Seriously, I know there have been many posts in here about how crappy Ebay has become, but today I have seen an all time low in my experiences. I have had the same account since Ebay started and now have 200+ positive feedback. This past weekend I listed one of my Hot Toys Predators for sale...I tried to make the description as clear as possible of what my terms of the sale were in regards to the item, what's included, and the shipping. Well, Ebay asks for the size and weight of the box so they can put a shipping calculation in the item description for the buyers. I circumvented this by putting clear as day for bidders to message me Actual Shipping cost since I require insurance on the full transaction price as well as signature confirmation.

I guess none of this matters because the winning bidder decided that he doesn't care and bid anyways. Afterwards, I asked if he read the description and was fine with the terms. He replied that he was fine with it, but felt the UPS quote was expensive and would like me to get an actual price from UPS, and I did. Turns out the price on Ebay is actually cheaper than the price UPS gave me. I told the buyer this and said not to worry about the difference and that he needs only to pay me what Ebay quoted him for despite a $15 difference I'll have to cover.
Apparently he's not happy with that price either and stands that he doesn't believe me that it costs that much to ship something from the East Coast to the West Coast and that he doesn't need it to be fully insured. At this point my patience is starting to get strained and told him to re-read the item description and that the shipping insurance is NOT optional. He replied by saying "This is absurd, in my 10 years of buying and selling on Ebay I have never seen shipping prices that high, nor will I pay them."

So really I can only imagine that the buyer will post negative feedback stating that I'm overcharging for shipping costs despite this is the price that Ebay has listed. What are my options?? What happened to the "bidding is a contractual agreement" portion of the buyer/seller agreement???? Is it really this bad that after bidding on an auction that the buyer can back out at any time because they don't like the price that THEY bid for??? Can I as a seller do anything about this??

Not much you cna do. If he leaves a neg, leave a remark that he didnt want to pay the posted shipping costs that he agreed to when he bid.

Sigh...I was afraid of that. I typically only use ebay for buying, but every once in a while I sell a couple things with hopes that I won't get screwed, but now its unacceptable. I remember the days when the seller had a little more power than this. Seems Ebay just leaves the seller bent over a table to take it however it comes.

honestly dude, negative feedbacks dont mean jack ____ anymore on ebay. a few years ago they did, but not since they implemented the new feedback system. it will drop off in 12 months but even before that happens, people don't associate a negative with anything to be concerned about. especially if your response to it is reasonable and composed.

the best thing you can do is just give him 4 days and file a non paying bidder claim. then if he doesnt pay the whole transaction is canceled and he will get a strike on his account. or the safer thing is to just let the bastard off the hook and ask if he would like to mutually withdraw and cancel the transaction peacefully. I think either one of these will mean that he cant leave feedback from you since the transaction is voided.

If he backs out of it, you can still file a non-paying bidder claim, right? Or am I missing something?

Isn't that worth one negative feedback?

I dont think a neg can be left if a non paying claim is made.

But agree with Nash. Mutual end the deal.

Burn the ____ers house down. Sounds like a douche

1 neg wont make any difference really to your 200+ positive. You could always try and give him the option to find a cheaper service that is to both yours and his satisfication.

One time when I was selling something, I got a online quote from parcel force based on size and weight. Also put to contact me regarding postage etc because I needed to put in a postcode also. When whoever it was contacted me with their post code, I gave them a quote. They felt it was too expensive, so I gave them the weight and dimensions and if they could find a cheaper service then I would have no problem using them as long as they were credible. In the end either they couldn't find a cheaper service or they just couldn't be bothered to do the leg work themselves.

But your bloke should have read the item description and what not before going through with it. And now he just pissing and moaning like a 5 yr old with a skinned knee. Hope it works out for you. You seem to be more than reasonable saying you'll pay the extra $15 out of your pocket. Some just mess each other about on ebay, gets teedious.

I'll wait until the transaction is completed before posting a name, but yes the guy is becoming a douche. I'm gonna have to leave it with my GF to ship because I have to leave for Savannah tomorrow and won't be home for a week.

What an Idiot, ive dealt with such cheap Kids before and it is very exhausting,a kid once filled a claim with paypal for not recieving his figure after just 6 days, and a shipment from Norway to Usa takes about 6-10 days which i clearly stated,he didn`t email me,nor answered my emails explaining why he hasn`t gotten his yet.

best advice is allready mentioned in above posts, hope you sort things out.

This is why I don't ship outside of the US anymore. Though people in the US can be just as bad, the delivery confirmation will usually cancel out the claim if it happens. For some reason, international delivery confirmation doesn't work the same way (unless something has changed recently).

It sucks because when I post an auction (which isn't often) I always have to deal with a ton of "Can you ship this to my country?" questions even though the auction specifically says "no". I even have people outside the US bid even though the auction specifically says "Ships to US only". :banghead

You can block international bidders when you set up the listing. You can't trust stupid buyers to be able to read what you wrote.

If he leaves a negative, challenge it with eBay. And what Evil said.

Is there anyplace on the net where you can sell things other than on eBay? And no Craig's List is out.

You know I have over 500 positive feedbacks and it becomes a bit of an obsession in trying to maintain that.

Some buyers realise this and will do their best to get what they can out of you. At the end of the day, you've gone above and beyond what a normal store would do. If you get a neg, then you get a neg. It really does seem as though the guy is being rather difficult with you.

It's not the end of the world to get negative feedback. Try not to be mean when replying to his comments on the feedback forum and people will see you're a decent person.

Sorry this is happening to you.

D

Yeah I'll have to back this up, Ebay buyers are getting worse and worse as they stop realizing that Ebay is an auction house and you have to deal with individual sellers, not Walmart or Amazon.

I just sold one of those Pandora's box collectibles from the God of War 3 Ultimate set. Pretty decent sized box, right? It's like half the size of a Bowen statue box. I specifically stated $10 within Canada/the US. Some guy from Australia buys it and well before he pays, I email him to say I'll get you a shipping quote for Australia.

Instead of replying, he pays the initial price about an hour later. Then he immediately files a Paypal "item not received" complaint saying he wants me to ship the item immediately and he refuses to pay any extra for shipping to Australia. Yeah, let me take a significant loss on shipping and send you an item when you've got a complaint open on me, that's a great way to lose my money.

That kind of thing is getting way more common. I'm really looking forward to the day I can ditch that garbage website.

Tell him you'll send it parcel post for the amount he's going to pay. :D

Post his eBay ID so we can block him. :naughty
Please. Please do that.

Same here. I don't need the headache of *********, idiot buyers on eBay. I've actually been pretty fortunate not to have many myself *knock on wood* but it's just a matter of time.

Actually, I had an auction just two days ago, and it had one bid with a couple hours to go. Fortunately I was online and paying attention at that time, as the potential buyer says, and this is a direct quote:

"if i win this item i didnt mean to click on bid i thought the biding was over and i just wanted to see if you would sell it for this price"

What the ____ is that? Guy had 0 feedback of course, and some stupid username suggesting he/she was 12 years old (an idea supported by the message). EBay sucks in many ways, but it's the best way to get the most money for something, so we have to take the bad with the good, I'm afraid.

At this point, if I could get away with tossing it in the harbour and having it float to Australia, I'd say that's about the level of service he deserves.

I'm sure GoWIII is banned in his country, so inform him that you will alert the authorities for trying to smuggle in contraband.
