Wow, that's terrible. I mean, it's what he deserves--he brought it on himself. But 4 years is a long time in prison. I can't imagine what his family is going through.

He should have thought about that before he did what he did

I agree, of course. But that's still some tough stuff to get through, especially for the family.

He won't serve 4 years.

Chances are whatever time he does get will be suspended, but he might be on paper for a couple of years.

That's true. Maybe he will get a light sentence (house arrest? probation?) with tons of community service.

He'll do some time but not four years, California has a severe overcrowding problem with their prisons. It's possible he'd do a third of that then finish out with probation, community service and a rehabilitation program. What he'll have to deal with is that after whatever time he does, he'll have to know that he'll be a pariah in the nerd communities, not just Star Wars. This thing has gotten so much press and so much circulation that his name is now forever connected with the theft.

Oh it's going to effect his job prospects in the future too. All these cool projects he said he worked on aren't bringing him back a thief back on. Let's not forget the civil suits that can't be far behind. I have to admit I would love to be a fly on the wall for his first days in prison. Having met him many times I can't see him doing very well. I wonder if that's why he plead guilty that he cut a deal to avoid prison time.

That'd be my guess... not to mention the facts are pretty apparent. It's not like he has much of a defense; so cut a deal and hope he doesn't do as much/any time. But I'd think with the amount involved it's unlikely he'd get away with zero time inside of a cell.

That's true, most likely he'll have to serve some time but cutting a plea deal could get him into a minimum security facility and keep him away from the big boys that'd probably pound his face in for saying the wrong thing. I'm sure they'll be Civil Lawsuits and probably more people coming out of the woodwork because if he was doing this to Sansweet for three years, and Philip for an undisclosed amount of time - I don't see how there probably aren't more. The cool jobs are most definitely gone, he was close to Zack Snyder and Clay Enos and claimed to visit both when they worked on Watchmen, Man of Steel and BvS - who knows if there aren't some superhero things floating around sold by him too.

To be honest... ****** him. I know some of you may know him personally but we're not talking about someone just being stupid for a split second and taking something to keep safe in their possession. Stuff was sold on so it was simply to make a profit. How 'prepared' he is for prison is irrelevant. If he'd gotten away with it the only person to lose out was the original owner who had actually invited him in to his home/museum to new things.

If he hears his lesson then great... rehabilitation is a great end result but if he has to learn that lesson in a very hard way then he's only brought it on himself.

Almost Instant Karma.....agreed.

And in no way do I think the people that were stolen from were not victimized. They were and still are. And I feel terrible for them as I have had a best friend (at the time) steal from me. It's not only the theft that hurts. It's the betrayal. I definitely believe he has a sickness. But now being an uncle of 3 children and seeing how impressionable they are and still so innocent at that stage, it hurts. I still can't help but think his daughter and son are the biggest ones to lose out in all of this. They are the biggest victims. Surprised more focus isn't on that. They didn't ask for this. So Carl has burned a lot of people here. Not just the people who he stole from, that trusted him as a part of their family.

4 years of not having a father and the knowledge that people they know are aware of what he's done. It's gotta suck for them now, and that in itself really pisses me off. He has taken a lot more from them than anyone.

I am really thinking the biggest loser here is his daughter and son. To me, material items are just that... materials. But losing a dad and the knowledge that people know your dad is in jail... it's going to be a tough time for them.

It is... it's heartbreaking for them. It's just another thing he'll have to live with, and even worse, something they will have to live with. I hope people realise that they're completely innocent and shouldn't have that attached to them. But as I said before... it's greed that got him there and the consequences of his actions are very, very real.

Material items or not, they weren't his. He took them and sold them. If they were mine I wouldn't be asking anybody to go lightly on him. I've had things stolen and I'm sure that when the person did it they had zero thought about how I'd feel or whether what they took really meant something to me regardless of it's financial worth... in return I have zero compassion for them or anything that would happen to them.

Thanks for replying to a quote I removed. I changed the wording so I wouldn't be misunderstood. And trust me I can empathize... while I haven't had a 100,000 dollars stolen, I have had ten thousand or more stolen from me in my life. I merely pointed out that there are worse things happening here... and that's how his children will be effected.

I got over the things stolen from me. It took a long time but I even finally forgave those who stole from me.

But this situation with his kids, it could potentially stick with them for life. I know my situation with my father, while it didn't go down like this, had its issues and I am still effected by it till this day. And some of the things that were done, were decades ago. And I am learning that I have the power to change that. It's taking lots of time and effort... but one day I will forgive him as well.

btw I do agree with a lot what you said. And trust me we do agree on how it feels when you're robbed. It's sickening and hurts so much, especially when it comes from someone you trusted so much.

This will nodoubtedly affect his kids. The bizarre positive, if you can call it that, is that he was divorced from his wife who has custody of the kids so at least their living situation won't be affected as bad as let's say he were the only caregiver who is going away for a bit or in a married relationship who would have his way of living severely hindered by losing his job and/or the source of income. It's impossible that his kids haven't heard of this but it is possible they haven't experienced direct bullying or direct issues since Cunningham isn't a rare name.

Either way the ramifications of this will be felt. His daughter and son were nerdy like dear old dad, his daughter even cosplayed as Barb from Stranger Things recently so they'll be hearing about this either directly or indirectly for some time and that's something he'll have to live with.

On a happier note, look at THIS!
