All things considered, this image leads me to think this figure has no sculpted neck, which would mean the new body.

I think you're right. With the beard and long hair, it would give the head a little more posing possibilities.

What a great sculpt!

The unpainted sculpt shows just how perfect that sculpt is!!

I already have visions of what Josh and Les and Mickey could do with that sculpt:monkey5

I think the painted sculpt looks great, the SSC painters really captured him with the paint job and it only enhances the sculpt.

Looking at the bare sculpt, it seems promising also that the hair and beard will be a softer material allowing for flexibility/poseability.

The production blog said that this print is on Gandalf's culottes. I don't know what a cullotte is though.

Good call bro... I hadn't even noticed that and I've been looking real hard for any indications of a new body.

I think SS kept the old wrist adapter so they can keep the old hands ( :monkey2 ) but changed the base neck but hopefully like HT it can be switched out for a head/neck combo and not just a sculpted head.

Correct but I don't think we will see Gandalf that early considering the arrival of the hobbits has yet to come.:monkey2

New base bodies for them all, it would seem, so it'll take a little longer than normal since they're not slapping figures onto the same old body anymore.

I must say that adding that little detail in is quite impressive. You don't really see the culottes in the films because the costume has so many layers and even in close up photos of the Gandalf the Grey costume (or in person looks at the costume) you don't really see the culottes so this little added touch of detail is quite impressive to me.

If the new body is going to be available for Indy (which I would imagine would ship mid-year), why WOULDN'T they use it on Gandalf? In all honesty, I fully expect every figure scheduled for 3rd quarter and on to use it (well, the ones that qualify ... not sure if the new female body will appear at the same time). Once Indy busts open the door on this post-Buck era, I hope we look forward, not backwards.

But, once again, I blame Sideshow PR for most of this controversy. How hard would it have been before the PPO to say, "due to increased manufacturing cost and lower manufacturing units (or insert whatever reasoning), the next Lord of the Rings figure will have an increased MSRP. But, don't worry, it will be worth it." See, how hard is that? They didn't even have to give away the specific figure or price point. Just some advanced warning to get us over the sticker shock of ordering. The lack of info on pricing (esp. from a company like SSC which prides itself on and advertises "connection" to the collectors) comes off to me as "they will pay whatever we ask, it's not worth our time to discuss it." Yeah, and that attitude went over really well during Plasticfett Gate. If the price increase is necessary, be honest with us and explain it ... or at the very least warn us of it. If you don't respect us enough to do that, why should we give a damn about your company?

Douglas, I think some of your expectations are a little rediculous. I can't think of any group, be it collectibles, restaurants, gas stations, that announce price hikes. If the news didn't mention gas/oil hikes, we'd all pull into a pump, look at the price and drop jaws worse than now at the prices. Price varitions happen and don't require advanced notice. When you go to buy something, it has a price tag and you decide you want it or not.

Just to point out that another 12" figure that went sale this weekend was $50. So it's safe to say that they aren't just uniformly increasing prices but are more tailoring the price to the figure. Of course The Dead are going to be cheaper due to the lack of a license to be paid. But aside from that it's pretty obvious that there's a lot of work in Gandalf.

But the amount of accessories and the license fee aren't the only thing that go into pricing. It's also about the edition size. They've realized that LotR just doesn't sell as well as other lines, and the fewer that are sold the more each individual piece must cost.

It's all about the math.

I try not to be too rah-rah Sideshow, but I have to say that seeing all this negativity over a kick-ass figure is a bit depressing.

I ordered one.. Not a doll guy but I have 2 Gremlin hiding up in the rafters of my office.

So this will be my third doll.. Looking forward to playing with my new friend.

I happily pay for quality.. Quit being cheap and complaining..
