Re: Freaktacular 2014
Congrats on the job! I had to re-read your post twice, when you said "next years avatars" I thought you were involved in the James Caermon project...
For obscure horror, how about The Toxic Avenger (I once knew someone who was involved with the original movie, behind the scenes). There's also C.H.U.D. (Cannabalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers).
If you used the classic Fly (Vincent Price era), I think that would still be good...sure, more common folk might recognize it, but it's still a good inspiration.
In fact, now that I think about it...why not go ahead and include more commonly recognizeable ones? That way folks that are not as versed in horror films (and I'd be one of those...I haven't see probably half the ones most of you have) would recognize figures and understand what's going on, and horror geeks will be thrilled by spotting those more obscure ones.
Just my opinion, anyway.
Hey guys, it's been a while since I visited the thread. A little news.... after 2 months of art tests and interviews, I finally got a new job. At Glu mobile. I'd also like to drop off a little art piece I've been working on. I'm starting on next years avatars sometime soon (that is if people are still interested), and I'm actually doing it in such a way as to benefit my Day Scare idea. I can use your help in this as well actually. I want to start designing characters for the Day Scare, and I need ideas for obsure horror icons to do as toddlers. I don't really want to do a version of Bela Lugosi's dracula, or Freddy or Jason. I'm more interested in things like Ro-Mon from Robot Monster or The Thing from Thing from another world. Characters that the general populace may not know about, but horror geeks like us would totally recognize. Thanks for the help guys (and gals), counting the days till next spook.
