There was a time when EB's boxes were really well done. Best in business in fact. One could say HT M-Icons and DX boxes were inspired by EB's.

However, the last few EB's boxes have been really really crap. The Ip man and Chen Zhen are a significant drop in quality in terms of design and material. The Storm Warrior Evil Wind has the worse of them all. Super cheap cardboard material, plastic insert that doesn't hold the figure well at all and totally useless to hold the huge rock base that was included. Lots of boxes came damaged because EB didn't even bother padding the top part of the box. Lots of boxes got pierced by the rock base.

The HD1003 has a cheapo plastic tray that is totally useless to securely hold something so big and heavy. You can fell the statue wobbling inside when you shake the box.

The Onimusha box is an improvement overall but the material is still low quality. Lots of boxes came with tears. I dare say we have more tears for Onimusha than even DX04.

It's true that some HT boxes have been dropping in quality but they are some really nice ones too from time to time such as the VGM series, M-icons, DX, Platoon, etc.

I actually like the Iron Man 2 boxes more than the first. The first was cool in the beginning and then you start to realized it's a really cumbersome box that's all fancy and no point except in rising the already high price of Iron Man.

At the end of the day, the box is really just a box. It's to protect the figure and the stuff inside. It's nice to have a nice box but it's hardly a deal breaker as long as the box is not crap (and HT is far from crap). What's more important is the stuff inside.

What are we buying at the end of the day? The figure or the box?

Like I said in this thread before, EB seem more content in the quality of the box than the figure itself.

If I were EB; I'd release a "boxed set" of Classic Bruce Lee heads for each movie.

So for example: a GOD Boxed Head set that comes with maybe 5 heads representing iconic expressions from that movie.

Then one set for each other movie. Just heads - nothing else. People would have to buy the body set separately.

I would buy them :wave

That's a great idea Tin! I'd def buy a sculpted box set, and then go hunting for different outfits to customize from there forward! Send EB an email pronto! :rock

I just received in the mail - a USB Spotlight from the GoD set that I bought off eBay. You know this already Rory - but:

- It's huge. Bigger than I expected.
- Very nice detailing. There's very subtle rust weathering.
- A lot of the parts are made of metal so the thing feels really sturdy.

Very impressed. I'll post some action shots of it later lol.

I had no idea that actually lit up! Awesome :rock And to hear the quality is top notch is more good news!

Though it's true that we all display the figures, there are some of us who display the boxes and all the accessories/parts, so in reality we are buying the total package, not just the figure imo.

I agree a poor box probably wouldn't be a deal breaker on a $50-225 figure, but when the cost of these 1/6's starts to escalate to $300+ I think everything becomes important.

If HT or EB are asking for $300+ then we begin to heavily scrutinize all the details about the release and that goes passed the figure itself, it defintely extends to accessories and box presentation.

If this figure for example which retails at $350 came in a POS box and no accessories, it would be a much easier pass for me regardless of the figure's sculpt and 1 outfit. For a high retail price like this I want everything to be top of the line with no signs of cutting corners to save money anywhere on the total package.

And in my opinion - nowhere near EB.

You could say exactly the same thing about the respective MSRPs. Apples and oranges comparing $300+ with sub-$200.

Exactly. Fair enough to be impressed by what you're getting for your money, but don't lose sight of the fact that you have paid for it. Waxing lyrical about EB's packaging being superior to what HT does when you're talking about a 50% premium at the point of sale is absolutely ridiculous.

I have to admit that I probably put more value in the box design than most. I've always been a admirer of really cool package designs.

I like alot of the designs for HT boxes. Even the Ironman ones that I feel dropped in quality of the materials - still have really nice designs none the less.

With EB - I only the examples of IPMan (which I haven't opened), WoD, Kato, and FoF (which I also have not opened) - so I don't know about the quality of the more recent releases. So the future's still to be written on whether EB gets better, maintains, or drops in quality.

Also - HT has put out a lot of figures compared to EB and in a whole I've been pretty happy with I'd say 80% of their figures that I have.

Hey now. I was only reacting to a comparison made by another poster based on my own albeit limited experience with of figures :lecture:)

But the EB Kato and EB WoD boxes do kick heavy-duty booty

LOL at comparing company boxes. Why even have figures at all. Its about the boxes, man!! :)

But seriously, neither company is better or worse.
Both veer wildly depending on what they want to do with each figure.

Enterbay do tend to go all out on boxes for their Bruce Line line.
Hot Toys go all out on DX figures.
Both put in far less effort for figures with less popularity and demand.

What I don't get is guys here that have 30-50 figures and apparently keep all the boxes. Seriously, how the hell do you have that much spare storage!?! :D :D

Man, this release coming to me is turning out to be a NIGHTMARE!
Enterbay did send me a confirmation of my order with their Paypal reciept of my payment...

WHICH HAS MY FRIEND ADDRESS LISTED IN THE "POST TO" SECTION!

Whereas In the payment request invoice they sent to me, Shipping directly to My address was mentioned and my address was listed in the Terms and Conditions section.

Worse of all they still havent explicitly stated whether they can undervalue my item to make me avoid paying bribes! There is just so much craziness going on that I feel that this release reaching me will be an adventure in itself of sorts! NOT a pleasant one though... I wish someone could help me or just explain to me wether my panic is warranted or am I just being too jumpy... GoD!

Damn axe, that sounds like a nightmare for the Paypal part alone. Add in the problems at the customs check, and communicating with service reps, and you might consider just taking a flight to HK and picking this up in person a better alternative :lol

I'm surprised nobody else has landed 1 of these since Rory and Gruf...need those pics asap :D

Is your friend also in India? Reason I ask is because it may be a blessing in disguise if your friend is outside of India. Then they can just send to him/her and she can send to you (undervaluing it).

Other than that - let's hope EB will change the receiver address - and undervalue it for posting. Good luck Axe

It IS a serious issue for me. I don't throw out any box. And some of the boxes - like the Medicom Kaneda bike and Bandai Yamato are the size of a small coffin. I have a walk-in closet and two regular closets full.

The storage isn't the only thing - I have to regularly check and rotate them out for display so that they don't deteriorate in the boxes.

Been lucky so far except two days ago - discovered that my HT Nostromo Kane's rubber spacesuit is totally screwed. Both sticky in some parts and dry and cracking in some parts. Had to take all of the armor and accessories off and clean. All the straps are a loss though - will have to make new ones. :gah:

Yup he's IN India, a 2 anda half hour flight from my city, in the IT Hub of India way down South, whereas Im in the East... This is a screwed up situation, I was better off buying from BBTS :monkey2

What you guys are basically saying is, "the quality of the package is worth the money". I have to say that, despite all the issues with Ip Man, the wooden dummy was sensational. That figure wasn't cheap either, nearly 200 bucks for a single figure and sod all accessories. But when I looked at it all as a package I could see where the money went. It's great to see that despite all the issues surrounding this release, folks are taking delivery and are very happy with what they see.

Tell me about it! i fell in love with the wooden dummy (known as the mu ren zhuang) more than the figure! scouted ebay for a loose one so i could stand it beside my FoF BL but not much luck, people were asking for abt usd100 which made me just give up.

you'll be impressed with the FoF set i'm very sure, the wooden backdrop with the huge word "武“ looked so solid that i decided to make my glass shelves 8" apart just so i will be able to display it. :)

yes yes someone contact EB quick with this excellent marketing idea! but do throw in the outfits as well, i'm sure i'm not the only one here who is quite ____e with hunting down outfits to customize.. :lol

might even be cheaper than the "bribes" you might end up paying for bro

i'm trying to imagine you having to put up with this reaction everytime someone visits your home :rotfl

Well my dealer has told me he will be sending me the painted head in July/August. Enterbay have told him he will be supplied with them for each set. So good news for anyone who bought the set early.
:)

Hey Rorywan,

I am a little confused here, and I hope you would not mind me asking.

According to the Enterbay's Beijing Distributor (Dealer): "Everyone who has bought the exclusive Beijing Exhibition set will get a free 3rd. head - sent free of charge by registered air mail (or at an extra fee if sent by EMS) - no matter when bought as it will be an exclusive additional gift for this particular Beijing Exhibition set."

...I do not know about those who bought the regular set though Rorywan. Did he tell you that this would aply for the early buyers of the regular (non Beijing) set as well or am I reading your post wrong here mate ?
