Obviously the likeness isn’t there but Hot Toys paint apps still blow away any other company and it’s really not even close.

Yeah, but no paint app in the world will save that sculpt. Or the Peacemaker sculpt. Or the Sideshow Clone Wars Anakin and Obi-Wan. With how terrible some of them have been, it's no surprise there isn't a face sculpt for Moon Knight and they seem way more focused on figures with helmets like Storm Troopers and Boba Fett.

And when you consider the price difference? Oh jeez. $295 for that Obi-Wan? No thank you.

EXO-6 does excellent work and I criticize Hot Toys when warranted but they are still at the top of the game for the sheer number of consistently well painted and sculpted head sculpts on the market. No other company has come remotely close in terms of volume and consistency.

Hot Toys is far from perfect but truly objectively bad sculpts are still outliers. And they're not doing a lot of figures without sculpts because they can't do sculpts. It's because those figures are cheaper to produce, can be pushed out faster, and troopers and Mandos are always popular.

The head sculpts are all hand painted so it's easily the most bottlenecked part of the manufacturing process. Their release schedule would be even more messed up if there weren't figures without sculpts mixed in.

Also no reason to drop Sideshow Anakin and Obi-Wan in there if you're talking about Hot Toys. Hot Toys had nothing to do with that.

From what I know their headsculpts are not hand painted. Only the prototypes are.

The product description for their figures specifically say "Each head sculpt is specially hand-painted" so it would be a pretty big controversy if they weren't.

They are hand painted, but in an assembly line fashion. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s how every 1/6 company does it, just Hot Toys has the factories with the most talented and highest skilled painters.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.

I just get my hackles raised a bit when I see Exo6 compared to something like HOt Toys, because that's literally apples to oranges. I'm thrilled to be getting what we're getting at the price we're getting from Nanjin.

I get that. I have nothing but respect for what EXO-6 is doing and the value for money is pretty incredible. Definitely very different types of operations though.

Exactly. To pretend otherwise indicates extreme bias. Maybe accuracy is off in some people’s view. however, the realism of the paint app is always better than any other 1/6 scale mass production company.

Any kind of stan-type fandom gets my hackles up.

I would argue that being unbiased is borderline impossible for any of us, in any situation. There's a reason why they go through dozens, if not hundreds, of potential jurors in a juror pool before settling on their 12 members. Lawyers don't even bother looking for unbiased, just those whose bias leans in their favor.

So my biases:

Against Hot Toys
- Hot Toys are extremely overpriced compared to the market. And we have some idea as to why; Howard Chan throws money at both licenses and talent like a drunken sailor to get what he wants. And thus far, people are still willing to pay as the price approaches or exceeds $300 per item.
- Hot Toys paint ops are fantastic, there's no getting around that. BUT are they $300 fantastic? I debate that. Also, other portions of Hot Toys have really gone downhill. Bodies aren't fully customized to represent the build of the character. Clothing is oftentimes sculpted and not fabric, which prevents you from doing fun poses long-term (so what's the point? Might as well buy a statue).
- The licenses have become boring and stale. Every release now seems to be Marvel or Star Wars. Which is great if your heart is on those, boring if you want something else.

For EXO-6
- I've known Nanjin personally for many years, and know the hardships he's been through to get to this point, as well as the types of wonderful people he employs and what his compassionate end goals are. He's not in it for the money. He's in it to give to the fans and help the less fortunate as well.
- Price point, obviously.
- Star Trek is my #1 favorite fandom, hands-down.

So yeah! I am biased. And I realize this. I still think that Data, Picard, Mirror Spock and now Q are pretty close in quality to what Hot Toys has to offer in headsculpting and paint. Janeway and the Dr are not quite at that level. The tailoring on all of these blows Hot Toys away, though we haven't seen a really complicated getup just yet - that'll have to wait to make a real, true comparison to me.

The only thing I would add to your post is Mirror Sulu.

From his promo images, he actually looks like he could be a HT release.

Howard Chan set out to build a Kingdom right from the very start of the company 20 years ago.

I set out to build a playground right from the start. I didnt even wanted the license, and I didn't even know how much QMx would pay me as an employee when I resigned from my previous employment. I went to Hong Kong/China 7 days after then I found out I was the lowest pay employee at QMx. Warehouse people made more than me for all the time that I worked there.

Even now, I attitude hasn't change. I am still building a playground.

Paintup is an assets. We will improve our paintup, and i even have a training plan for our painters. They will be professional painters that every companies will want to have when EXO-6 write its final chapter. Of course, before this happens, they have to do some amazing work for us, Trek first.

Starting from Q collectors will see a much better paintup from previous releases. From Seven, we will have another jump in paintup skills for female characters.

It is not how much time we have to achieve EXO-6 goals, but how time we have LEFT to achieve our goals.

Watch us grow. 3 years from today. We will be the Navy Seal in 1/6.

I can't wait to see what's in store ;)

Nanjin,

Once Exo-6 has performed its last swan dance (that’ll be a sad day), will you be setting up another 1/6 company and venturing into other franchises/licenses?

I think all of us here would certainly support you with that for sure 👍🏻

Top work and enthusiasm.

I started preping for that day on day one. Someone will take over the company and i will move on to build my school.

EXO-6 is a brand under Newson International. I might want to keep exo-6 permanently for Trek and create another brand for the successor.

First of its kind in collectible, EXO-6 ends not because of failure but becuae of success.

Isn't that something special?

A Legend in this sector.

It’s awesome that you are doing it on your own terms. While I will greatly miss EXO and what it could do for other properties I totally understand and admire your plan and wish it the best.
