Re: Freaktacular 2015

Actually you are right... it would be kind of easy to make one close to my sig. I know the old SLU helmets fit the 3 3/4 scale SW figures because I put my Buccaneers one on my removable helmet Vader but I wonder if I could find one to go the other way.... hummmmmm....

Doooo it! ;)

Re: Freaktacular 2015

I think that's the expensive part.... getting the figure for each character from each movie. :horror
But that would make an amazing display. New Hope Han, Hoth Han, Bespin Han, Endor Han, etc. Geez! :lol

What did we get ourselves into? At this point, a cocaine addiction would be cheaper.

:lol So very true. It could get ugly moving forward!

I got the Legendary Yoda. I got them to pricematch TRU for $129.99 AND use the 25% off coupon on top of that, and used my Target RedCard of course. So I paid $97.50. Not bad for a $180 item! I also got the 6" two-pack exclusive. I can't find Phasma anywhere, but I scored the rest of wave 2 yesterday.

How's Yoda? I picked up the $199.99 Toys R Us exclusive remote controlled R2-D2 when it came out last week, and then returned him a few days later. :lol It would've been the next day, but I had to wait due to work. I wasn't expecting an actual R2 unit, but this one left a lot to be desired for the cost. At $99.99 it may have been more worthwhile, but for $200, he lacks a lot of features.

There was one that came out YEARS ago that I wish I'd gotten. R2 reacted to the names of characters from the movies when you said them and such. Same price and all. This one just beeps a lot, and it says that there are thousands of options or something along those lines, and yet, they're all basic. It's like programming him to move forward, then left, then forward, then back. And then another would be forward, then left, then RIGHT, then back. Ooooo!

And his turning was terrible. SUPER wide turns. We have a small space to begin with, but even if I brought this to my parent's house where they have hardwood floors, I'd still be hard pressed to see him make a full turn with how wide he takes them. He also doesn't work on carpet AT ALL. That's not something that's fully expected, but when BB8 from Sphero costs the EXACT same price and can roll around everywhere, it's sad to see R2 chugging and wobbling every step and almost falling over when on fairly smooth carpeting.

I'm sure there are ways to spin him around easier, or control him better (the controls were odd to me, as there was no forward and back, left, right...just forward/left mixed together, and forward/right mixed together. Odd.) but there was just nothing to him and right away I didn't feel like he was $200 well spent. Usually I'll find ways of justifying it if I really like something, and I did want an R2 that I could control and enjoy like BB8. Again, maybe at $99 it would've been decent enough, but for $200, this wasn't the droid I was looking for.

Ended up ordering the 10.5" one from the Disney store yesterday for $30US ($40 Canadian) and he'll tide me over with his chirping and fun movements until a better, larger remote controlled one is released.

Re: Freaktacular 2015

I almost picked up one of those R2's but the price tag stopped me. My wife was more interested in the AT-AT but it was still expensive for what it is.

Yeah, there's just not enough to go along with it. At this point, it needs the interaction with the owner to make it worthwhile. There's voice programming, but I'm talking about how they had it before, but even better because it's seven or so years in the future now! He should react to things you say, so even if he's just sitting beside you, you can go back and forth with him -- even if it's just for your own amusement! That'd be worthwhile to me.

As is, he's just overpriced. I didn't look at what the AT-AT does, but I'm guessing it's a remote controlled AT-AT? Yeah, that'd be cool, but they're definitely up there in the cost for what they are. Playing with BB8, you feel like he's got a personality and you feel that you're getting your $200 worth...that's something this R2 was lacking.

Re: Freaktacular 2015

I've seen the tie fighter in my stores for about a month, but no way in hell was I planning on buying that huge thing. I don't have the space. I'm done with vehicles, even the small scale ones. No more!

I actually ended up returning mine. It was way larger than I was anticipating, and there was no place I could display it. As a TIE fighter it was very cool, just not for me. I'm trying to figure out how I want TFA displayed in my collection. I'm really eyeing some of the HT figures.

I didn't open my Yoda yet. I'll do it next weekend, when I can devote some time to playing with it. I've been too busy... I have the old voice activated R2 you are referring to. Yes, it is very awesome!
I also bought the Disney Store electronic R2 that's out now. It is 25% off with free shipping on disneystore.com through today ($22.50 + tax shipped) using coupon DISNEYPAL

Re: Freaktacular 2015

Shawpaw, I got the custom Mikey in today! It looks incredible! You did an excellent job on it. Hopefully you run more contests with the other turtles and I win them too! :lol

Yeah, that's how I ordered it too. Sent it to my father-in-law, as the shipping to Canada bumped it too high. Good price that way though for what I want right now! I honestly don't understand how they went BACKWARDS from the R2 they did years ago! This one is so generic and the same cost...it should've gone ahead! Hopefully Yoda is cool for you! I have an older Yoda that's about 10" tall and tells the stories of the original trilogy...pretty awesome. :)

Any pictures of that Tie Fighter? I'm intrigued to see what the fuss is about! :lol

Let me know what you are looking for for them. What paints do you use? Do you pull them all apart first before painting?

I'm up for a Obi Wan 1/6 on Chicky's twitter. I'm Padawan #4. Votes are tallied by likes on the padawan # posts.
