For those of us with this leaning issue in our maquettes my concern is that the resin was not mixed properly so that over time the entire statue will sag (not just leaning). I originally thought the metal support was bending under the weight but if that were the case the right foot would have lifted off the base. So to me it seems the resin casting itself is faulty and in a few more year the alien will eventually be kissing the base.

I recently filled out a return request to SideShow to bring this issue to their attention. Of course I am not looking to get a refund but I was hoping they could answer some questions. Here is what I sent:

I am not wanting to return or request a refund for this product. This is my favorite statue from SideShow and I want to ensure it remains in good condition moving forward.

In this image you can see that the left knee which was once about an inch off the ground is now directly resting on the ground. The left arm has also shifted slightly. I originally thought the metal rod attaching the maquette to the base was bending under the weight of the figure but if that were the case the right foot would be lifting. This maquette has always been in my basement which is cool year round so I know it is not heat stress related. There also does not appear to be any paint cracks where the joints are which one would expect with this issue.

There have been MANY people on StatueForum and other collectibles forums with similar issues with this maquette so my hope is that SideShow knows what is happening with these statues and can recommend steps to ensure the sagging stops.

Some questions I have are:
1. Does Sideshow know what is causing these statues to 'sag'?
2. If the issue is related to soft or improperly mixed resin, is there enough armor or steel supports in the hips, tail, arms and torso that will prevent further sagging?
3. What recommendations do you have to help me preserve this statue and to minimize future sag if you feel there still may be some issues?
4. If further sag is not preventable, would SS consider having a few of these statues remade and resold to customers that have this issue at the same original cost? In other words I would be more than happy to repay $899 for a replacement and destroy my original.

Thank you for your time and for looking into this issue. I look forward to hearing back from you. Also it is my sincere hope that SideShow will consider making a new 1/3 Dog Alien maquette sometime soon.

I think if more people bring this issue up to SideShow they may do something about it, if nothing else hopefully they will make a new 1/3 Dog Alien maquette.

So I got some replies back from SideShow. It seems no one there knows how the Alien 3 Maquette was made like everyone that worked on it was fired or something and the production company burned all it's records. I have no idea if there is any armature supporting the heavy torso so unless I hang this thing from the ceiling, he could be kissing the ground in a few more years.

I think if he droops any more I will probably end up taking him apart and casting him so I can make a proper build and perhaps some variants. :/
