Just got out.

My fear from day one after they announced Hemsworth as the main antagonist was that he was miscast.

Unfortunately my fears came true.

He just did not cut it for me.

He was a weak villain with almost impossible. dialogue to comprehend although his final scene with Furiosa was very well done.
Agreed. Though I think I like him a little more than you. He was just kinda meh.
Anya was the standout she really was mesmerizing and unlike Hemsworth was perfectly cast as Furiosa.

Her eyes were striking and she stood out with a very good performance.
I love her almost alien look. I really fell for when she admitted she was kinda funny looking. :lol
The “solid snake” looking character that I was not expecting to be in this movie was also very well done.

I almost liked him more as a Max type character than Harding.
I thought he looked like a young Stacy Keach

I thought they were going somewhere with his connection to Furiosa but it didn’t pan out as I was hoping.

Furioss’s final vehicle is spectacular sounding.
Yep. Good sound
Immortan Joe literally sounded like Bane wtf lol
lol. Another “mediocre” villain
The way she lost her arm was very anti-climatic.

The movie definitely has pacing issues due to its runtime and for a quick moment there it got a little boring.
Shave off a 1/2 hour and it’s a much more solid film.
Fury Road was better paced…MUCH BETTER!
Yep
Don’t get me wrong there were some very good parts and great looking long distance desert visuals.

The cgi did bug me. :crying
When the end credits rolled and showed scenes from fury road it really hit home how annoying the CGI was in this film.
Her final scene didn’t work for me it was rushed just to set up Fury Road there was no need for that.
Yep. Uneeded for sure.
Look I didn’t hate the movie not at all but what’s that famous saying…

A movie is only as good as its villain allows it to be, and their lies my problem.
Agreed
I will not be returning to the cinema to watch this like I did with Dune 2. :horror

So the question everybody wants to know, is it better than Thunderdome?

The answer to that is…..

Yes.
lol. Yep. I tried watching that recently. Got about 40 min into it and never returned.

Solid film. Nowhere near The Road Warrior

Bring back Mel

The movie has left a good feeling in my mind as time passes, you know a whole 7 days lol

I have softened up on my initial disappointment with pretty boy Hemsworth because of the other elements I found to be enjoyable.

You are right a young Stacey Keach I couldn’t place my finger on it while watching it but wow it’s very close.

I guess it’s different enough from FR to make for an enjoyable prequel which is no easy task to pull off.

Furiosa isn't just bigger, it has me thinking about it after the fact much more deeply than I ever do after watching Fury Road. So if your scale is on which is the tighter more well oiled machine with an explosive finale then Fury Road definitely has the edge. Furiosa tries different things, not all executed perfectly, but gave me a deeper appreciation of the story, world, and characters that I was following which is why I rate it higher.
Hmmmmm.

My initial feelings about both films after seeing them was disappointment.

I Thought FR was too hyped and overrated but I enjoy it a bit more now.

Furiosa let me down cause of the obvious CGI which lessened some of the action and the villains being only ok.

Neither film had me thinking much after it lol.

I won’t be too harsh cause I did enjoy it. But I’ll have to wait for repeat viewings to give it an honest review.

It’s cool my two fav actresses ever played the same character

Has anyone mentioned...

the "motorcycle conductor" MM1 callback?
So here are my list of nods...
1. The whistle (Thunderdome)

2. Squint: the one eyed guys "hair" was a total tribute to Toe Cutter.

3. They actually mention The Humungus!

4. Obviously Max,
A. Was that pre FR interceptor???
B. Was it implied Mad saves Furiosa?

5. Scrotus and Chum bucket from the game.

What else did you see??

You and I were pretty much the only 2 with less than impressed sentiments with Fury Road on this forum but I see that both of us have also recently softened our stance on it.

For some Furiosa made them appreciate Fury Road more because Furiosa was worse in their eyes.

For me Furiosa made me appreciate Fury Road more not because Furiosa is worse but because Furiosa compliments Fury Road and seems like a good companion piece that can be watched back to back although for that to happen they will have to remove those tacked on Fury Road scenes at the end credits .

I also don’t think they needed to show Furiosa taking the wives at the end although now i’m even conflicted on that lol

Yeah showing the taking of the wives and Fury Road credit montage does spoil a fair amount for future viewers who watch them in chronological order for the first time.

Really? They show that? Talk about "dovetailing".

With a new actress, you definitely need a little room between films -- at least 3 years.

The same amount of time Lucas gave Mark's face.

Well we only see Furiosa in shadow for that scene, at which point it does look quite a bit more like Charlize. But it's still not really clear how much time has passed, and like others say I don't think it was necessary. Because obviously we know what happens to the character next.

Although I will say it was cool seeing Zoe's character again.

The movie has multiple time jumps with the main portion not taking place immediately before Fury Road but yeah it does kind of go full Rogue One with the lead-in to the next film at the very end.

Oh. I had imagined the bulk of the new movie took place years before she was Imperator and before she lost her arm.

So Dementus dies only days/weeks before the events of Fury Road?

Well it's not entirely clear when Dementus dies (which you'll understand more after watching the movie), but FR does seem to take place at least a few years after the main events of Furiosa and their final battle.

I do think how they did it looked great you’re right about the shadow part.

I just thought it was a little too abrupt to all of a sudden show that but ultimately it didn’t hurt the movie either

But those Fury Road clips need to go ASAP!

Perhaps, but I think I'd still recommend a newbie watch Fury Road first before Furiosa, as I think FR works better when you go in cold not knowing anything about the character yet or that she will end up being this unexpected, badass hero. And it would also ruin the cool reveal when you find out this isn't a normal fuel run at the beginning and she's instead smuggling out Joe's brides and betraying him.

Great point about the bride reveal part being ruined in Fury Road I didn’t even think of that.

By my count, 5 time skips.

Initial one with taking if Furiosa,

Another jump where Dementus and Joe meet.

Another to Taylor Joys intro.

Another to her and her relationship with Jack

Then the final one to the beginning of FR.

Pretty much in line with the chapters.
