That was the problem with the episode for me, i never once belived the 5 years later world was real. The van had ADW number plate which i took to mean 'A dream world' seen as the camera took extra time to focus on it. I think humour wise VoV was the best episode so far, Matt had a lot more personality than i had seen before. I think this series has a bit of a reliance on the 'perception filter' gimmick than the others, it was too easy to use that for the vampires after prisoner 0 had done the same thing in 'eleventh hour'

Just finished "Amy's Choice" - WOW!!!!! OMG!!!! OMG!!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! :panic:

What a fantastic episode. I really loved the last episode, but this one just blew it away. Very good, very original, especially in nu-Who.

I was going insane trying to determine the identity of the Dream Lord, but my wife guessed it really early on somehow. I think she was just shooting in the dark though.

Loved it. Definitely has a place somewhere in my top 10 of all time list.

Next week looks a little "meh" though... We'll see, I guess.

So I was watching End of Time Part 1 this morning and really.. I think the show would have been much better had someone stood up to RTD and not given him carte blanche to do as he wished. While I will enjoy the RTD era - Im enjoying the era of The Moff much, much more.

7 weeks in Steven Moffat & Matt Smith have totally won me over and whilst there's only been one real gem so far I think the way the Doctor is being written and performed makes RTD and Tennant look like bad amateurs.

I don't think it makes Tennant look like an amateur, just shows that RTD really should have had someone over him. The whole time line that he wanted is SO messed up by the end of his run it's not even funny. Just little cuts here and there would make things better. I do, however, see these cracks as a way of "correcting" everything in the past to make one much more streamlined continuity and for that I am pleased. It's not a reset so much as a streamlining, a heavily needed one at that.

Oh and the longer we are away from "modern" day and time spent traveling to different times, places and even in the TARDIS make the show just feel different.

hmm. funnily the latest season hasn't really blown me away (just finished flesh and stone). nothing totally bad, but just not enthralled. some of the solutions to the problems confuse me, seem a little made up as they go along or something. it may be I don't understand what they're talking about, the accents or something. as rushed as tennant's doctor seemed, i usually understood what he was trying to do. with this doctor, i don't always get it.

I watched Time of Angels, Flesh and Stone, and Amy's Choice with my brother last night and he had the same thing to say. He thought the new Doctor Who is confusing as hell.

While you can argue that Smith has a better written doctor than Tennant, there really hasn't been any great episodes this season (Amy's Choice was good, but doesn't even rank in my top 5 since 2005).

watched tooth and claw last night, its a great episode i think partly because i think it was well balanced and written. Thats one of my favourite episodes of Tennants time, Dalek is definatley awesome for Ecclestone which is suprising because i cant stand them any other time. If Vampires in Venice had slowed down towards the end and used a better plot device rather than just flicking a switch it would easily be my fave episode of Nu-who so far, the humour got me the most. I wonder what Tennant would of become under Stephen rather than RTD?

Had Moffat been in charge from the beginning of Tennant's run there's no way I would have ended up hating him to the point where I wish his era could be removed from the continuity.

Thats some strong hate, did you also hate Eccleston as much?

Nope, despite playing second fiddle to Billie Piper for most of his run I thought he was excellent especially in "Dalek" and "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances".

Had 10 not been constantly rammed down people's throats as being the best thing ever in the media or over promoted to the point where the participants in Classic DVD commentaries were blatantly being told to sing his praises I would likely have retained some measure of indifference to his one trick pony act but it just felt like a concerted attempt to force people into liking him no matter what.

It has to be said the attitude of his more biased fans also played a part. According to them he's the only Doctor where no criticism is allowed AT ALL.
