So wait, they can do a Gorn with rubber skin, but the tooling for the Borg Queen or a FC drone would be too expensive on an articulated figure?
They are probably apples and oranges, requiring different skills, different factories, different materials, with the latter taking up more resources that are also needed elswhere.

My understanding is It's the manufacturing costs because it has a bespoke skin I suppose. It's too costly to produce in large numbers, presumably because its price point means a lot of people who claim they are interested will bow out. I think he caught a cold with Seven, who was arguably far more popular and doesn't want to go down that road again.

He may also have grossly underestimated interest.
I don’t see how he would have underestimated the interest. People have been asking about it for a while now.

Guys, he knows the interest level. The more I think about this release , the more I believe it is most likely his latest Sales pitch to drum up more demand. There is no way his private club idea can offer any scaling of production meaning he will lose money in a very small run. Contrary to what you guys think, you actually need increased of production or scaling of a product to make it more affordable per unit. Then there is also the legal licensing aspect of selling a licensed product under the table I’m sure Paramount and its licensed holder will not allow.

In regards to this one being an exclusive for his club, I just cannot see how he can produced a small quantity of say 100-200 and call it a day with the cost of production, licensing and labor. If he really want to make a small quantity, the other issue is it might end up being a $500 + figure and at that price point, it might even be the breaking point even for a die hard fan but that price point might be what it will take if he only want to sell 200 Gorns.

Even though he tells everyone he is losing money on some figures I really doubt it. I get the passion but you must scale a product to not lose money. You might not make alot of money but you definitely will not lose money if you have scale with a product. Of course this does not factor in actual demand. The guy is a salesman and knows the potential of this run. He cannot be making figures because he loves the buyers and would be even willing to make it when he is losing money. For what it is worth

If he wants to use the gorn as a popular opener to swell the chest for other less popular characters, I can see some logic in that. But there would be no logic in restricting membership of S31 in that scenario. He might let everyone join and then kick people out for rules violations, I suppose, as time goes on.

Early days, so hard to tell.

I honestly doubt it. I have been involved in many high end custom runs and typically what he is referring is exactly that , a very exclusive custom run and with custom runs it becomes very expensive per unit as there is no scaling for lower cost per unit as quantity is very limited which drives up per unit cost. He is no longer a small potato and has licensing rights issues to work through. No way will a major studio allow him to sell X characters without public approval and exposure. My hunch is if he could run his license as a separate n underground club, he would have done it by now instead of telling everyone he will, about to do it, preorder will start when ready etc.. a lot of postering but not in action

The problem is he likes to throw his weight around. He’s the only person in the sixth scale industry currently who’s willing to take on Star Trek and he knows it.

So he basically holds that over collectors and honestly in some ways acts as a bit of a bully while playing the victim card when anyone questions anything. Then he goes around putting popular characters behind some bs exclusive club.

I’m only collecting these because I like Trek. The guy behind the scenes I’ve grown to dislike more and more.

I fully expect him to turn around and make most Section 31 figures available for general purchase.

He just enjoys ******* with people too much.
Yeah, trolling trolls seems to be his main hobby. Well, that and feeding corvids. Still, it's never bothered me. It's his sandbox and without him, there isn't a sandbox. He can do what he likes and I can buy what I like. I also think a lot of this is hype.

Interesting.
Nanjin seems like a good guy who used to post here and even support this site with his $, until too many entitled know-it-alls were hypercritical of him and his offerings. It's funny that people who never hesitated to slam his company, his figures, his choices, and he himself, are so laughably thin-skinned when the tables are turned and he returns serve. Some of you can certainly dish it out but definitely can't take it 😂

Just my observation, but definitely valid. Looking forward to the Gorn and TOS I'm 2025! Make it so, Captain Tam!👍

No one was ever that hypercritical of him. He took offense to feedback and didn’t like anyone else’s input. We’re not experts so what do we know? His attitude is crappy towards the people who buy his products.
