For those who disagree with me, can you explain the purpose of this?

I've hated this ever since eBay implemented it. Just further proof how eBay caters to buyers and not their sellers. I consider myself a good seller and yet it's impossible for me to get 5-star ratings on all these items. Too many tools buying on eBay.

are you f'n retarded? you fully admit that you would still bid on an auction that charges you excessive shipping if it suits you, yet you will still leave that seller less than positive feedback for it. If you are so bothered by it, why do you even f'n bother to bid on that particular auction? you are the most hypocritical douche on this forum. and it makes me happy to see that im not the only one to see that. even evilface whom i dont always see eye to eye with can see that you are not making any sense.

I agree with karamazovthat the 5-star rating system is implemented to discourage things like high shipping costs. You can still get positive feedback, but a lower rating in that category. If you are going to try and get around the system, it should be reflected in your rating.

I would probaby not buy from someone who charged a low BIN with a high shipping cost, mostly because it tells me what kind of person I'd be dealing with. The only exception is if it is something that is hard to find.

amen bro. a-holes like karamazov can try to have power over us because of this BS.

If you were a seller on ebay you would know that the 5-star rating is a joke. They give you less than 5 stars for shipping time if the post office has trouble no matter if you shipped the item out the next day after payment was received. honestly as the seller do you have control over how the post office operates? yet people still prosecute you for it. Just ONE example of how the 5 star system sucks balls.

The rating system is a joke, that why I never really check it before deciding to buy. I just go by the main feedback score. Even if there are a few negatives, if you read the actual reviews you can tell if the problem was the buyer or the seller.

The converse to this problem is the overbearing sellers who flip out for getting rated only 4 out of 5 stars for something. Those people should get a real job and not have to worry about the pointless feedback of anonymous buyers. :lol

I genuinely pity sad people like the Nash. Do you know how pathetic and childish you seem here? Wow.

If anyone wants to keep waste of space trolls from bidding on their auctions, I suggest that you block cockstar. . . sorry, I mean rockstartoys

C'mon peeps, lets not continue with the personalising/insults of others. It's just a general discussion about evilbay methods.

Personally I buy a lot on the Bay, much more than I sell anyway and have yet to encounter a problem, guess I have been lucky.
When selling I just make sure to keep the buyer informed, use tracking with a signature and insurance just to keep me covered.

And the best thing to do is use Paypal's shipping function. I had an aunt that sold something and the buy tried to scam her in saying it never came. But she used Paypayl's shipping so they had a record of it with tracking and everything and they sided with my aunt THE SELLER!!! :google

But yeah, ebay has become so hard for sellers now I only use it as a last resort if I can't sell it here first.

Not that it excuses the kind of flagrant rules violations advocated by others here, but I agree completely. I sell a lot on eBay, and their constant increases in fees, changes to the feedback process (where sellers can't give buyers negative feedback), and other changes have really made it tougher to justify selling there. But then, you just can't get access to a market like that anywhere else. Ultimately, the pros of eBay outweigh the cons for sellers, but not to the extent that they used to. I hope that some competition will pop up one of these days, but I'm not overly optimistic on that front. The fact that they are so well-entrenched and powerful now is the reason behind these "do whatever we want" policies.

That one I posted above is actually mine, and I go to lengths to make sure that I'm completely honest with buyers, that I get my stuff out ASAP, and that shipping costs are fair, but even then, you are right--getting a perfect rating is difficult to impossible because different people have different perceptions about how these things work or should be rated (see Nash above, who thinks that $100 shipping for something that costs $5 to ship should be given 5 stars on that indicator). But I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. On the whole, after enough transactions, potential buyers get a pretty good feel for how legit a seller is I think. If you have 100 ratings and an average 1 star on shipping cost, then that means you charge too much for shipping. Same on communication, speed of shipping, etc. Feedback in general is, I think, a very good thing. But as posted above, I just wish it were applicable to buyers as well.

karamazov you are a retard. Where did I say that a seller charging $100 or more for shipping on something is "ok" to do? I stated that I myself would not bid on an auction like that. Yet YOU are the one saying that you WOULD bid on that auction but at the same time give the seller the appropriate bad feedback for it. My whole beef is, why the hell would you bid on an auction that you deem to be breaking ebay's rules when you will just turn around and give them a crappy feedback for it even if it doesn't harm you one bit? If you are such an an enforcer of Ebay's crap ass rules that no one here even respects, then why do you even bother to bid on those types of auctions? get a life hypocrite.

Someone can't read, I guess? I'm sorry if you were banned from the Spawn boards or something, but I don't think that justifies the embarrassing show you are putting on here.

Yeah, let's get a moderator in here to look at our posts and see who deserves banning. Seriously. You are contributing nothing but juvenile insults. Get lost.

lol :lol you obviously are from the Spawn boards. that explains a lot about you actually. Im not surprised.

Can't we all just get along?

I have had deals with both Nash and K80 on other boards, and they were both pleasures to do business with. Let's just stop the personal insults and just agree to disagree guys.
