Yeah I've only bought a batman shirt for my avatar. I don't think I'll ever buy a full blown costume though.

Pretty cool for the people who love to customize their avatar though.

They will charge whatever people are willing to pay... kinda like another company i know...

The new DLC trend I'm not liking is this Season Pass that AAA titles seem to be getting. $60 for said game plus another $30 for a "discounted" collection of content that a lot of the time is already on the disc.

Companies have to have some type of monetary budget to work with, so they have to anticipate "X" amount of sales at whatever rate they sell the game for. So anything on that disc should have been within the companies budget. So to charge to unlock previously developed and implemented content seems extremely greedy to me, but I guess from a business model it's actually considered "smart".

I thought Elder Scrolls was pretty ZZzzzzzzzzzzz but, this is grabbing my attention more and more i see previews for it.

I think some people would disagree and gladly pay. However, I am not one of them. IMO a game should come out with all content available. They are expensive enough. I remember with Gears of War Epic fought with Microsoft at first on charging for content (additional maps). Now they have no problem charging for it and even go as far as charging people in advance. No thanks! I say if you don't have all of the maps you want to add into the game then don't release it until it's ready or offer it for no charge. If you want to put code cards in the new boxes to avoid people buying pre-owned fine. I have no problem with that.

That said as long as people gladly pay this is how it will be. Same with these toy companies and their price increases. I'm proud to say I have no longer been purchasing collectible items and have no problem challenging their prices by simply not buying.

I also wanted to add in regards to this "season pass" business, that I already pay a season pass. It's called an Xbox Live subscription.

Regarding DLC: Does anyone know what percentage of the price goes to Microsoft/XBox and what percentage goes to the Developer?

Exactly... :)

I need to clarify that it was Elder Scrolls Oblivion that was a snooze fest after awhile of playing.

Usually around 40/60. 40 to Microsoft and 60 to developer. Sometimes it depends on if they want a DLC out sooner than other platforms.

next Friday can't come any sooner...what time do you guys think BB's will have them available for in-store pickups?

What you guys need to realize is when a game is released, development on it has stopped often 2 months prior.
You may get some bug fixes here and there but that's it.
Because you need to submit your final build to the various rating boards
(ESRB, PEGI, Australia..) which have to give you a rating before you can submit it to first party (Sony, MS...) so that they can play the game and give you the go ahead to release (or not).
And once you have all the approvals the game is gold and you release to manufacturer.

This means that developers during that time can be fairly idle and so some companies work on DLC.

In absolute you could probably put some DLC on the original disc (size permitting) but release dates are set often almost a year in advance and everyone (publisher, buyers, retailers...) will hold you to it so it's a huge cost (and confidence killer) to push back a date.

so yeah that was the :lecture monent.

The more you know!

Your statement contradicts itself.
Any DLC that is already on the disc would have to get the same testing and rating approval, would it not? You can't send the original to the ESRB and then throw some DLC on the disc just prior to release. Everything on that disc needs to be disclosed to whoever makes the approvals.

And companies sticking to pre planned release dates...lmao, are you serious?! Gears of War...Mass Effect...Duke Nukem...the list could go on forever. Release dates are tentative just like anything else.

My next week at college is going to go so slow. I pre-ordered this back in August on Amazon, so really hope I get my copy on Friday at least. Thursday would be a blessing from the nine!

His statement doesn't contradict itself at all, the DLC he is referring to is just that DLC, not on disc, not included in materials submitted for approval.

And changing release dates DOES cost money, sure they get pushed back at times, but that's not free!
