Good point, but I don't think ANY of the previous dios have had such a broad, universal appeal as this one. Yes, many people have liked the others very much, but not everyone. I haven't heard a single negative about this piece yet, other than the couple of people who couldn't distinguish between the eyes and the nostrils (which is only because of lighting and angles in the pics, I have no doubt).

This dio is a home run on every conceivable level, and a must-own for all Tolkien fans. I predict that the ES will be at least double that of its predecessors.

I'm guessing ES of 1500

This is F'ING GREAT!! :eek

Even though the price is pretty high, it's well worth it. Like others, I'm seriously doubting where to score this beauty. Considering Sideshow appears to have changed styrofoam suppliers since they started with the LSB's (which have VERY crappy qualilty styrofoam!), and this piece looks really fragile... picking it up at a local dealer would be too much of an issue when it turns out broken or whatever.

That said, I'm definitily getting this piece of art, whether it'll be through SS or through a local dealer. This rocks! :rock

Best Dio ever... think ES will be 1500-2000
1000 would be great... at this price-range
more than enough!

With this base and style it quite feels like
good old SSW-Times are back

Just a awesome diorama, a lot of movement and action, but a pass for me. :monkey3

I agree, it's not a must have but very awesome!!!... plus that thing is pretty big. ...and with Indy,Conan,GIJoe all coming I need to save some cash!

I can't wait to see it displayed in everyones collection!

Ordered mine. I felt the price is fair - not high or low - butabout right considering what you are getting for your money.

I'd bet ya a dollar 2 a donut that the ES is no more than 1k. Sure, its a damn fine piece and all but I don't think they'll let this one get any more than 1k.

Josh you might be right and if you are then anyone sitting on the fence about this one might want to move soon as I don't see this one hanging around for long even on credit card declines etc

The sculpt is great, the colors choices are great. There's only one snag . . .I wish they didn't put a gloss or sheen to the paint . . .I don't want this looking like a typical statue from the likes of Franklin Mint. If they can maintain the matte finish or whatever powder finish they used on the Weta LOTR, then this would be nothing short of a slam dunk.

My thoughts as well. I love the fact the FB is actually the right color this time around and I don't mind the glossy finish on the FB as it's scales are iredescent or 'oily" looking so the glossy finish is quite appropriate, but I don't think it's appropriate on the eagle. As soon as I showed a picture to my wife her first words were "I love the FB, but the eagle looks like a Franklin mint statue...it's way too shiny and cheapens the overall look of the piece". Perhaps it is just the lighting and/or the result of the camera flash, but it does look to have a shiny appearance whereas I would much prefer a matte finish.

It's a double-edged sword situation. SS bases their ES's on pre-orders so the best way to guarantee a high ES is if everyone orders one, whether they intend on going through with their purchase or not. On the other hand, with SS you never know what they're going to do so if you don't order one you could potentially miss out if they throw us a curveball by deciding on a really low ES

I agree that the Eagle does look "porcelain-like."

Does anyone know if this is specifically Gwahir, or just a generic eagle? Sideshow doesn't say.

Got mine ordered - through one of our board dealers. I don't worry about breakage when ordered through one of the dealers who frequent our boards - every time I've received a broken piece from one of them, it's been replaced immediately, no problems.

This is just an incredible piece. I'll figure out where to put it when it arrives...can't wait to add it to the collection.

This thing is amazing!!! Too bad I can't afford it, already collect too many lines. :( :monkey2

It is truly an amazing statue . . . I really love it . . but I work for the school board . . .

There is just no way I can afford everything they are putting out . . . :monkey2

Some additional thoughts on the piece, after studying it over.

1. As previously mentioned, I LOVE that the base is similar to the SS/Weta style. It will fit in perfectly with my other SS/W pieces.

2. IF the ES is 750, this may very well become the GRAIL of this line.

3. I believe the parts breakdown will be as follows:
a) Base.
b) Rocky outcrop/Fellbeast torso and Eagle as one piece.
c) Fellbeast left wing and right wing will both be separate pieces.

I can already see that a huge box will be needed, in order to minimize breakage.
