Wow! Everyone who has one should start polishing theirs, and it will actually get that "new car" look.

I will try and get pics - its actually a birthday present for my brother (whom I still live with). I managed to find an ebay seller who had them at a reasonable price AND had opened it and inspected it.

Hi there. Greetings from Finland. I ordered my very first Sideshow life size bust, the Iron Man. Hopefully it arrives in good condition with good paint and all, since it would be awful task to send it back.

I rubbed like hell, there is really a big layer of paint on the bust. Uneven paint, blackspots,.. it'll all come off. At the end my towel whas black/bordeaux.

Before i polished the bust it whas like a dust magnet. And when i tried to remove the dust there whas more. And now the dust just falls of.

I had one fingerprint on his ear --> gone.

If i had another IM bust, i'll do it again.

Just tried it today on my bust and just want to warn anyone who might want to do the same. Be gentle and change the cloth once it starts to blacken. The black particles combined with the rubbing can strip the paint, especially on the gold faceplate. Have a gap about 1 inch in diameter on the face now.

Try some T-cut to fix it

As i've wrote in a previous post. Be gentil on the faceplate. The paint is not as thick as the red parts.
Offcourse i don't now wich products you use. So i can tell only how i did it with my products.

Hi I used a car polish but not the brand you used as they don't carry it here. I was gentle and spent 3 hours plus on just the head and shoulders.believe the prob was the black particles that rub on the paint that can remove the paint.

mine just started to peel...the red inside the neck area has started to crack...and I also have this white aura on it that I thought was dust...its not....I am trying to replace it now with the store I bought it from.

Hey guys. Just returned after dropping off the bust to get it repainted by a friend. After careful examination of the bust under his led torchlight, I believe that there is a layer of black paint on the bust.

The paint I believe is meant to make the red and gold look a shade darker. The problem is that it wasn't applied well hence the uneven look. When car polish is used a layer of that paint is removed.

The danger and problem lies in the uneveness of the paint. This is important when polishing the bust as some areas of black are thicker than others. If you overdo one area, you risk taking off the red or gold off the bust as well.

So if you try this, be very slow, use very little polish at a time and don't overdo it.

Hope this helps someone.

James.

So I guess SS only took their time and did the job right on this 1 bust....look how perfect that paint job is!
Its obvious it even has a good layer of clear coat...this is how all these busts should have come out, it isnt hard to do something like this. I've been in the car business for years, and I've seen amature car painters do a better job than the bust that was sent to me.
Im debating if I should order another one from SS and get it painted properly....but I dont want to dump more money into an already over priced bust. I cant see these things going up in value at ALL having all that bad press following this thing. So should I wait for them to come down in price to get one and repaint...or buy now cause prices may always stay about the same for this thing.

Chris

It is one of the coolest busts out there it is a pity SS made such a mess of it. Luckily mine is pretty much perfect or as perfect as this bust can be.

Here's a pic of the faceplate with the paint loss. :monkey2
