I agree with all you said (though I'm willing to cut the Doctor some slack, since they're always out of sorts for an episode or two after regeneration)... Less focus on trying to include every single race and preference known to man/woman/it, and more focus on using the cast they have to tell stories worthy of the name Doctor Who. I think they have a great opportunity to create an all-new race of villains, all-new stories, all new allies, with all new timey-whimey twists and turns.

One comment I noticed in the latest one, the Doctor said something like she was a "sister" once (If I remember correctly)... I thought we pretty much knew all of the Doctor's incarnations up till now (but in all fairness, I think of the War Doctor, and that was kind of sprung on us). It sounds like the Doctor had a previous female incarnation that to the best of my knowledge viewers aren't aware of?

Not content with changing the Doctors gender....they had to go and crap all over 50 plus years of mythology and lore...which was hinted at in the first episode when she clads herself out in her new "Mork from Ork" attire. "It be long time since i wore women's clothes"...or something along those lines..

Wow!...look everybody the Doctor was female long before she/he/it became male!...Yea that whole male Timelord cycle thing was really just a bad blip.....

That would be great, but not gonna happen. They could have proven us naysayers wrong and maybe even win a lot of us over, instead our negative assumptions were confirmed so far.

Psychological manipulation. Intended to manipulate the audience into accepting the gender change as something completely normal, slowly & subtly cementing in their consciousness that 'it's always been this way'. Unfortunately, as we can see, it works quite well on a lot of humans, not just in this case...

It's also playing with viewer's emotions, sense of loyalty to a beloved character.

'See, it has already happened before, if you don't accept this new incarnation now it means you don't love / have never really loved this character / any of his incarnations.'

That last episode was enough for me...this is not just bad Dr who but some of the worst tv i've ever watched...exruciatingly awful! And the spin and hype it's getting just baffles me. The writing is full of cringey pc tripe aimed at anyone with an IQ below 20....and again the cast have zero chemistry with Ms Whittaker looking miscast and lost in the role...
Leaving aside the whole gender fluid/change thingy nonsense(which i'm still completely against as it didn't need to happen) there were far more suitable actresses that could have been considered...Michaela Cole and Phoede Waller-Bridge are both wonderfully strange quirky actresses that might have changed my mind on this alternate universe version...but alas..no.

My thoughts exactly. Also agree that if it had to happen, at least could have chosen a better actress, one that has that certain special something, huge captivating charisma needed for a character like this.

:exactly: This! Surely there are better actresses out there who could have done the role justice if they were that intent on changing to a women. She has no presence and lacks all the gravitas and charisma that is associated with the Doctor imo. Some of those facial expressions she makes...I just cannot take her seriously as the Doctor at all, yet there seems to be a lot of 'best Doctor ever' being bandied about all over the internet - I just don't get the hype.

Seems like a case of Chibnall sticking to who he knows rather than taking a chance on someone he's never worked with.

That's just weird. Up till now they were doing a great job of sticking to the established "rules". Another reason not to bother with this.

Absolutely! The Doctor is a very special part and needs someone who's not only a good actor but has that larger than life personality that has you glued to the screen.

In complete agreement with you...she's so miscast it's laughable. Chibnall didn't even think outside the box....my understanding is that the other Broadchurch actress Olivia colman was offered the role but turned it down...so he didn't look much further...The cad!

The tinkering all started under Moffat and that awful "The Name Of The Doctor" episode where we had the equally awful Clara character splintered throughout the Doctors previous timelines and saving him.....Jeez! i hate that episode!
And i'm sure there's lots more feminising and crapping all over it's established mythology to come...

The BBC is now the Doctors greatest enemy....Exterminate!Eradicate!Destroy!!!!

Got to agree, this show sucks. Bad idea changing the Dr to a woman from the get-go. Kind of glad it doesn't work -- otherwise nothing is safe.

I really hope Dr. Who takes some... Time off.

In the meantime, I just heard they're going to do "Snow White" as a man who befriends 7 females dwarves. No, it's not ****.

^ Agreed. It's not good TV at all. Hate to say it but yes, I think it could do with a break too, 5 episodes in and it still isn't getting any better :( That last episode was awful, didn't hold my interest at all.

Mind you I was pleased (albeit temporarily) when that alien creature thing ate the sonic screwdriver, at least it stopped her waving it about like a magic wand for a bit! :lol

Well that went south fast, I liked the episode in 50's Alabama, they nicely worked Rosa Parks into the story but I guess people thought it was too forced and political. Since then it's been bland and boring, pushing the woman doctor angle wore out after the first few episodes, just let her get on with it and let the story flow.

I wonder if it'll be a long while before the Cybermen or the Daleks show up again?

^ I am finding the episodes are just not holding my interest at all and seeing how the viewing figures are going down may not be alone. The companions are alright (I like Graham - best character in the show) but she is just an awful choice for the Doctor, no presence at all (and don't get me started on the silly over-use of the sonic screwdriver every 5 seconds!).

Show definitely needs livening up, it's becoming boring (IMO), too much drama, PC nonsense and not enough Sci-Fi. Bring back the Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels etc - just anything that would be a decent opponent - the villains have been utter rubbish this series. The Master would run absolute rings around this Doctor - which makes me wonder if they are deliberately using weak enemies to disguise the fact that she is a weak doctor. :huh

Keeping watching in the hope that it'll improve, but I'm not counting on it anytime soon. Glad too see some folks are enjoying it, but it just isn't doing anything for me at all atm. :(

I agree. The stories have been very lukewarm and vanilla. Where did the fun go?

The music has been great though.

Thb as much as I don't want a female Doctor and don't think JW is suited to the role, but I think the main problem is Chibnall. Even if the Doctor was male, these stories would still suck, no actor in the world could somehow turn this garbage into gold.

When it started to run out of gas during the Capaldi era - tellingly taking a year off - I thought that might be the signal to retire the show for a while. No such luck.

The gimmickry of a female Doctor has given it an artificial boost, but I wouldn't expect it to last more than another season or two. Just sad it won't go out on a high note.

The BBC have a ready made replacement all set to step in and save the show...but I feel they'll let the show take its final breath before attempting to revive it.

Goodbye Jodie Whitaker, welcome back Paul McGann

If only, that would be great. Rumour has it she's sticking around for the usual three seasons :monkey4...I don't know if I'll be able to stay interested or keep watching for that long. :panic:

What Liz10 posted above is true - no actor could make this type of writing and material look good -it's just awful. :(

Seeing as we are getting a New Year's Day special rather that a Christmas one as they say they are 'out of Christmas ideas', I wish they'd keep in with the 'New' theme - as in New Year, New Doctor (and new showrunner) instead! :lol

Hopefully this abomination that the BBC are trying to pass off as "Doctor who" goes the same way as Class and gets the axe....

Tennant,Smith or Capaldi could always come back and help steady the ship....they could even dress up in drag just to appease those who still want a alternate universe Time lord/lady version:)
