Yes, but these days gimmicks sell. I just hope Microsoft is developing NATAL into more than just a gimmick.

If it doesn't come standard with the system when it lauches, there isn't much hope for it to take off. The history of add-ons is pretty brutal.

I'm surprised Mass Effect 2 didn't make an appearance. I guess it's being held up EA's press conference.

If Microsoft does enough of a marketing push and perhaps even try to rebrand the Xbox 360 into an "Xbox Natal" sort of sku, I think it could work.

This technology isn't like Wii's motion sensing or the old Sony Eye Toy. What Microsoft is proposing, ostensibly, is different. But who knows what will happen.

What is Sony and Nintendo going to do to compete with those announcements? The twitter and facebook ideas are darn cool and I'm not even signed up for either of those services... yet.

This seems pretty interesting though.

It's obviously not even close to ready, they've only got a few actual demonstrations and it's (of course) a little bit more buggy than it looked in the pitch video.

I just want games for my 360.
I can't watch movies with all that noise

PS3 has a browser
I can already use Facebook and twitter on it

Yeah, but you are from Europe. You guys don't have all the fun stuff on Xbox360 like we do over here. Trust me, the Xbox is a great choice when you have all of the US features.

I've never really been into the motion control games. My favorite one so far has been Metroid Prime 3. I liked having a controller in my hand too for that kind of FPS game with motion.

If Nintendo shows a new Mario game and a new Zelda game that fully uses Wii Motion plus and a service for downloading game boy and advance games on DSi they'll be allright. They are leading in sales and they have the cheapest and more profitable machine and these additions can give them enough steam to remain profitable.(And as good as NATAL shows, I prefer holding the wiimote and swinging the Master Sword)

NATAL is the future but let's hope it works (EYEtoy was pretty revolutionary too in its time but it never offered something special)

i'll buy just for the dashboard voice & facial recognition and to control dashboard likr minority report

By the way they were making it sound it looks like NATAL is supposed to be the equivalent of launching the next Xbox so I think that if it does well we won't see another Xbox for at least another 5 years.

Fine by me. I've only had mine about 5 months.

In all honesty the NATAL stuff will make it feel like a brand new XBOX.

NATAL is the future

I certainly hope not. I like being put in the shoes of a character and doing things that only buttons could pull off - ie: I would never be able to pull off some of the moves solid snake does, or any larger than life character by moving my body. And if I can, it's a short cut gimmick that I'd rather just do with my thumbs.

Facial and voice recognition though would be awesome in Bethesda Games where emotional choices come into play though.

If NATAL can spawn a new breed of games (beyond casual party games) that can really take advantage of this stuff - and I don't see it fitting well into traditional hard core games - then it will have a future in video games.

I completely agree. I thought the announcement was going to be a console announcement, but this pretty much launches new technology with a huge install base already established. The trick will be getting that base to go out and buy NATAL.

But what a stupid name, I keep thinking this guy when I say it

it has be said that developers reliance on the unreal engine has stopped us from finding this generations consoles true potential
