I'm not sure I ever sat all the way through the second one, though I gave it a shot once. Fishburne Surfer I remember, cloud Galactus, crappy Doom was there again stinking up the screen, and Reed and Sue got married. . .by Brian Posehn.

For me it's pretty simple--they were terribly written and directed, with questionable casting decisions for Reed, Sue, and Doom. Once the decision is made to bring in the guy from "Barber Shop" to direct, there's only so much you can expect, though. I remember when the news first started hitting about those originals, and that plus the casting made me very skeptical. Turns out, as usual, you could gauge pretty well what you were going to get at that point.
Yeah, I don't disagree with any of that.. but I still like'em. :lol

Ioan Gruffud, Alba & McMahon were garbage choices, really. That whole 'marriage' mini arc was painful, totally. The fart cloud Galactus was a disappointment too.

Still, the set up for the beginning of the first one was cool, Ben's story - & related scenes, Evans was great.. but yeah.

So much wrong too. :lol

I’m confused. So Stic is saying that we should start investing in more space research? I think our deficit is way too big to already to invest in all this new technology. And who is this Fan that gives Stic more credibility? I don’t know. These campaign ads are getting way to high concept for me nowadays. Although, I would recommend Stic supporters to take out the imagery of a black man being burned on fire. I think some people would be sensitive to that. Other than that, I think it was pretty interesting. At the very least, I can admire Fan for promoting his candidate so early. Ron Paul isn’t running in 2016, so I guess Stic is good as any.

Bane4Stic 2016.

I watched the trailer with the commentary and I'm starting to warm up to it.

I can appreciate you guys' point of view that the FF and CB movies in general should be more "fun" (although I don't fully agree), but I feel there is an inherent problem with approaching CB movies that way.

I think "fun" and humor are extremely subjective. What you guys find funny and what I find funny have the potential to be worlds apart. OTOH, drama, or grit or seriousness of the subject matter, is a little easier to find common ground. That is of course a generalization. But by approaching a CB movie seriously and focusing on characters and emotional weight, you are already giving the subject matter more legitimacy. When you approach a CB movie saying, "let's make this fun and humorous", you are already taking something away from characters that have existed for generations.

Of course it's possible to have CB movies be fun. Marvel has proven that time and again. But they found the right filmmakers to make that possible. Fox seems to have real trouble doing that. The first 2 FF movies were terrible IMO. Sure, the Barbershop guy, and the studio, approached the movie trying to make it fun and about the family dynamic. That's exactly why they hired the Barbershop guy. But see what you end up with? Same with the new Spider Man movies. They wanted to make it more fun, and they did! Isn't Electro playing Itsy Bitsy Spider on those electrical towers fun? So fun!

Conversely, FOX approached the X-Men movies a little more seriously, and I think they have succeeded because of that (at least X1, X2, FC and DOFP). There is still some humor in them, and they are certainly entertaining. Just because they approach the subject matter more seriously and more grounded doesn't mean they are dour, humorless, Sam Mendes movies.

I was impressed by how Trank spoke about the property--with respect. It's surprising because I thought, based on what I had previously read, that he had never even picked up the CB, or was completely disregarding it. I'm glad to see that he did do at least some research of the CBs.

I for one am going to give this a chance. I wasn't planning on it, but the trailer and the commentary have turned me around. I probably won't watch it in the theater (I don't get the chance to go too often), but I will certainly watch it on Blu.

MOS Tornado suicide was hilarious for me.

There's something wrong if a trailer needs a filmmaker commentary track in order to enjoy it.

True, but weren't we all judging the movie partially on what we had read about Trank and the cast disregarding the FF books and source material? The commentary helped me see that a lot of what I had read regarding that wasn't necessarily true or as bad as it sounded.

They should have done a commentary with Matthew Vaughn.

"So this part looks good....this part's pretty good. That was good."

Singer did the same thing with DOFP trailer, it's seems like Fox plan on doing this for their superhero trailers and I think its pretty cool.

I asked Trank what I should do to prepare for the trailer and he said "don't listen to any commentaries." So now I'm really confused.

He's saying only his opinion matters since he's the one driving the train.

You know him personally? Did you kick him in his area on behalf of all FF fans everywhere?

Area?

Oh heck yeah, I kicked him right in his ego.
