I love the idea of a re-release, however compared to figures today, the detail on the Kenner figure was never that crisp. Blowing it up in size just exaggerates this. :cuckoo:

True, true.

35 years later and still one of the best A L I E N sculpts out there.

Agreed, I might still get this if I see more photos. The main thing that gets me now is that split seam on the Alien's upper lip, but that could just be an issue isolated to the figure they have on display.

Giger himself had said that the Kenner alien was n amazingly faithful representation of his design...it's definitely one of the best

Especially around the face...

Probably didn't want to do a 1:1 of the original Kenner figure so as not to devalue it.

I doubt that's a concern that's even on their radars. Re-releasing toys isn't unheard of. Hasbro did it in a huge way (GI Joe), Hasbro/Kenner has already done it with Star Wars, Mattel does it (Barbie, Hot Wheels, etc) other companies have done it with countless products that are among the most collectable toy lines that exist.

I'm certain toy companies care very little for the miniscule number of people who might be shopping for a vintage Kenner "Alien" on eBay, let alone care what they are valued at by the tiny number of people who might have them on their shelves. And if there is a concern they can add some clarifying mark to the tooling (like the GI Joe line had '40th" stamped on them).

In any case, cool idea, but a failure to me being that's it's a bit too large for easy display. A repro would have been more desirable in repro box with a large number of collectors. And we don't all live in 10,000 square foot homes with unlimited display space for 24 inch statues.

I agree the size thing will hold people back. It's definitely held me back from a maybe to a no sale. It's a fun idea, but the original was large enough to begin with. It's not like the Gentle Giant people doing the upscaled 3 3/4 SW figures.

It's probably some weird licensing thing that doesn't allow them to recreate it 1:1. But even if they went down in size to maybe somewhere in the 12"-16" range, that would have worked better, IMO.

This is a Must Pass for me even though this is the one toy that really intrigued me when I was little.
Maybe if the credit card balances were lower and I saw nothing else I wanted at SDCC I would bite.
But I need to stick to my focus (statues and replicas)

I like it a lot. At one time I had 5 of the 18" kenner Alien when I started collecting vintage action figures. So buying this.

Whoa, how did I miss this? Never owned the original. Always wanted one, but didn't want to pay the money for one mint. I wonder what the packaging of this will look like? I think that may be the deciding factor for me. Would be fun to own this, even though it will be larger.

I read somewhere the packaging would be a replica of the original '79 box.

Is there a pic of all these jumbo things lined up?

I still think the Jumbo SW stuff is silly. :lol

Most people are keeping them in the package, but I do remember Han and Chewie being out of scale. Here's a couple shots from RS.

Nice! :clap

Has there been any news on this one since SDCC? Price? Release date? I don’t keep up to date with Gentle Giant stuff because they rarely release anything I’m interested in.

Apologies to anyone who thought the bump was news :monkey3

After the Wampa price reveal, I bet the gouging on this will take wind out of a lot of sails.

Exactly. No reason this should be much more that the current 1/4 figures. I remember picking up their 18" Alien a few years ago for $40.
