ANNOUNCEMENT:

Hey gang,
I just wanted to let everyone know there is going to be a change in my upcoming commissions soon, which will also be affecting our future Ghostbusters commissions here.

I'll be dropping my use of Ada as my sculptor and will instead be using Side Show Forums very own Mr. Chris Howes! :clap:clap:clap

Ada has in the past turned out some exceptional heads for me but has atrocious business sense by competing with me in sales of the heads and other questionable ethics, and has the kind of QC everyone always needed to be weary about. I wasn't personally willing to switch however unless I found a sculptor who's work rocked me as much as her best efforts had, and in Chris, I most definitely have, and see a safer future there for us and future ventures.

Look for Chris to continue the Ghostbuster heads for us with Ackroyd on, my Doctor Who head commissions, and the Milla Jovovich commission I'm just starting up...

More details as they get banged out. Things like painting rates will be changing for sure. I'll let you know as I do.

I also sent out the tally's we had so far to Storeroom.com yesterday for how many Alice packs and uniforms we said we were interested in, so now we're just waiting to hear something back from them (again!)

So things are moving along and I hope to have more news for everyone soon!

You have chosen...wisely </old knight>

Seriously, good call WST! I picked Chris over Ada as well for checking into the Summer Glau project, and after dealing with him twice on two of his group projects, he is an absolute class act!

Keep us updated on that Milla project as well...I've wanted a nice RE Alice for quite sometime if you're going that route :D

I am not sure how I feel about the switch as everything I got from Ada I am happy with. I am sure you thought about it all though so I trust you

EXCELLENT!!! The Ray sculpt will be great! This project just went to the next level everyone. Please check out the work Chris has done already. This will be a great addition to the group. Awesome! :rock

Thanks, and understood. From a business angle, she really makes it hard to want to continue doing commissions. Too many people can wait and buy heads from her during her ridiculously de-valueing "buy 3, get 5 free sales" or whatever one she wants to run this week, and I feel it when not enough people legitimatly want to contribute for a heads creation.

Many attempted smaller head commissions flounder, not reaching a meager 10person goal, because people who don't want to contribute know they can merely wait and get it from Ada once it's been made, in a sale no less, and then the commission never happens. I don't care how isoteric a potential commission is, there are 10 fans out there. No potential commission should die.

As an example, almost 40 people were originally signed up for the Venkman head, so I lowered the cost from $35 down to $25 a head in good faith, but in the end, only 25 actually followed through and paid for Peter.

I'm sure many people would rather wait out and get all the Ghostbusters once they are made in a cheap sale through Ada. That doesn't help pay for their creation however. In truth, it's ridiculous she's literally in "competition" against those trying to make money back for having commissioned her. Now, that won't be an option.

If everyone who wants the other Ghostbusters really wants them now, they will only be able to buy them here through Chris and I. That will raise the order numbers for those other Ghostbusters, and in effect keep their prices down for the true fans that have supported this line so faithfully all along, because you guys are the absolute heart. That's the plan anyways. We'll need to wait and see as we get to them, because I'd hate to have to raise their prices back up because the other order numbers never got very high.

It's just about looking out and protecting future commissions, and also maintaining their quality, and Chris really is a class act.
-Rick :)

the change is fine with me WST. you put a lot of free time into these commissions and you shouldnt be stuck with the bill because a bunch of people seive out in the end. i, for one, appreciate these commission threads and i'm still in for the rest of the team no matter who sculpts them. ive seen chris's work on his website and i have more faith in him actually. his work appears to be consistently good while ada can go either way.

Thanks! Make sure you put your Summer commission up in the Whedonverse section if you haven't yet as well so the Firefly fans will see it! :chew

As I mentioned, I trust ya because you worked with Ada and know more about what works and doesn't. Since the way she is doing business hurts us from getting some commissions done, I know you did the right thing. I looked up some Chris' stuff and I look forward to seeing what he can do with this

A few qurstions that jumped through my mind because of the scoulpter-switch.

Did Ada not already start with sculpting Ray?
What will happen to the modification of the Ramis head?
And when will you receive the heads from Ada?
Will the prices be the same (for the heads done by Chris)?

-Chris

I just got my 4 proton packs and Murray head this morning. Murray head looks great ascetically, but I think he is a tad small. Not Mego small, but more like Medicom or Takara 1/6 in size. I had planned to put him on a HT body, but I'm think it might look a little off. What does everyone think?

The packs look great, but they are really gonna be a chore for me. I figured I'd be sending out my Murray head for painting and I was gonna tackle the packs myself, but I'm not sure I wanna do all four. Anyone out there wanna volunteer their talents at putting these together and painting them? And could we start adding tips (colors, sealant, wiring, etc) to the proton pack assembly thread Nick started--maybe if I see some other processes I might be inspired to take on the task of putting at least one of these together.

My Murray arrived today as well. Looks sharp, but I have not tested out how it will be on a body or anything

Do the heads come with a neck connector for a HT TrueType?
I have one laying around here together with one of those ST jumpsuits so I can at least get the feel of the character before I get the true GB outfits Shatner commissioned.

Got my pack and head today... Looks great, but as Slade said.. bit small. But I think it will look fine on a Dragon standard body. Now I just need the jumpsuit, and to find out how in the Hell I will get the pack made up. :lol

Got mine as well from Spook Central today! :rock

Everything looks pretty darned good. There'll be some cleanup needed on the backside of the packs, but I expect that as with all resin model kits.

I really like the Venkman head, I think it's one of Ada's finest yet. I also agree it is just a hair small, but I think it will work great. What we might want to do is loan Chris H. a copy so he could scale the other three heads close to Venkman as possible without being too small. Just a hair larger and I'd think this was a perfect head!

I'm glad people are finally starting to get their stuff! The Pete head does look a little on the small side, but not dramatically so. He looked okay when I held it up to a jump suited body. (whew).

The Proton packs are gorgeous, but damn, they ARE a lot of work! Painting and simple modification sculpting or sculpting monsters/aliens is about my only forte. Involved assembling of tech stuff just scares me!!! They may be sitting unfinished for awhile! :monkey3

Okay, reaching into my weekly letter bag, lets take some questions!

A few questions that jumped through my mind because of the scoulpter-switch.

Hey ya Chris!

Don't worry. I wouldn't do the switch if it was going to mess our plans up.

RAY

This was kind of touched on in the main announcement about switching sculptors, but follow-through on people actually paying for the heads was limited to just our die-hard core, and enough money hadn't come in yet to pay for the RAY commission yet.

To explain more clearly, I lowered the ordering price on all of the heads from $35 to $25 after Peters big debut and everyone saying they wanted him, (that's the half I use to pay for the for the commissioning cost being halved- the other half is Adas cost to make the copy of the head, which can't be lowered except on her end), because it was theoretically going to be made up by more people ordering.

But then only a fraction of the people came though paying for Peter, most simply wouldn't even respond to PMs, and only half the Peter people ordered Ray (meaning I was dumb for lowering his price like Peters optimistically so early on).

The real problem as I saw it was people not placing orders through the people commissionning the heads (us), but waiting to let everyone else pay for the heads, then they'd just buy the head/s cheaper off of Ada afterwards.
That's you and I not getting our heads made because of potential contributors having a different outlet for the heads, competeing with the people who actually commission them. A bizzare situation.

Not anymore. With this move to Chris, this will be the only place to get the Ghostbusters heads we commission and as we get to each character should see the contrubuting numbers on each head rise. The big picture is this is meant to help us all out in the long run. :)

Ray will be the first Ghostbuster Chris Howes sculpts, but now it is dependant on his busy work plate.

What will happen to the modification of the Ramis head?
And when will you receive the heads from Ada?

The Egon heads quickly took on a life of their own because we have such die-hard GB fans here, and it went from maybe asking her to modify her GB2 head into a GB1 head, to our planning to outright commission a whole new GB 1 Egon head from her because SO many people wanted a GB1 version we could afford it at the same price and get some variety on the heads. Egon was last on the list "to do" however, AFTER Winston, so now Chris will be doing him when we get there.

For those who still wanted a GB2 Egon head from her and sent me payment to get them as a cheaper group order, those are actually still coming. It's not like we've burnt any bridges with Ada. I haven't even had any communication with her about the switch, actually. I just not planning on commissioning any other heads heads from her. Normally I'd be tacking the GB 2 Egon heads on with a new head order so I'd get them in the same shipment. Now that I know there won't be any, I'll just be doing it seperately. :)

Will the prices be the same (for the heads done by Chris)?

Chris and I have both been so busy, we still need to talk details, but I will tell you this: I believe in rewarding the people who help these projects out, and hopefully I've shown that. Because you guys are making this happen. You guys are so passionate several of you paid for many character heads in advance. That ROCKS!

So in return, I try and do things like allowing you guys who do that to get multiple heads at cost, because in my book, you deserve it. Going forward, that won't be offered to just everyone. Thats just for you guys who did that.

And for those that paid in advance, if the price goes up, it won't effect you on the heads you ordered because you pre-paid. Newcomers would have to pay the new price, if there is one, but not you on the heads you already paid for, because again, you deserve to be rewarded. You are the legs commissions like this stand on and I can't begin to tell you what a joy it is to come here and see the same group of passionate people hanging out every day.

So on that, as I know more, so will you!

Every so often I like to pop on here and throw a word out and see how people react. I did it with the Ecto-1, and the resounding answer was: "Dude, that's my mortgage!" (laugh), but hey, at least we looked into it, right?

Here's another word I haven't talked to anyone about, but have thought about---maybe as a 1:6 rotocast it may be feasable and more affordable to get made from a fan stand point, so I just want to know what you guys think if we should try and explore it some day?

Todays word: TERROR DOG? :angelsmil

I can only speak for my dealings with Ada, but she was not the easiest person to deal with for a comission. There was a serious language barrier in my dealings with her which made things very difficult. I don't want my post to turn into an Ada bash nor do I want to derail this thread, but I think Chris will be infinitely easier to work with on future comissions for those interested.

A 1/6th model kit might be within the realm of affordability :D Though I'd still be up for a 1/6th Slimer kit.

Wasnt the TsukudaTerror Dog kit 1:6 ??
I have one somewhere , but I thought it was 1:6

Tsukuda Terror Dog

Indeed the Tsukuda Terror is 1/6 scale and it came with two sets of horns to make either the Vinz Clortho or Zuul forms.

Ok, who is going to make a few recasts of this one? :lol:rotfl:lol

@ WST: Thanks for your very detailed answer. You really make one feel comfortable. I really enjoy to come here and read the new postings. Thanks!

Narf!:banghead I was at Howes' webpage... Have you ever seen these two guys? We definitly need a Belushi...
