This is probably where the mix up with BBTS and their original pricing happened. If you price the Ripley figure at $90, and the Power Loader that was originally at $140? at BBTS, they add up to just about the going price for the complete set now.

Hot Toys could just have easily decided to NOT include Ripley in which everyone complained that $250 was unfair. My ED-209 was $200 and did not include working loading light and fully articulated legs (just the arms). They threw in a variant Ripley valued at about $50-$60 to justify the value. I'm not complaining about it.

And some are satisfied to easy. The US collectors sometimes forget, that international and EU collectors pay a lot more than they do. I nearly payed $150 for Ripley, taxes and shipping included (and I'm not blaming SSC for shipping costs and taxes btw, just saying it the way it is...). If I would have known that the power loader came with a Ripley, I could have saved me some serious money. The extra accessories and the jacket don't really make me feel better about this.
Of course I can always return the boxed Ripley to Sideshow. Make someone happy that's on the wait-list or something.

But that aside, I'm glad they saw that $250 was to much for the PL alone, and that they included a Ripley to justify the high price tag.

Look at it this way, would you rather they had stuck with the original plan and NOT have included her? They upgraded the set at no extra cost. What's the problem?

You definitely need TWO Ripleys: one in full gear, and one to go in the PL. I was already planning to build one for the PL but I'm glad I don't have to.

And with this news, I just placed my pre-order. :rock

Seriously cool.

But how can Hot Toys do this yet Sideshow still won't adjust the price of the plastic PF Fett? Hmm...

Why would they adjust the price, again?

Remember, polystone is no less plastic than ABS.
"No less plastic"? Arguable. A heavier, denser and more expensive material... YES. And that is the entire point.

For instance, if the Koto statues were made of Polystone instead of Vinyl and ABS they would probably be $150-200 instead of $80-100.

You think Gentle Giant would get $50 for each mini-bust if they were made from ABS? Wait, don't answer that... we already know most diehard GG collectors will buy anything. :lol

You guys with the "but they are both plastic" mantra are completely missing the point. Are gold and aluminum not both metals? So something made from gold should be about the same price as something made from aluminum I guess?

So let me get this right. The Power Loader will not be available without Ripley? Stores like Alter Ego Comics still advertise as figure sold seperately.

For the purpose in question (making an armored PF), ABS is the preferred material. And its usage is so much more complicated than polystone (which is a cold-cast material) that no, it's not at all less expensive to use.

I'm frankly baffled by this kind of insistence on using polystone for purposes that it's not suited for. (It's great for capturing intricate detail in a sculpt, but not for much more simply-shaped armor in a mixed-media figure.) It's not at all as if Sideshow has promised us gold and is delivering aluminum; we're getting exactly the best material for the job, just as we got polystone when that happened to be the best material for the job.

It's not like Fett is going to feel like a Mattel toy all of a sudden. If anything, SS has invested years of R&D into making armored figures; and noone complained about the material used on Vader, but now that Fett is benefitting from the second stage of that R&D, there is this hue and cry about their going cheap on us. This just doesn't square with the physics and chemistry of the matter on hand.

And look -- I'm not trying to make you buy Fett or anything. I've been just as concerned as the next guy to find out what exactly are they charging us for, and I've found my answers, and I thought they were valid. Hope they convince you too, and if not, well, good hunting...
