wasn't there supposed to be a HD collection?
I remember hearing tell a ways back. Here's a article.
The Shenmue series, despite a lack of sales, is one of the most beloved game series of the last 10 years or so. Although the original game on Dreamcast and its sequel on the original X-Box were financial failures, they were critically praised due to great graphics and beautiful storytelling, and since then have devoted a small but extremely devoted fan following. A Shenmue III was announced years ago, as was a PC-only MMO called Shenmue Online. However, the PC game canceled due to lack of interest, and after years of on-again/off-again dealings on the third game in the main series, it was officially put to rest in 2010, with most reasoning for the cancellation being related to budget issues (the first two games cost roughly $95,000,000 combined by today’s budget standards, and SEGA did not manage to break even in sales figures).
However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Early last year, it was announced that Shenmue HD was in the works. This is a collection of the first two games in one set, but with improved graphics and sound. It is being reported that the set will release on XBL and PSN, which if true, could mean big business for the once dead franchise. The HD re-releases and disc collections have proven very lucrative for both Microsoft and Sony, and if the track record for this kind of re-release is any indication, Shenmue HD could be a surprise hit.
While no release date has been confirmed, SEGA reps have hinted that it will release sometime this year, with sources like IGN.com going one further and stating they have reports that the game is already finished and has been since late 2010/early 2011.
What does this mean for the future of the series? Well, if the HD collection does well, we could potentially see the long awaited third game in the series. Although SEGA reps have stated they have no intention of making the third game despite fan demand (with numerous petitions for the rebirth garnering hundreds of thousands of signatures), opinions change when money starts coming in. If the HD collection can do well enough, SEGA would be foolish to continue to ignore fans, as it would all but guarantee they’d have a hit on their hands.
If you’re anything like me and you love this series, when the HD collection inevitably hits consoles, let SEGA know how badly you want a new installment. How? By opening up your wallet and picking up the HD games. In the gaming industry, money talks, and if the money talks loud enough, SEGA may be forced to finally listen.

From the short time I played it, I would definitely want to delve into a old school game like this.
