Kinda is easily a much better story than Earthshock. Even Snakedance is much better IMO.

Any stories that Moffat considers great ( as he does with the above ) have no intrest to me.

I didn't really like RTD but he at least had the good taste to acknowledge the genius of Robert Holmes and the quality of "The Talons of Weng-Chiang".

That Moffat thinks the Davison era is great is no suprise when you look at how lifeless many of his own stories are.

That's a bit closed minded, don't you think?

Perhaps, but Moffat's Who is what's finally convinced me never to waste time with the modern show again so any Classic episodes he likes are sure to bore me in much the same way especially with Davison as the Doctor as he lacked anything resembling a personality.

Some one on another board made the same claim so someone else did a frame by frame screen capture. You can't see jack in that space suit.

Well there goes my theory then:

I love 'Earthshock' it was pretty cool Cyberman story, 'The Caves of Androzani' was bad-ass though and oddly the story i watched after i watched my first 5th story 'Castrovalva'

Another plot line i guess is in force now is the 'Its not sonic, Its not a screwdriver' and i have no idea what is happening. Theres quite a lot going on at the moment!

So what if you learned that Moffat ranked Caves of Androzani has one of his favorites, does that mean you will stop liking it? :lol

It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense and seems a shame that you would miss out on stories you may like for such a shallow reason. To each his own I guess. :dunno

If there's one thing in the world I want it's never to be accused of making complete sense :lol

Maybe my disgust for anything related to Moffat will diminish in time but after a first series that started to rebuild my faith in the modern show 4 out of the 5 episodes I saw this time round reduced it to less than zero.

His penchant for endless unanswered questions combined with the 1000mph pacing reduces the proceedings to a vast stream of white noise that requires some kind of implant to descramble everything into a coherent story and for those of us with crap memories it's impossible to remember all the details that may or may not be important in the next episode, or series, that may be a red herring, from an alternate universe.....or is it?

And then there's the River Factor.....a character so awful she actually makes Mel & Donna seem great.

Moffat's storytelling style in the first half of series 6 has put me off the idea of watching Nu-Who again so much I'm even buying Colin Baker era DVD's.....if that's not a sign of his evil I don't know what else is :lol

Your forgetting something.

... she was the girl in the spacesuit that shot him in the first episode of the season. River's timeline and the doctors are going in opposite directions. As far as she knows, she killed the doctor when she was Very young. And lets not forget that right after it happens, river tries to shoot the girl, and fails. since when has river EVER missed? what was her response to missing? " of coarse..." as in she realized after the fact that she can't shoot herself as a small child. the web of time won't allow it. She Killed the doctor, and now she's atoning for it. perhaps even trying to find a way to re-write her own past and prevent it from happening.

Nope didn't forget and I am not buying that at all. Everything makes us believe that the "good man" is the Doctor. But if you look closer, it ain't him.

Question about last week.

How did the doctor get his sonic screwdriver back?

Before they all left in the Tardis in the climax, he gave the screwdriver to Doctor Goo so he can defeat the Jennefer-Flesh-Monster Thing, but then later dissolves fake Amy Pond with it. When did he get it back?

Ok, so I've finally seen A Good Man Goes to War. Good episode for the most part, but that had to be one of the least shocking revelations in tv history.

Matt Smith was on top of his game, especially in the Col. Run Away scene. He's a bit like Sylvester McCoy in the sense that his Doctor is much better than the stories he's being put into.

Anyone else annoyed by the fact that the episode was being aired in super fast motion?

I've been seeing a lot of complaining about the lack of "surprise" with "A Good Man Goes to War". The joy is in the story, the characters, their reactions to the information the viewer may or may not have already ascertained.

This isn't M Night Shamalongadingdong, this is true storytelling.

Fantastic episode. I can't say enough good things about it.

I wanted to like it, but I couldn't. I think Matt can be pretty good, but he is being done a great disservice being forced to perform stories with such awful writing and direction.

Moffat has a terrible problem with constantly having the characters tell us how awesome or scary or smart or brave or whatever they're supposed to be, but seldom, if ever actually showing them behaving that way. The audience is also not trusted to get the emotion of a scene from the acting -- instead we're bombarded with the music to tell us exactly what we're supposed to feel.

That opening sequence has me hoping for a proper story with Matt and the Cybermen on a space station Troughton style.

I can't imagine watching a show I loathe. Why do some of you guys even bother anymore? :dunno

:goodpost:

I don't see many shows that can hold a secret for almost 4 years without anyone really guessing it correctly, the melody thing was going to get guessed out way before its reveal because that's the nature of TV and the Internet these days. While I knew it sort of before hand I was more invested in the reactions of Amy/Rory/Doctor since they were the ones in the dark the whole time.

The pacing was great, the Doctor didn't show up for 20 minutes and i didn't check the clock once to see where he was (except to make taht point :lol ) For 45 minutes to tell an 'Epic' style finale story its really hard to dawdle, Moffat had to pay off his viewers with a worthy reveal and set up enough investment to keep people coming back while telling a story that suited the occasion and I think he did fantastic. I love this darker story where the 'lonely god' is getting his ass handed to him, RTD made him something bigger than he should be and I never believed he could be in peril which in a way he is now. While we know the Doctor cant really die on the show its good to see him lose almost everything without it being some cheesy love story that forces him to mope for 3 seasons.

Looks like the anime short got noticed by some important people,

Parts 5 & 6 of "The Reign of Terror" are the first missing episodes BF will be bringing back to life but it seems like that may be just the beginning which is awesome.....my DVD collection needs more Trout!

This week I've got the following DVD's,

"The Aztecs" = 8/10
Babs gets to be a goddess, Chesterton does some judo, Susan gets through a story without screaming much and the Doctor uses his charms to manipulate a woman into assisting him.

The sinister dude in the facepaint also bears a resemblance to Charlie Sheen :lol

"Spearhead from Space" = 8/10
One of the best debut stories for any Doctor. The scene of the Autons crashing through the shop window was so good RTD stole it for his first episode in 2005.

"The Two Doctors" = 5/10
The Trout returns with Jamie in an average story with the worst looking Sontarans ever.

I just watched this on Netflix this weekend. Good story, I agree with your score. And the facepaint dude was awesome! And it was so funny to see that The Doctor was accidentally getting engaged/married back in the Hartnell days too! :rotfl

Good to hear the anime thing is going to have a happy ending. I can't wait to see what fruit comes from that! :rock
