Nah, he definitely was the best player in Argentina, he qualified the team all by himself, after that, he did nothing.
But there were plenty of other players who deserved it better than him, either defenders or goal keepers.

Was rooting for Argentina but Germany was without a doubt the dominate team. Congrats Germany!

That's funny. Germany did the best of any team all tourney long and deserved to win.

I would put Mascherano ahead of Messi. Yeah Messi scored a couple of wonder goals but he drifted in & out of matches for long periods sometimes but Mascherano has been awesome this whole tournament for every game from beginning to end.

Messi can take 1 man out of the game. Maradona could take the whole opposition team out of the game.

Germany are a bunch of badasses! Jogi Loew's team is for real. And that goal was ****ing righteous! Best team throughout the tournament and they got it done. And honestly after watching Barca all year long, it definitely seemed that that dark cloud which hung over that team in those games that mattered the most, was hanging over Messi all game long today. Sad.

This World Cup has been a memorable one. Germany made South America their b***h, Holland hammered a large nail into the coffin of tiki taka, and an excitable coach from Mexico was more entertaining than any of the players.
The USA and Costa Rica also deserve a mention as both did a lot better than anyone would have expected them to.
Even England made progress by being so bad that they didn't even get to a stage where they could lose on penalties

Messi can take 1 man out of the game. Maradona could take the whole opposition team out of the game.
Messi can also do that, and has done it multiple times, in an age where defenders are beasts physically speaking, unlike Maradona's age.
That's why his performance in this last part of the WC is all the more disappointing.
Just a small report from Hamburg. It is 1am and everybody is going crazy. People are dancing on the streets while it is raining cats and dogs.
