Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

https://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3140170/omfg-wtf-say-what-evil-dead-4-in-the-works-sam-raimi-suing-to-stop-it/

" I literally just had my mind blown, courtesy of this article at THR, and it more than warrants my ridiculously obnoxious headline. According to the website, a fight has broken out over who has rights to do a new sequel of the 1981 horror classic, The Evil Dead.

Apparently, Award Pictures says it plans to make a fourth film in the series. Yes, the long-promised Evil Dead 4. Renaissance Pictures, formed in 1979 by producer/director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and actor/producer Bruce Campbell for the purpose of making the first film, is suing Award Pictures for the sequel rights, which is interesting considering they’ve abandoned any talk of Evil Dead 4 and started production on the remake, Evil Dead, April 11 with FilmDistrict and Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures.

Anyways, the interesting bit that comes out of the article is that this potential coming film is allegedly interfering with Raimi’s own plan to make his own sequel for Sony Pictures and FilmDistrict. But Award Pictures isn’t laying down. The company is using Raimi’s own comment in a 2000 book that he would never do a sequel as proof that the Evil Dead trademark was abandoned. The company now says it is the primary trademark holder of the film title.

Skipping ahead a bit, Renaissance says Award Pictures’ planned film entitled Evil Dead 4: Consequences, is intended to cause confusion to consumers, and also says that the key plot elements and character names “would inevitably infringe Renaissance’s copyright rights in The Evil Dead.” Alleging trademark infringement, false advertising, injury to business reputation, Renaissance is asking for an injunction against further infringement and further monetary damages.

You can read the lengthy article by clicking here, but let’s all have a little chat about this right here, right now. While it’s sweet to hear that Award Pictures would be moving on the inevitable Evil Dead 4, there’d be zero input by Raimi and Co. Therefore, it would probably be some bull_____ direct-to-VOD sequel that 100% wouldn’t star Bruce Campbell. Do we even want that? I’d rather sit and hope that Raimi comes around and one day delivers on his promise than have some company half-ass a bull_____ sequel in the vein of Asylum garbage. Good luck Raimi! "

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I'd love an Evil Dead 4 but by Raimi and co. If they never do it so be it. We don't need a cheap sequel. Ugh.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I've been itching like everyone else for a ED4 for 20 years since AOD. But at this point, Bruce is too old and frankly too overweight to be Ash anymore. He's comfortable with horrendous movies like "My Name is Bruce" I guess.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Dam been looking for the trailer on youtube and everywhere for ages. At lest one person has got to have recorded it :gah:

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

What kind of cheap **** is that? It looks exactly like a straight to DVD movie....

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Trailer looked amazing while it was up. Hard rated R, no camp and gore. Loved the tongue.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

no camp and gore.
Which, in my mind, makes me wonder why they are even going there. Take out the camp and fun, and the original Evil Dead films were just more forgettable horror fare. I'll probably watch it on Netflix, but not all that excited about it based on the trailer.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Haters gonna hate. You all were probably 16 when the original came out so of course you don't like the new trailer. You're decades in the past..... ;) :lol *waits for it*

I actually like the trailer and can't wait. I'm a huge Evil Dead nerd so I'll be happy with it regardless. That tongue scene gives me the impression this is going to be extremely graphic, which is the only way to shock crowds nowadays. I'm down for that though! :lol Can't wait!

which makes me wonder how sick in the head you have to be to come up with that kinda stuff....who wants to watch a demon cut its own tongue up? kinda sick if you ask me and unnecessary

Why are you in the Horror section of the forum? :slap The tongue scene is mild compared to a lot of things nowadays.

I'm gonna disagree here. There'd be nothing funner than trying to come up with gags like that to gross people out. :lol

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I've always preferred The Evil Dead to both Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. The latter two films are great fun and I love them a lot, but the original Evil Dead to this day remains one of the scariest films I've ever seen. As a no-nonsense horror fan, I adore that film, and it's been a Halloween tradition in my home every year since I was a boy.

I've always been a little annoyed with the general cult bias that favors ED2 and AOD, as I've always found them to be inferior to the original. The Evil Dead had serious balls, and much like, say, the original Halloween, it was made by a passionate group of inexperienced kids with a budget that wouldn't have paid for catering service on a studio film being made at that time.

As for the remake trailer, I'm relived to see the gruesome, gory, and horrific tone of the original restored. The trailer has renewed optimism and even generated some excitement for me. Count me in.

Because I like Evil Dead, but only really Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.I thought the first one sucked and wasn't scary at all....If any movie had any real shock/scare factor in the 80's was DEMONS..

I just don't understand why people get off on torture porn anyway :dunno

Riiight, Well I'll just say me, since I love 70's and 80's gore/explotation films.

Usually I'm not down for remakes. I think it's unproductive as far as film making goes but a "serious" take on this might actually work. I'm going to give it a shot in April.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I'm a big fan of the trilogy, so I'm certainly looking forward to this one.
I hope it retains the same dark, gore feeling of the original.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Good choice he would have been a great ash about ten or so years ago but if they are looking to remake the original the actor needs to be in his 20s.

I think they should re-release a special edition of Army of Darkness with the original intended ending then do a sequel to it with Bruce set years later with him still stuck in the apocalyptic future trying to find a way back with deadites in control of the earth.

The boomstick edition has that ending in the director's cut
