well.

I've been back to Velvet last year but, its nothing like it used to be and most of the bars that played that type of music are closed now.

I think i just grew out of that stuff now, still love the music but, the desire to go downtown and spend $120+ or so every thursday or Friday has faded, saved lots of money too just drinking at home or at friends places(some of which have kids now),local pubs etc. I started spending lots more on collectibles once my club days were over, i don't regret it at all, i mean after all you really are just renting the beer/alcohol since you piss all the rest out anyway, plus $1.50 tip to the bar each drink..all adds up..waste.

Really?, i can't stand the smell of downtown(polluted air/waste plant smell) anymore and the traffic congestion. If i do any shopping now, i usually drive out to Markham, Durham or Vaughan area. Sure there is heavy traffic there at times as well but,the fresh air and peaceful ambience of these areas make it totally worth the drive. You probally just mean't that you missed the bars no?, i mean Toronto is still a great city and i especially love all the diverse culture there and some very exotic resturants as well.

And on to Dr.Who, its actually quite hard to find Dr.Who stuff around here. I know there is a site i have been eyeing and they are local as well, apparently they show up at various toy shows(i've never heard of them) but, wish they had a actual physical store.

I agree, I love the original version but think Howell did a great job of updating it for the 80's.

By comparison the Nu-Who themes have got too much going on and in places it's difficult to recognise it as being the Doctor Who theme. Sometimes less is more.
