Here's the final version shown at Toy Fair 07, photo from Rebelscum.

I feel better about getting the pre-order now.

Don't you judge me Shropt! Check out this PM from him yesterday!

Hi Ryan,
As you know the Emma Frost is shipping soon. How much do you think a custom repaint would cost to finally make my "Crying Game" maquette?

It's a nice looking statue still. The breast size is just funny though as Carrie is just not that big. I about laughed my ass off back at SDCC last year.

Did GG state that THIS was the revised prototype? It looks exactly like the one from SDCC last year to me, personally; if only they could show us the butt. The butt is where the tale of the tape will be....

If this gets to us intact, it WILL be the coolest bit of SW merchandise ever, won't it?

-AH!

Different angle (head on)...
I think it'll be interesting. It's my first GG (and possibly my last :D ) but I couldn't pass up what should be (as Atom corectly states) "the coolest bit of SW merchandise ever".:google

I think the combination of the angle, lighting, and different background make the GG product photo look a little bit "off". But, just change the background to make it more consistent with the Toy Fair pic, and much of that difference goes away:

The background certainly helps but the paintjob is attrocious and is what is definitely messing up a fantastic sculpt. All of that orange in the joints and creases looks terrible and unrealistic. The prototype has a perfect skin tone paint job.

I agree. The paint scheme used to show her on GentleGiant's site, while half decent at best, is nothing in contrast to the 2007 New York Toy Fair pictures we have seen. I hope we get the more skin tone colour as well. All of those orange highlights are visually unappealing. It's incredible what a average paint job can do to an otherwise jaw dropping fantastic sculpt. As long as the sculpt maintains its integrity through the transitional period of prototype to mass product, I believe this piece will still come out looking as one, if not GG's best. Great paint apps be damned! That is how great the sculpt on this piece is in my opinion. I am not even a big Carrie Fisher fan as aesthetics are concerned yet I find this statue probably more visually pleasing than any other female statue I seen before it.

Like Adam Hughes said earlier in this thread, we would be kidding ourselves (not exactly his words but you get the gist of it) if we expected to get exactly what was shown at these past conventions.

All we can do now is play the much dreaded waiting game, and hope for the best.

I'm fairly certain that much of the orange effect is due to some atrocious lighting and Photoshop post-processing, rather than the horrible paint job (although I agree that the paint job on that sample was pretty badly done).

Given that the TF photo is the most recent, I have no reason (at this point) to doubt that the final production pieces will look closer to that one.

We'll take that quote of your's to the bank RoboDad, but if you're wrong... would you be so kindly to let us know what your home address is? If for whatever there is a angry mob outside your house in the not-so-distant future, say, around the time GG Slave Leia is released, don't relate that to this post. :monkey3

Did someone at TF confirm that this is the production piece? Does someone have a pic of the one from SDCC and compare it next to the TF pic? If this last one is the production pics, then perhaps Leia will not fall prey to the Obi-Wan switcheroo fiasco.

Here's one thing I notice about the first photo to make me think it's bad lighting.... Notice the blue highlight reflections in the skirt. That only happens when something is photographed with a cool-colored light. With most photography, what usually happens is that any areas where the form is reflecting the light source, it also takes on the color temperature of the light. I THINK the reason the flesh tones appear to have that weird orange shadow is that in all the places where the form turns AWAY from the cool light, and the unnaturally cool highlights transition to the paint job's more warm-colored hue. Also, if the key or main light is cool in temperature, but all the ambient or fill-lighting is warm, you'll get a wide range of color temperatures when you go from highlight to shadow.

In the TF photo, notice how the highlights are a nice warm yellow. THAT light doesn't conflict with any of Leia's warm colors; hence, a more appealing photo. Also, the generic black GG base, which is the same black in EVERY statue I've ever gotten, is a really cool-colored black in the first photo, and a really warm gray/black in the TF photo. That's a dead giveaway of vastly different color temperatures in the lighting.

My 2 cents says its photography, and not the subject, that is the culprit.

My secret wish 'addendum' is that not ONLY do we get the production version looking as nice as that TF image, but that like every other GG statue, it's seperate from the base and has to be attached. If it IS, I'm drilling little holes in the Sideshow Jabba throne, so she can hang out with the big J and it'll be the Reece's Peanut Butter Cup of SW collectibles.

(That's 'two great tastes that taste great together', for the 1% reading this that missed that analogy. Gotta keep the thread from going askew with any "WTF is he talking about?!?" questions...."

Adam you thought way too much into this. I hope you don't go into a lengthy deal with yourself on what underwear you purchase.

Nah, I am just teasing you. It's really cool that someone takes the time to look at things others simply would dismiss. You live a very detailed life, not just in art but with all things. Big and small.

Adam,
You rock. Thanks for that analysis.
I also hope that the rumor from late last year that you were sketching up items for Sideshow's Star Wars license is true.
I'm sure you couldn't confirm or deny that statement.
Also, will you be at C4?

Well, I've been accused of 'thinking too much' by more than one person...

I recently got into posting on these threads. One thing to remember is, it only took me about 30 seconds of looking at that first pic to deduce what was going on, and 10 minutes to type it out. The only reason I posted was because I saw a lot of fellow fans and collectors postulating on what might be going on. Trust me, I only open my filthy, uneducated pie-hole when I'm reasonably sure I have something to contribute, and when I can either shed some light, or possibly help some fellow collectors find some answers. I always appreciate it when someone does the same for me.

The wacky thing is, now I've become this weird STAR WARS nerd-oracle for friends and colleagues. I just had a business dinner with several other comics pros in Seattle, and when the subject got around to STAR WARS, I accidentally ended up the one the other 5 guys were throwing all their "So, if THIS is the case, then why did so-and-so blahblahblah..." questions at.

BEST one I can remember: "So, if all the Jedi wear brown and beige robes with belts over their sashes (I didn't correct the cat by telling him the proper costuming term is actually & ironically 'obi'...), then how come Uncle Owen was wearing the same thing?"

My answer? "I always thought that since the Jedi were supposed to be poor, possession-free monks of a sort, that the "brown & beige with belt" look wasn't just for Jedi, but it was the 'ash & sack-cloth' of the STAR WARS universe, and that all poor and/or humble people dressed that way..."

The guy blinked at me three times and said "Did you just think that up on the spot?"

Trust me, when you draw as freaking slow as I do, you think about a million things when you're just scratching away at the paper...

But, all-in-all, I juuuuuuuus trying to help.

The Sideshow rumor is false; all I do at Sideshow when it comes to STAR WARS is purchase...

But I AM gonna be in the Art Show at Celebrations IV! I'd be going, even if I wasn't invited; it isn't every day your saga turns 30...

Adam don't listen to Eli, he's probably drunk! You rock and I love that you share your knowledge with us!

You gonna be at SDCC this year?
