For those that actually follow DC comics...you should know that DC has one of the most messed up continuities.Their flagship hero,Superman is a clear example of how crazy it can get, especially with all the constant retellings of his origin.
This is not saying that Marvel has their issues as well with characters, but I have found that DC has really mixed it up and KEEPS mixing it up after they claim to have set the record straight.
For example with Supes.
-Pre-Crisis Origin: The one we're all familiar with...Kryptonians have bright costumes
-Byrne's "Man of Steel" Origin that straightened things out and lasted for a while.Kryptonians in this wear black "bio-suits" to extend their life and mostly isolate themselves from one another.Superman born in "Birthing Matrix"
-Superman: Birthright Origin which is supposed to be the definitive retelling of his origin.Kryptonians have bright costumes again and the "S" shield is shown to be a national Kryptonian symbol.
-Then before and after I remember seeing a few issues that hint that Superman's origin may be similar to the Pre-Crisis version
-Now we have Richard Donner's comic version that resembles the movie."S" Shield is House of El family crest and Kryptonians are like their movie versions.
So it's pretty mixed-up for Supes...not to mention all the different versions of General Zod as well.
