Mattel makes this crap but can't make OG figures the fans really wanted because the sales weren't there apparently. How many do they really think they'll sell of this?

There's a market for everything. If the movie is good and becomes relevant in pop culture, people will want toys/merchandise of it.

It's a risk on Mattel's part for sure, but it's better to have something out just in case it's a hit. They look about on par with what they did with the OG team. I'm actually surprised they gave each of the characters their own unique sculpt/tooling for the bodies.

That's a very good question. I believe these Mattel toys will be retail figures that you'll be able to find in stores, and historically speaking, action figures are for boys, and usually boys don't play with female characters, hence why they don't sell and they rarely get made. Mattel is also making the original GB team and they are also releasing the Ecto I for those figures. If they make a classic Ecto 1, I'll definitely buy one...that's about it.

Did Mattel say they were re-releasing the original GB team and actually making the Ecto-1 to release to retail recently? I must have missed that. I know they released the originals (and their variants) within the last few years, and were going to make an Ecto-1 with GB's with removable proton packs, but I think not enough people per-ordered it or something, so they never made it.

I will be very surprised if those are available in-stores. Aside from a TRU holiday 4-pack, I believe all of the original GB figures Mattel made were either only available at their Matty collector website and at conventions. So if for some reason you do want these, expect to pay Mattel's collectors prices and ridiculous shipping, so the figures will probably end up at like around $30 each. Of course I guess they could release them to stores, but I don't know..

OR... you could go into toys r us right now and get a REAL Ghostbuster figure from DST that is like 7" tall, with multiple accessories and stuff for like $13. Or go into a comic shop and get the deluxe versions with a massive base for like $25.

Yes, they said that a while ago. That was the plan, but things can change. :)

“Mattel is also doing a board game and six-inch figures of both the classic Ghostbusters and the brand new movie. The firm is developing a new Eco-1 and the collectable characters can fit into the car. Mattel is also creating the Proton Pack. What kid would not want to throw that on?”

I just hope they make a classic Ecto1 too, because it would be such an insult for them to make the new Ecto 1, which looks really lame, instead of the original iconic version.

That's a big if though...

I'm not so sure. Paul Feig has a pretty good record with female led comedies. Maybe it'll get my man card revoked:lol, but I enjoyed all his other movies with Melissa McCarthy. Still, though, something feels dirty about this being "Ghostbusters." I mean, he did the raunchy wedding movie with McCarthy, he did the buddy-cop comedy with McCarthy, and he did the Spy Comedy with McCarthy, he couldn't have done the supernatural comedy without it being Ghostbusters? I just have a hard time imagining anybody other than the original four as the Ghostbusters, male or female.

I guess this might be the biggest thing to get over for fans of the original movies and cartoon. I wouldn't have minded a fresh take on the original characters but with new actors; it might have worked, it might have not worked as with most reboots. We'll probably never know now, we just have this GB movie to pick apart. :lol

That game was great and essentially is GB3.

Indeed. The game to me is GB3 and the real ending for Ghostbusters.

I've said it before but the sole thing about this reboot I await is the turnaround on GB2 and it finally getting much more respect. That and probably introducing a whole new generation of fans to the original movies and animated series.
