The costume on this is just beautiful. But I agree regarding the beard. Tweak that and he'll look good. Indy and Robocop are pushing this into third place at the moment though. Not sure if I'll order this one right away or not.

HAHA! My thoughts exactly choopie. I'm DEFINITELY tempted by the Robocop PF...and the Indy is a no brainer. I really like this Gandalf...I was planning on it being my first PF from the LOTR series...will wait to see more photos at SDCC...but I do like it so far. Just with all the other great stuff coming out...I may have to pass...we'll see.

The costume is very inricate and detailed. It looks fantastic. Still something odd about the sculpt and pose though. Just need to see floor pics from the Con.

It looks like him...but its too dollish for me...sowy...:monkey3

I agree DD but also like many others have stated the head is not right looks too big or out of proportion to the body or something? May just be this camera angle/lighting but I don't know its not quite what I expected. Yes the costume looks great but i would expect that on a PF and esp at whatever price this is going to retail at? $350/300??? And that cloak is going to be a bi*ch to keep clean!!!! :rotfl

nice costume - headsculpt???

Not so good IMO...

I still think that the beard and head looks wierd, and it looks like he's wearing some kind of apron:confused:

Advice to SS : Keep the ES small, you haven't gotten rid of all your Frodo's yet and I'm sure you don't want a whack of these sitting around your warehouse for the next two years....at least judging from the overall reaction so far.

Looks like the consensus is that the head needs work. Green Dragon said the same thing. It looks a little on the large side to me, but I'm still liking it. Hopefully SSC tweaks it a little before release.

egad... the problem is Gandalf has a chicken neck. The pose/stance he's in, I don't get it. And yes, as Woodsy remarked, seeing the sword handle bent off at an angle from the blade in prototype pics??!! This is supposed to be the best representation of it!

This is what I've been waiting for 1.5 years? :monkey4

I'll stick to my Gandalf on Shadowfax.

On the plus side, seeing Sam and Frodo 12" (do we really still call them that, even though they're more like 8?) has pushed me into gettting into that line with both feet.

Beren

looks better then the up close pic but still something keeping me from jumping up and down for this. :monkey1

It looks like the psoe is taken from when is walking into Minis Tirith, maybe even Denethor's hall. Looks like he is walking fast with a purpose, so the pose isn't such a huge issue for me. The costume work looks amazing, and I can't wait to see the detail up close. The head looks like a nice likeness, but the mustache is just a little on the bushy side. Otherwise, I don't have many complaints, but I try to keep things optimistic!

Looks okay, but I need to see more pics to decide to get him.

Overall, it just doesn't jump out at me.

I've been pleasantly surprised, and often wowed, by most of today's announcements...

...except for this one.

This is almost uniformly bad. Bad likeness, bad proportions, bad stance, and an overall lack of class and dignity I'd expect of Gandalf the White. And it's not only the head and beard -- I can't see what they were going for with the pose, and the way the clothes flap around the base (and go below it) just makes the overall appearance messy.

And the worst thing is that this piece spent over a year in the approval process. It reeks of being designed by a committee.

Oh well, at least the LS bust was golden.

I've been looking at it for a while, trying to figure out what was "off" to me, and I think I've figured it out. You know how supermodels stop when they reach the end of the runway and strike a pose? That's what this pose looks like to me. It looks posed, as opposed to a "freeze-frame" that creates a sense of motion, of action.

And the worst thing is that this piece spent over a year in the approval process. It reeks of being designed by a committee.
Another good point. Too many cooks often spoil the broth.

Indeed it is, Vlad. Indeed it is.
