re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

I know what you're saying.

I work in television, so I understand the fine line they need to tow I. Order to present a balanced and entertaining program.

We collectors tend to know a lot about not just the lines we are passionate about, but toys in general and a lot if what he talks about is pretty much lip service or inane droning to us, lol. But it helps carry the story for the casual viewer.

I don't think he's that bad or even that his prices are so far off. I like the show for archival and reference purposes and would more than likely buy a boxed set of the series when it's over.

What I don't get is that people can't be so computer illiterate that if he flat out tells someone he can get $1200 for something and then offers them $700 and the "haggling" ensues, why that person doesn't just try to sell it themselves, lol.

I agree. The haggling part is a little silly. In this internet age, anyone can put their stuff on ebay and probably get close to the price the toy hunter wants to sell them for. I just enjoy seeing some of the old toys and memorabilia. Jordan bugs me sometimes, but it's a fairly entertaining show.

I have my Death Star from when I was a kid.

I'll never get rid of it.

I also have a beautiful still sealed DS that I'm always on the fence about getting Graded. I think the cost would be over $100 to grade, due to its size.

What are some of your opinions about having items graded???
IF it is something in great condition that you want to sell, then it makes sense. But I wouldn't bother if it was poor condition, or you don't plan on selling it. That being said, large items like that would scare me to ship. I'd be so scared it would get damaged in shipping... If you could drive it to AFA and drop it off, then sure. But I wouldn't want to ship a nice condition sealed DS, personally...

I watch the Toy Hunter, but I hate him.

He would miss handle them, tell you an obvious fact about the toys and then offer you an unrealistic price for them and then claim to sell them for an even more unrealistic price.

Both true statements...
Yes, me and furystorm are gonna be future stars of The Toy Hunter! :yess:

That's the only reason I watch. But I can't stand the guy... F'in scalper!

I just have to keep telling myself that it's all staged. The stuff he's "buying" is either already his or it's been pre-negotiated before the show is even taped. I know personally that this is how it's done on American Pickers and Comic Book Men. True collectors aren't stupid they know what things are worth. The fact that these shows portrays them as so is infuriating. That's why I watch to see cool stuff and that's it. I fast forward through the created reality.

Last episode of TH had me livid when he bought a carded set of Temple of Doom figures for $125 and said that he was going to ask $200. One figure alone goes for $125 and if I could find a carded set if 3 for $200 I wouldn't think twice about buying them. But of course, none of that is realistic.

Now that's a toy aisle! :drool

I want those figures and that jacket.

How is that Undercover, Thom? I had my first Lagunitas in two months last night, an IPA.

Good - it's hoppy and malty. I enjoyed it but don't know if I need another 6.

We watched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade this weekend. My daughter saw George's name in the credits and said "Hey, he created Star Wars." :yess:

Parenting. You're doing it right.

Clever girl. :D

Jurassic Park quoting. You're doing it right.

just wanted to drop in and introduce myself.

First time on these boards, post quite a bid in another forum tho.

I've been collecting SW since trading cards in '77.

I've got a vintage & modern 3 & 3/4" collection as well as too many Sideshow 12" figures.

I went crazy in the begining, having to have both the Exclusive & regular editions and in some cases, doubled up on those.

Now the time has come to pare down this stuff, so if anyone is looking for earlier stuff, let me know.

my whole collection spans several storage units and my frineds on the other board I mentioned earlier dubbed me "The Warden of Paulcatraz."

Hope to participate & contribute in many of the threads here.

thanks for having me :)

Welcome! :duff

Looking forward to seeing/meeting some freaks

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

We play only two of the 5 games at home, but four of the five are against bottom half of the table teams, with the exception being the fixture v Chelsea. Hell of a win for Spurs over City.

COYS!! :hi5:

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Why do Ebay sellers not have a clue about packing items properly?

You must have never bought from me. I go overboard. I buy more than I sell, so I understand the importance of packing... Why is why I'm nervous about the boxed Ewok Village I just bought. I always send a message asking them to pack well to avoid potential damage in shipping. Dunno if that message does any good...

re: (galactiboy's Cantina) "Where everybody knows your name..."

Anyone ever buy a Action - TT Power Illuminated Turntable Figure Stand from Sideshow or elsewhere? I bought one yesterday using the $25 off coupon...

Agreed ! I am just not sure what is a good price for a complete one.

Looks like they average $75-150 depending on how complete and if it had the box. Do you not know how to do a completed eBay search? :p

I'm the same way, you could drop my boxes off a roof and they'd be fine. I just bought a really nicely carded Raiders Belloq and the guy packed it in a box the same exact size as the card. With very little packing material. Thank god it was fine but it could've been a disaster. It just baffles me. Though about 2 months ago I bought a Sallah and the seller shipped it in a Star Case and then packed it in a big box with packing peanuts and the bubble some how managed to wind up with a giant hole in it. Luck of the draw I guess.
