is gandalf weathered at all  dunno if its just the flash but he looks pretty clean to me, i remember in the film hes pretty dirty in that scene. those mines aint clean :lecture

I think the flash unnaturally lights up the robe. If you look at Dino's natural light photos, the robe appears much darker and while the robe is too clean, the shadowing helps mitigate that problem. The foot/whip is a little strange, but I think because the horns appear segmented already by the paint scheme, the seam doesn't seem that bad (hey, it was there).

I think to even closely admiring observers and casual collectors alike, these things will go unnoticed. Mine is still in the box, but short of something being broken, I think it's a keeper. Now, I know collectors have vastly different standards, so please take my comments for what they are worth.

I was SO looking forward to this piece until I saw it at Con last year. Didn't like Gandalf then and, unfortunately, still don't. :monkey2

Would love to know why they didn't go with him stabbing the 'Rog in the chest.
Seems like a no-brainer to me as that would make it so much more powerful and iconic.
:dunno

I hear you as my wife caught on to this and she really has no interest in this line.....With the current Gandalf, its like he is holding on for dear life...
Oh well.......

That's what I do! :D

Same here, never been sure why people think otherwise???

Well for me it's because i prefer sculpted statues, it's just a personal taste. Dolls - figures, whatever - don't do anything for me and while i like the idea of PF, there's only been 2 or 3 i've liked the look of but not enough to actually buy, seeing as how i have them represented in another way, like a statue. Same goes for the LSB's. If they did a cool one of, say, Mouth of sauron or fountain guard, it may be too good to refuse. But i don't see the need to pay the kind of money to get essentially bigger versions of busts i already have, and if i did they'd stick out a bit in my collection!
Diorama's are different to me because, as they're polystone, they fit in with my display ideas more. It's like a continuation. And they work well together with the SSW statues. On the one hand, we have basically character studies, lone statues showing off the weapons, armour and costume. And on the other hand, actual polystone renditions of actual scenes from the movie. It's like saying 'Here are the characters, here's what they look like, and here is what they done!'

I don't want to be passive-aggressive so...

Your comment about your wife seems to be aimed at my "closely admiring observers' comment. What exactly did she catch? And Gandalf is holding on for dear life, because he's falling. In actuality, in The Fellowship of the Ring, the Balrog fell first followed by Gandalf. There was no encounter during the fall so the entire diorama is a "flight of fantasy" so it's kind of hard to be wrong. Since some folks seem to be into details, Gandalf's robe was actually brown and clean. Before he fell, he was clinging to the bridge remnant, so as he slipped and fell, the front of his robe got dirty which wouldn't be readily seen on the diorama. So even if SSC had dirtied up the robe, they'd have still been wrong. Sometimes you just can't win;)

I had to go back to see to what you were refering and yes, I agree; I too buy what I like.

 I think Frodo's "dream" can/should be considered what happened.

Just got it today and I really like it. Had trouble attaching and detaching one of the wings, but it is an excellent sculpt. I kinda wished balrog was upright, I imagine it is the daddy rog upside down. Gandalf can be there or not, he is incidental to the sculpt really, but certainly adds context to the dio. The only complaint really is the way gandalf is attached to the horn because you can see the seam on the horn, but overall I'm happy with it and glad I got it.

Here is mine.

Fantastic collection and display. Glad to see some more pics and to hear from another collector who is satisfied with this dio. Glamdring on your Gandalf piece looks fairly straight; did it arrive bent at all? My was severely bent and is still not straight after some adjusting on my part.

No. No problems with the sword on my gandalf PF. Did you try heating it up with a blow dryer before trying to make it straight?

Sorry, I was referring to the Gandalf from the Duel of Light and Fire diorama; Glamdring was bent pretty badly; you can even see it in the pics I posted earlier on this thread.

classy set up fremen, nice cat aswell :rock arent black cats supposed to bring bad luck though :lol

Hmmm...I didn't notice it being bent when I set it up. I'll have another look tonight.

I have 5 black cats and 1 black and white one. I'll admit, the last year has been one of the worst years of my life but I feel my cats are lucky. They bring me much happiness. :)

Dang Fremen, when I saw your collection, it took me a minute to get my chin off of my keyboard. You have an awesome collection. Where did you set it up, in a spare bedroom? You're giving me incentive to clean up all the computer equipment in my office and put up shelves.

Awww thanks.

I don't want to turn this thread into a my collection thread but yes, that is a spare room.

I'm also working on decorating the basement with this stuff as well and there is a lot down there too.

That spare room is a cool place to just sit on the floor with a coffee and hang out. Even my cats like hanging out in there.

Those are just like the shelves i saw on holiday in a shop, just what i want! Good lighting too, and can fit in different sized statues....do you mind if i ask where you got them?
