I GOT MINE TODAY!!!
wooohoooo!!!
fedex actually delivered the bust yesterday but i wasn't at home to receive it. so i arranged for them to resend it today.
the first thing that struck me was the box was enormous. it was over 3 feet in height, but pretty light. everything was very securely packed, so kudos to fred for putting in the extra effort to ensure the piece wouldn't be damaged. the shipper box contained a smaller box suspended inside, braced by foam wedges. then inside, the bust was surrounded by thick layers of bubble wrap and loads of styrofoam popcorn. the bust itself was wrapped like a mummy in rolls and rolls of clingwrap. it took me a good 15 minutes to finish unwrapping robo. i wanted to be very careful to avoid any damage. to my relief, the bust was indeed very well-protected and was in perfect condition.
first impressions: this. thing. is. MASSIVE. it literally dwarfed all the other life-size busts and helmets in my living room.
to be honest though, i'm not 100% satisfied with the piece i got. after all that waiting, all the anticipation and the non-communication, i was expecting something a little closer to perfection. don't get me wrong: this is a brilliant piece and worth the money paid. it's just that the paintwork on mine leaves a bit to be desired. there is a slight orange peel effect on the right side of robo's helmet, and a strange wavy line around his visor on the left side. it's quite noticeable, even from a distance. for all the claims of high-quality automotive-level paintwork, i wouldn't expect these kinds of quirks. and the paint slop between the face and the jawguard is pretty obvious. i can touch it up myself, but i shouldn't have to, considering how expensive this piece is.
overall, if i were to give it a rating, it'd be a solid 8/10. could've been a 10/10 if not for the paint issues.
will post pics as soon as i've got some spare time this weekend or so. just wanted to share my first thoughts here with you guys...
