Definatly start with 2005. Regardless of what bcm says, there is alot of good that came out of the RTD era. Youl be missing out on some really great stuff if you skip straight to this year. Plus there is some stuff that just wont make sense to you.

I definitely plan on starting with 05 and watching all of those then I will decide if I want to go back to the beginning.

A lot of good indeed. Some of the best Who stories ever written imo.

Dalek
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
The Girl in the Fireplace
The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
Human Nature/Family of Blood
Blink
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Midnight

Just dont be put off by the Aliens of London or Love and Monsters episodes, there are some great episodes over the 4 RTD series and some very face palm ones and moments. My favourites are either Tooth and Claw, Sontaran Stratigem or Midnight.

I never watched Doctor Who until the 2005 series. It quickly became one of my favorite shows, so naturally, I rented some classic episodes from Netflix. I was appalled by how terrible they were. I couldn't believe it was the same show! :lol

Eventually, I found some good classic episodes and warmed up to the classic series. But it wasn't until I watched 3 seasons of the new series that I became invested enough in the character to wade my way through the older series.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a full-on Who fan now, but I remember watching my first classic episodes and being horrified. Thankfully, there is so much classic material out there that you'll find something you'll like if you're put off at first.

Dalek
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
The Girl in the Fireplace
The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

Blink

Midnight

"Dalek" = The ending is stolen from 1988's "Remembrance of the Daleks".

"The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" = Decent but still not worth watching more than a couple of times.

"The Girl in the Fireplace" = Full of the romantic, sentimental drivel that blighted the first 4 revived series. Awful.

"The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" = I like the Ood but that's it.

"The Family of Blood/Human Nature" = Tedious beyond belief.

"Blink" = A generic sci-fi story with the Doctor Who credits added to it.

"Silence of the Library/Forest of the Dead" = Haven't a clue as I've never seen it. River Song's presence is enough for me to dismiss it entirely.

"Midnight" = Like the other eps in series 4 that I watched I've largely forgotten about it as that series was some of the worst television I've ever watched in any genre.

From the last series I liked,

"The 11th Hour"
"Victory of the Daleks"
"Amy's Choice"
"Vincent & the Doctor"

The latter 2 are the best modern Who stories by a long, long margin and almost come up to the standard of some of the best Classic stories.

Almost :)

"The 11th Hour"

"Vincent & the Doctor"

"The 11th Hour" = Long and tedious with a very cheap feel to it and villians that made little sense

"Victory of the Daleks" = Easily the most critically panned episode this year, entirely wrapped around introducing a new Dalek design that is hated by everyone just for the sake of selling new toys. Also demonstrates the huge contrast between the RTD and Moffat era budget by showing a Dalek ship that looks like minorly redressed high school cafeteria.

"Amy's Choice" = Badly written and acted drama, with a plot that is so clche you can guess the whole episode without even seeing it. The return of more cheap as hell villians that make little sense, chosen to be portrayed by a group of people very unsuited to doing action scenes (and it shows). Oh, and the main "mystery" of the episode is painfully obvious from the first minute.

"Vincent and The Doctor" = Il admit that this one had more good than any of the other episodes this year. Unfortunatly it was nearly ruined by the uneeded poresence of a goofy monster (which once again is done in a ridiulously cheap way and written as to not make much sense). This was one episode that was begging to be taken seriously, but its hard with everyone introducing so much goofyness to it at every opportunity.

See, I can do it too.

Im not mocking him, thats how I feel too.

Im just annoyed how he dismisses episodes and other things from the RTD era as if his word is fact.

I don't see him as putting it across as fact. Brendan is pretty well aware that nearly all of us here don't share his opinion. His criticisms are mostly with the writing whereas yours have to do with the downgraded CGI which was due to budget cuts across the board at the BBC.

Still don't understand why you need to be aggressive. If his opinion bothers you either discuss it or ignore it. But there is no need for comments like "See, I can do it too". Do we all need to preface our comments with "It is my opinion that..." in order to play nice?

:wink1:

didn't you know? people aren't allowed to like anything from the RTD years without being 'a Tennant fanboy'.

:slap

I give up. Some people just can't discuss TV shows without getting their undies in a paste.

I shall now relinquish my role as self appointed mediator. :lol

Totally agree that the latter 3 are very good stories, especially Vincent and the Doctor, that was just a gorgeous bit of writing and acting there, but I thought 11th Hour was maybe the worst episode of series 6. I'm kinda surprised you like that one considering Matt was basically doing a Tennant impression in that one. I was greatly relieved when he settled into his own Doctor with The Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks.
