The stories in the last two episodes reminded me of poor imitations of stories that Star Trek:TNG and DS9 (and when I think about it Farscape) did years ago and much better. Thomas Riker? The Founders? Green Shirt Crichton vs. Black Shirt Crichton? All a million times more interesting to me than the last two [tedious to the extreme] hours have been.

And really, that tediousness is my main overarching issue with the Moffat era: that is just so bloody boring. If Doctor Who of all things makes you feel like you are about to lapse into a coma from the total unutterable boredom of it all, then you know something has gone completely wrong at the top.

:exactly::lecture:goodpost:

This is exactly my problem with the Moffat era. He can write a story, but he sucks at telling it.

The long winded and complicated plotlines, the complete lack of art direction compared to the RTD era, lame and cheap effects, bad editing, how everything seems to have turned cold and grey in the past 2 years. It all contributes to this very blah feeling.

It really points out the importance of a good art director and producer. Sure some of the RTD era episodes featured embarassingly bad writing, but none of them ever bored me. Even when the dialouge and plot got face palmingly stupid, it was still shot well enough to be somewhat entertaining. Even when Moffat's writing is at its best now, it is still a chore to pay attention.

As much as I disliked the RTD era as a whole I think he produced some fun episodes in the first 2 series and the sort of apathy that most of the Moffat era inspires only really kicked in during series 3.

Moffat may have made the Doctor a more likeable person again but his companions are such non entities and the non linear storytelling style will only put off the younger viewers as they won't be able to follow it or older viewers like myself will simply lose intrest because they prefer standalone stories.

I agree with the companion characters since i cant stand Amy or Rory because neither have had much character growth outside her scowling and getting _____y and him being a 'lovable' wuss. I prefer Moffat's look and style over RTD's because the show has lost that warm child friendly 'bubblegum' look and has reverted back to a family show that is able to add some scares. I like the attempt with the new arcs to incorporate them over a long period and multi-season but its all getting a bit much with the amount of loose ends that need tying, its a welcome change from RTD's 'few posters or a mention until the big reveal' thing that he did every season but it needs to be toned down possibly even put to rest for a series, just because an episode is standalone doesn't mean it cant thrill or leave a decent cliff hanger as a two-parter.

Im suprised im the only one that hates the new look of the show. Its so bland, grey, and uncinematic. The lack of visual appeal really makes it hard to keep my attention.

I found this on live journal in on eof the Who com'c. I find it both frigging amazing and hilarious at the same time. :lol

1970's Who Anime style.

Really impressive stuff... made me wish someone would animate the missing episodes using the existing soundtracks (maybe not anime style though :lol)

Well apparently they are going to do just that, but sadly I can't remember which ones the article was talking about. :lol

They already did Invasion of the Cybermen.. I really enjoyed it. If they do more like that, I will be one happy Whovian. :love

Anime Who short >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nu-Who.

The people responsible for that have a perfect idea of how the major baddies should be portrayed.......as a legit threat and the Daleks in particular never looked more threatening and merciless.

What really stood out was the fact that innocent people actually died and stayed dead....no magic resets at the end to make everything nice and happy for the kiddies.

The only dodgy bit that was the chick using her martial arts skills to take out a Dalek but that's fitting for the anime style so it wasn't as out of place as something like that BS in series 5 where River had a Dalek begging for mercy.

BBC should fire Moffat and his band of hacks and put the people who made this in charge of the TV show as if that anime is what they can do on a modest budget, imagine what they'd do with the BBC's resources.

Sueworld,
More "lost" stories are being brought to life via animation?

In a word = YAY!

I hope they use the same style as the missing parts of "The Invasion" as that was awesome.

I just got a message from WilliamShatnersToupee with some info on the missing episodes that are being brought to life,

It will be parts 4 & 5 of "The Reign of Terror" from the Hartnell years.

The animation is being done by Big Finish and according to the info will be a mixture of 80's anime and high technology........which kind of sucks because I would have liked to see Cosgrove Hall retained to maintain some consistency in the style of the animation but the mocked up image looks good.

This will leave "The 10th Planet" & "The Ice Warriors" as the remaining stories with most of the parts still in existence so hopefully they'll be next on the list.

So no one watched the latest episode except me?

Two minutes of Cybermen is not enough, especially when they're the original Mondasian ones...

BBCA is a week behind now so someone please spoil me about how the Mondas Cybermen come back and what they look like.

Absolutely LOVED A Good Man Goes to War. I had pretty much guessed the reveal of who River Song was weeks ago but how they revealed it and how much emotion was tied into it really got to me. I was pretty much on the edge of my seat the whole time for this episode as you just didn't know what was going to happen and the break neck pace of it never allowed you to catch your breath. Just a great roller coaster ride and perfect cliffhanger...

So now, LET'S KILL HITLER!

I loved it too. It's good to see that Moffat is moving towards eliminating RTD's Time Lord/Demi-God status the Doctor has had since the revival. I also had guessed River Song's identity a few weeks back.

Also love the next episode title... Did anyone else think of Inglorious Bastards?

I don't love that we have to wait till Fall. :monkey2

I got home from a short break yesterday and had the following DVD's waiting for me,

"The Dominators" ( It's sad to think there's only 1 more complete story with the Trout left in the archives to be released on DVD :( )

"Spearhead from Space:Special Edition" & "Terror of the Autons" ( The "Mannequin Mania" box set )

"The Curse of Fenric" ( I now have all the good 7th Doctor stories )

The new extras on "Spearhead from Space" includes some archive interview footage of Jon Pertwee and there's also some on the extras of "Terror of the Autons" which is awesome :)

I've also ordered "The Aztecs" as it's time I explored a bit more of the Hartnell years.
