Lets all pray that The Hobbit doesn't follow suit.

I thought these books looked lame when they came out and I thought the trailer of this piece of ****e looked ever worse.

Pixle . . .the good news is that The Hobbit isn't a ripoff of anything. Thank goodness for THAT!

Amen to that. The material being used is far superior... (hopefully we can get the only director capable of matching Tolkien's creative genius - - not to turn this into a PJ thread or anything). "D

Good to know my reviews of the book earlier this year aren't singular. I see all the same stuff I noted--no character development, a purloined story arc, and the only worthwhile thing is the dragon (which even then is nothing earth-shatteringly amazing). It's excellent for a writer of his age, but not worthy of the inordinate amount of praise it's been receiving. I think people are only impressed by his age; though frankly, I've seen far better writers at much younger ages. They just didn't profit from the hype of any particularly recent films or similar genres and story lines................

PJ matching Tolkien's genius.......I love PJ, but I think that's stretching it.

Are you kidding me? Do you know the amount of stamina and creativity it took pj to just put these movies together simultaneously... Man I am talking about the genius he possesses of creative organization... No less meritable than literary genius IMO.

pix is right. Genius matters, but there's no substitute for hard work.

I saw it on Friday.

I really enjoyed it.

I am a HUGE fan of the book, and have been waiting fot this film for a long time. I wasn't disappointed, but I thought they could have done things differently.

For starters, they should have had more character development. I thought Arya's character was severely under-used, considering she is such a huge character in the book. Also, it never even explained what she is!

I thought the film should have been longer, say 2 hours at least, as then they could have developed the characters and slowed down the plot (Saphira growing fully should have been a longer process), giving them chance to explain things more.

As for the acting, I was quite happy with that. I think Ed Speelers was a very good choice for Eragon, and Jeremy Irons was quite good. Sienna Guillory was good for the few scenes she had, but I still think she should have had black hair, like in the book.

Saphira was my only actor (or voice) quibble - I didn't think the voice suited her that well. Maybe it's just me though.

Saying all that, I still really enjoyed it, and look forward to seeing it again!

I wish I would of seen the same movie that you did:eek:
I wonder what the budget was for this movie, because they sure didn't use it on the sets. And when they showed the armys, all far away shots. And the same 10 actors played all the soldiers.
I bet this movie really cuts the book sales down, what a bad movie.

Certainly not the best movie I've ever seen, but also not the worst by a long shot. It was worth the $5 admission price I paid to see it. With so few fantasy movies out there, it was also worth it just for that. Though they did leave about 90% of the story out, and almost all of the depth. (well, okay, what depth there WAS in the books).

Not a big stars wars fans so I can't comment or add to the similarities others have discussed here, but I will admit that I laughed out loud when the shot came up of Durza giving his speech to the Urgals - it was a total rip off (though the director might say a "nod") to Saruman addressing the Uruk Hai in TTT.

I'm just waiting for Jackson and Temeraire. Now THAT will be a dragon movie!

Where'd you see a movie for $5?!?!? My AMC just raised there prices to $8.50
with my student discount.

$9.50 for a MATINEE.

The budget for Eragon was over $100 million, so I'm thinking they aren't going to recoup. So much for a trilogy...

$5 at AMC theater, 10:10 a.m. last Saturday. In Dallas, Texas. Maybe it's cheaper for the first (morning) show of the day. I so rarely go to the movies that I don't really know when the prices change during the course of the day.
