If ANYBODY says that Billie Piper is intelligent looking, then they are stupid. That's why I liked Martha more, Martha actually looks like she can add 2 + 2. I will admit that Tennant does have a lot more...."energy" than Eccleston, but that's just part of his charm and his character. He enjoys humans and enjoys doing what he does.

It's just so embarassing! I'm like Dad if you fancy her then just admit it don't try and hide it behind the unbelievably see through veil of 'she's intelligent looking'!!!! That's like saying a non-fat, non-flavour, bio yougurt that's been in the fridge for 12 years is intelligent looking. Sure the yogurt's interesting looking but ultimately very smelly.

Didn't mind Eccleston as much as Tenant but I'd just like to see an episode where he's put out of his misery by a giant elephant that is dropped from a great height on top of him. And judging from the plots of this latest season I don't think I'm reaching for the stars.

So bring on the elephant! :elefant

Off Subject: But is that Krista Allen in your avatar?

Anyway, there are some episodes where Tennant loses his eccentricity (Girl in the Fireplace, Family of Blood) and I will admit that those types of episodes are more character driven (as opposed to plot driven) and are some of my favorites.

Yeah it's Krista - I saw her playing Maitreya in the x-files episode 'first person shooter'.

She spends the whole episode wondering around in a leather catsuit shooting everyone - and as a crazy chic myself I thought who wouldn't wanna do that? I mean that's a woman you can look up to! :lol

Back on subject:

It's nothing personal with Tenant, I've seen him in interviews and he's a down to earth, funny guy but the second he picks up his screwdriver he becomes that date your parents never wished you'd brought back for dinner because he's a jittery maniac on speed! :banana

Granted Family of Blood was one of the better episodes and yes it is probably the plots and the lame baddies that pi** me off more but after some episodes I just want to get the all the makers of the show together in a room and say 'Don't you think you're flogging a dead horse?' :horse

Especially regarding the badies!

I mean maybe it's me being nostalgic but I remember when I used to watch Tom Baker as the doctor and everything was so original (e.g. Davros - now that's a baddy!) now it's like 'let's bring back the daleks, kill them off again and then bring them back again!'.

Or if you watched last week then am I the only one who thinks that a Sontaran looks like a mini Juggernaut?

Get a really bad baddy! :emperor

Late to the game here, but I like any episode written by the guy that wrote "Girl in the Fireplace" and "Blink" two of the best episodes of television, much less Sci-Fi, much less The Doctor, that I have ever seen. The show has peaked somewhat to me.
I openly prefer Eccleston to any other Doctor, but Tennant has done a great job.
Might be fun to rank all the doctors somewhere...but Ecc's my fave. Wish he'd done more.
That's my two cents.

I only found out recently that Madame Pompadour (the girl in the fireplace) was played by Tennant's real life girlfriend - perhaps why the chemistry was good in that ep.

My opinion of anything written by Steven Moffat is mixed. His series 1 episodes were good but the rest are very overrated, especially Blink which was more like an episode of a series called "Doctor Where?".
I'd rank the various Doctors like this,
1.Tom Baker
2.Jon Pertwee

The rest!
I also would have loved to see more from Christopher Eccleston as at times he was awesome. Unlike David Tennant he seemed to have a nice balance between being serious and manic and didn't overdo it with the "human" cliches and mannerisms either.

I got into Doctor Who with the Nu-Who relaunch. Since then I've gone back to watch the classic episodes, and I must say, a good percentage of the classic episodes are garbage. Every story (even the few good ones) are so formulaic, it's an insult to the viewer's intelligence.

Nu-Who is great drama, thought provoking, and funny. Every episode is the treat. If I ever saw Doctor who prior to the relaunch, I probably would not have even given Nu-Who a chance. As it stand now, it's my favorite show on TV.

I just watched the very first episode of Doctor Who (An Unearthly Child) and I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it (hence the change in my avatar). So much so that I have put holds at my local library for every William Hartnell episode I can get my hands on. I also rewatched my Key To Time DVDs and was again surprised at how enjoyable I found them. Even the FX (though cheap) have a certain charm.

^ I should ammend what I said above. I have enjoyed every Hartnell and Troughton episode I've seen. Lot's of good stuff there.

I think having episodes where the title character of the series barely shows up or spends most of a 2-part story pretending to be a teacher is just as insulting to the audiences intelligence.
The humor in Nu-Who is childish at best and downright embarrassing to watch at it's worst and the only real thoughts I have watching most of it are "why am I wasting time with this crap?" or "which twat put RTD in charge"?
I agree the Classic era had it's share of stinkers but I think it's natural for people that saw the new series first to look down on that era because it doesn't have the slick presentation of Nu-Who. Modern audiences have been force fed so many films and TV shows that are all CGI wizardry and little else that anything that doesn't look as "cool" instantly gets dismissed even if in some cases the stories and characters are superior.

I think the "Doctor Where?" episodes are plain stupid. The writers can spout all the BS dramatic reasons for the lack of the Doctor in those episodes they like but to me it just seems like they can't write anything intresting for the main character to do,in which case they shouldn't even be writing for the show in the first place.
The one thing I did like about Blink was the Weeping Angels and I'd like to see them return in a more Doctor oriented story.

So what do you all make of Catherine Tate?

I'm undecided - on the one hand I'm glad we haven't got a typical "hottie" (e.g. Piper who has the acting capabilites of an upside down goldfish) but on the other hand I can't help feeling that sometimes I'm watching a bizarre episode of The Catherine Tate Show!

:huh

I guess it helps not having any pre DW knowledge of CTate. To me, I thought she was annoying in Runaway Bride. I have softened a bit to her but she still bugs me... I can't quite put my finger on why... I think her acting is good. The banter between she and DT is natural.

:dunno
