I think this is a neat SDCC exclusive, but I still can't get over the $500 price tag on this or the regular version. I don't know if NECA got the rights to 1/6 scale 12" ALIEN figures so Gentle Giant had to go to a bigger scale, but this would have been much better if it was half the size and less than half the price. Don't know how many they can sell, especially when the 12" Star Wars figures are only $80 each.

I was looking through the Monsterpalooza photos on twiter and saw some from GG. Can anybody identify these two pieces with their up coming Alien or are they possibly something coming up from GG themselves?

The life-size sculpt of the person getting victimized by the face hugger is a Life-Size bust offered by Black Heart Enterprises, a very exciting company offering top-notch Life-Size sculpts.

The sculpt is name COLONIST

For the money GG is charging for these, I think the packaging/presentation should be more upscale. Just a regular box with a little embossing and a clam shell interior? They should have went the Hot Toys MMS route.

I'd take it for free, to sell for funds for something I really want. :lecture

They always charge a lot for their SDCC Exclusives. Last year was the Honey Trap that Everyone complained about.
It still Sold Out and Now sells for a nice premium.
People will bash this continuously but the same thing will happen in the end for this too.

I read in this article that Diamond is doing a reproduction of the 18" original. Will definitely be cheaper than GG's version, but whether the quality will be there is another question. Definitely curious about it though.

Actually, that is misinformation. Whether Diamond and Gentle Giant are affiliated, or simply working together I don't know, but the figure mentioned is really the 24". There is no 18" reproduction coming from Diamond separately. This is it. If you always wanted the Kenner Alien, this is really your only chance to own one that's not currently suffering the ravages of time, lol.

It looks like some big ticket item thing I could have won at Chuck E Cheeses back in the 80s.

This is garbage. Will wait until the standard-painted version inevitably becomes cheaper.

The Glow-in-the-Dark version? Yes, it's appallingly awful. I don't get it at all. I'd be lying though, if I said I wasn't eying the regular version - even at it's $450.00 price, lol. I don't really go for any of the large Sideshow pieces, but something about that 24" Kenner figure encapsulates so much about that late 70's time period... Whether or not the price goes down will probably depend on how many they made - and I suspect they're keeping that number under close watch.

Their prices typically drop after some time (I'm apparently not the only one that's apprehensive when buying oversized retro figures), so I'll go ahead and wait. If I miss out, no big deal. If it dips to $200 or below, it's mine.

$500, though. What are they smoking? :lol:rotfl:lol:rotfl

Didn't they buy that original Kenner Alien off Jordan Hembrough for like $600 or something? :lol

How many did they make of this 24" figure? There are four versions, right? Regular, glow, silver, gold...

Dunno....ultimately i think it'll be based upon the orders, but who knows. Here are some comparisons to my original

... For size....it's actually taller than the jakks godzilla by like 2 inches

Quality construction, nice shiny plastic, vs the flat look....

But no poseable wrists like the original, and the paint job is different...doesn't mimic the "lit from above" look with I prefer, however it's still very cool...the original had a tinted dome, but I think the sample given to them was a repro, but I didn't get a great look at it, so I'm not sure, but it's the only reason I could t of that they'd do a clear dome.....

On the other hand, clear is more correct since it was moisture that fogged it up in the feature....
The msrp is pretty high so I recommend finding good deals cuz they are out there if you can haggle....they aren't moving very fast so haggling is much easier.....
