Last I had read this was a remake of the original. I haven't heard anything about it for over a year now though (and IMDB isn't always that up to date) so I'm not really convinced that we'll see this film in 2009. Though I'd like to be wrong...I'm somewhat interested in what this remake would look like.

All of the Evil Dead flicks bombed at the box office, I don't see why they would make another.

Raimi has been whittering on about another ED film for years now. First he had to put the sequel on hold for Spidey, then he wanted to do a remake first, then the chin made some comment about a sequel again. Most recently Raimi has said that a remake is in constant discussion and there are no plans for a sequel as yet but that the remake was on the backburner due to other committments. If we see anything in the next 3-4 years I'll be very surprised.

Ive read that they are talking about making Evil Dead: The Musical into a movie.

Yup, a 3D movie no less. Not sure if they're just planning on filming the stage show and showing it in cinemas or whether they intend writing an actual screenplay and filming it as a movie? Either way I'll definitely be watching it.

Awesome news. I don't care which as long as Raimi doesn't sell out and make a slick hollywood piece of ^^^^.

True, but these films have gathered one hell of a cult following over the years. Even with a straight-to-DVD release it would probably make more money than a lot of stuff does at the box office.

And the last I heard, it's a remake of the original. Actually, so was "Dead By Dawn" :lol

Same thing was said when Army of Darkness was made :lol

But I think that has more to say on the quality of the movie. Other than the scenes with Ash, the movie is bad. The "battle" is boring z z z z z z z.

Dead by Dawn wasn't a remake of the first movie, even though it felt like it was. This is from Sam Raimi himself on the audio commentary to Evil dead 2.

I'm interested in this mainly because Sam Raimi is directing. it will be nice to see what he can do now, and if he is able to go back to his roots. we got a taste of that in spiderman 2 during the doc ock hospital scene.

One of my favorite commentaries!! They're better when they're lively, and the people are actually together in the room. I hate commentaries that are cut together audio clips.
I know the official statement is that DBD is a sequel, but I've never seen it that way. To me it's a remake. Maybe not even that, but a different spin on the same story. I guess I refuse to believe that even Ash would be stupid enough to go back to that cabin. And with his second girlfriend named Linda?? :lol I don't that Sam says difinitively either way in the commentary. I know he says something about Ash being stupid enough to go back but, as is usually the case with Sam, it's nearly impossible to tell if he's joking or not.

In the Evil Dead comic by Dark Horse they kind of try to explain both movies.

What happened in the 1st movie was a dream while on his way to the cabin which is the start of the 2nd movie. So there was no Cheryl, Shelly and Scotty.

Hope that makes sense.

Also I doubt this movie will happen now that Raimi is signed on for Spidey 4 and 5. :(
