Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics
Didn't know about that one. I'll add that to my list of things to get in the future. Thanks Rob.
Thanks Fiend, well summarised. It'll be week after next for me. If you see me posting about it it'll hopefully mean I was able to sneak them in and was not murdered.
Hot toys Ezio body!

Ok, I got this guy yesterday and Im quite happy. I don't think I can call it a "replacement" for the MMS117 because in my opinion HT went back a step in some departments and forward in others. But the places they went forward in are the ones that count the most. Being a person that has the MMS117 and the Coomodel stuff it's very hard to review this figures completely on it's own merits. Having said that here are my thoughts on the DX10 with some comparisons on the MMS version.
Clothes
This area is completely about preference. First off I like the jacket much more than I thought I would. It's thicker and better made than I originally thought by looking at pics. The pants for me seem to have more of a shiny look. The boots are the same as the MMS but without weathering. Now, if you like the idea of real leather and like the cut of the new jacket and not having to use a paperclip to make it look normal than these are for you. If you don't care about the fact that the leather is real or not and like the more weathered and worn look than you may want to stick with the MMS. This is what I did. Now, Im not taking anything away form the new stuff because they are nice and well made. Like I said, preference.
Accessories
In this department I think HT took a step back. Again, I owned the original stuff so that's what Im going on. And these are just minor nitpicks, nothing to get hung up on. Both the shotty and the gun are from the same mold as the old ones but something is different. On the handgun for instance the black and silver on the barrel both look more plastic-y than the original. It has a shiny finish more so than the originals. Same goes for the handle, looks more plastic. This is the case more so with the handgun that with the shotty. My MMS version had weathering on the the shotty and a more "faded" look on the "wood". One thing that did surprise me is the gatling and thumper. The Coomodel beats HT out by a margin imo. The gatling had to be assembled and had moving part with a metal-like finish in areas so it really sold it as looking and feeling for authentic. The HT is solid molded plactic and it shows. The thumper is the same, with the Coomodel having a better "wood" handle finish. I wish I would have kept my Coomodel stuff. The only thing I like more is the bandolier. I love it. It's more accurate and the buckle and adjuster in the back are metal. Much better than the coomodel one which I always thought looked cheap. Now, this is coming from someone who had the Coomodel stuff so if you didn't you're not going to have any issues with this set. They are nice and well made and you will be satisfied. The Cyberdyne chip/scalp set is fantastic. I love the little pliers. They look and feel as well as work like a real 1/1 pair. Same goes for the port cover etc. Very cool touches. The gloves are all great with minor weathering. The ammo bag is cool too. I like it more than the other one I had ( I think it was coomodel).
Now the sunglasses. There is no doubt these blow the MMS version away as far as how they look. I love them. But again something isn't right. The arms are made from a much thinner and flimsier plastic than the MMS version. With my MMS version they sort 'snap" on the head and stay there. I could have popped the head off, tossed it in the air , caught it and the sunglasses wouldn't have went anywhere. With the DX ones if just lean the figure over they fall off. Now, this could be just a variation in mine idk.
Sculpt and body
Obviously this where this set shines. The likeness is much better with this set and a bit more age appropriate if a bit young. BUT the sculpt does have a "soft" look to it more so in some lighting areas rather than in others. The MMS version seemed to have more detail (?) as far as pores go etc. But this one is the one to get. I love it.
The body of course has a better range of articulation although I don't know how much good it does it as the leathers restrict motion a bit. But I gotta give credit where credit is due.
The stand Sucks.
Packaging I love it. Its understated and it works. I really like the texture on the front flap cover. Although the I gotta admit the quote they decided to use is a bit curious. The "I know now why you cry..." quote just doesn't work here. They should have just went with a simple " Trust me". That would have been perfect. But whatever no biggie.
All in all I think it's a nice release and I dig it. But I gotta be honest, I ask myself would I have just been better off just buying the head and keeping all the MMS and coomodel stuff. If you feel the way I feel about the clothes and accessories this is what you'll ask yourself. Now if you don't own a Terminator and never had any of the older stuff you have nothing to compare it to and will be thrilled. Go for it! Or if you just have the money and don't mind having multiples than go for it. I don't regret getting it and the longer I have it the more I like it. Definitely an awesome set.
Im quite curious to see what a-dev thinks of this set as he has multiples of all the older stuff.
