I feel better that we won today :) I don't care that England lost, but the more you dump on the US the more I enjoy that 0 in your column.
I'm not 'dumping' on the US, it was a good result.
Going on from that to say they would have many World Cup titles 'if there was more interest' is being VERY presumptuous.

Typical American elitest attitude when it comes to sporting prowess.
'Yeah we're pretty crap but we would be totally awesome if we cared enough. USA...USA...USA' :monkey3

its not elitist attitude it a numbers game. Any county that has large population that has high level interest in a sport becomes top level world team

You may want to check FIBA's WC winner list to see how dominant the USA is, I see them struggle against european teams all the time and I'm no Baseball connoisseur but I see them struggle against other countries as well.

That's your flaw, you think top level athletes is all you need to play football, having top level athletes would not change a thing.

You think Messi, Neymar, Iniesta, Xavi are acclaimed for their physical prowess? No, you need another, more complete set of skills to be a footballer.
Yeah we struggle when we bring in the B team.

Yes having top level athletes will make a huge difference. Yes they are acclaimed for physical prowess, to say otherwise is idiotic. They have physical skill many others don't and that's what makes them top level players.

Agreed, and to say we would have a Cup easily is a bit much, but not a huge stretch.

To say 'typical American elitest attitude' is not fair though considering you host 'English Premier League' (premier meaning first in importance, order, or position; leading). :wink1:

Still.

You have countries like England, Brazil, Italy, Argentina, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands etc etc, all with huuuuuuge domestic leagues and highly competitive regional tournaments, huge budget for said leagues and national teams, all generating the most highly valued players every year, each of those countries loving football even more than America loves the Superbowl, and none of them have it "easy" when competing for the WC.

So I don't think a hypothetical USA team could easily win a WC especially if you remember that they struggle with their sports that are already popular such as Baseball, Basketball and American Football against other countries.

Could the become more competitive given more resources? Of course, and they're doing so slowly but surely, 10 years ago they weren't even considered for anything, now big teams watch out for them.

If I said I thought they would easily 'win' a World cup (actually can't remember if I did and am too lazy to check) then sure let me dial it back and merely say that they could easily be bigger contenders than they are and, yeah, maybe win a WC (not saying they'd become dominant for successive tournaments). The place is big enough to theoretically provide the talent necessary IF soccer ever became big there. That's really all I intended to say.

'Premier' distinguishes it from the other divisions. As opposed to say, 'World Series' :lol

Anyone who says China isn't Dominant in sports they are interested in and put money into might want to go back and look at Olympic results.

I suggest that Americans and Brits alike set aside their differences and come together to rag on another country that's easy to push around. Who will join me in denigrating the Indians? What the hell do they do all day? They have an OK cricket team, and they're alright at hockey. But a billion people can't put a starting eleven on a football field? Shame India, shame. More soccer, less call centres :lecture

Sure.

This reply is idiotic, and it shows you clearly have no idea what Fooball is about, buddy.

Iniesta, Messi, Xavi, Neymar could easily be outperformed when it comes to sheer physical capabilities by MANY others, EASILY.

They're acclaimed for their intelligence, timing and technique, if you can't understand that then I understand the source of your opinion, just don't ask me to take it seriously anymore.

Someone in the past already said they could turn "athletes into footballers" and he failed, I don't expect you to know who.

I hate domestic football. I only follow the World Cup and the Euros.
I pretty much hate footballers. National pride kicks in as I'm sure is the case with you.

I'm under no illusion we are anywhere near the best out there but as long as we play with heart I'm happy.

Sure.

Yep I know nothing about soccer, never played , certainly never coached a championship HS team.

This thread should picked up steam. It was literally a ghost town a couple of days ago. Lol
