Sounds like something that was "brought to you by the same guys that made Street Fighter: The Movie"

What's funny about that is when I saw Street Fighter, I kept thinking to myself, "this is probably as close to a GI Joe movie as we'll ever get". Oh the irony...

With each new figure released by Sideshow, I wish more and more this film used them as costuming consultants. This film would have at least had cool looking characters, but instead it just sounds like a terrible movie with terrible costumes. :(

That's my #1 gripe.

If Duke looked like Duke---I would probably pay the $8 to see a bad GI Joe movie. This looks like a Uwe Boll adaptation.

Just read this on Don Murphy's board. The guy posted about Hollywood-related things more often, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's right about this.

Heard from a Very Good Source- GI JOE

Happy 2009 to all and sundry.

So the story I heard was that the studio tested just the trailer before Xmas and the results were SO bad that they are scared ^^^^less that the film is gonna bomb. That Lorenzo is trying to see if he can get his producing credit removed and just act as a studio exec. That this crap cost $150m and they are going to all be in deep ^^^^.

Paramount had to make the film immediately or lose the rights. Murphy and others were sniffing around them- trying to do the film right. They chose a ^^^^ director- there is really no way to ever get a good film from a ^^^^ director. They didn't understand that it was the magic of the robots that made TF1 work. Lorenzo was the guy who had GI JOE as president at Warners for SEVEN ^^^^ing years and never greenlit it because he didn't "get" it. Then when he faces a 2m$ payday he "gets" it. Goldner is a poseur who acts like he is involved. He just let his guy Lorenzo do whatevers.

And a description of the teaser trailer:

Gi Joe Movie Trailer for Superbowl 2009
In early December Jason from Nuke The Fridge wen to a test screening of the movie trailer of GI Joe Rise of Cobra. Here his description of the GI Joe trailer he saw:

[...] What can I say about it? Well, it was horrible. No, actually it was worse than horrible.

The trailer begins with some jets zooming by and dropping some bombs. Then we see Dennis Quaid as Hawk talking to members of a new elite fighting force he says has been put together to fight terrorism.

We see a couple of terrorist attacks, some G.I. Joe guys dressed like Snake Eyes jumping out of a plane and the Eiffel tower being topped by what looks like some green ooze.

Next we see some quick shots of a number of characters like Scarlett, Channing Tatum’s Duke on a motorcycle, Sienna Miller as the Baroness sliding down a staircase railing, and a quick shot of Snake Eyes and Stormshadow fighting. About the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow fight…it looks about as bad as a fight from the “Double Dragon” movie from the early 90’s.

Finally we get another quick editing job of some action sequences that go by really too quick to make anything out, and then finally there is this really lame sequence featuring some horrible CG work, as a couple of rockets are launched at some Joes dressed again to look like Snake Eyes. They do this dive / twirl through mid air where they some how avoid the rockets as they swirl by.

The “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” title appears on screen followed by “Summer 2009.” In all the trailer was about a minute long. I was told they are testing the trailer for debut as a possible Super Bowl commercial.

There was no footage of Destro, Zartan, or Cobra Commander. More than likely because they look so bad, based on the above described footage. From the trailer, it looks like this is going to be a horrible movie. Way too cheesy for my taste anyways.

So I suspect that the Super Bowl is when we will be seeing this first teaser trailer. [...]

GI Joe Movie

The movie being scheduled for August 2009 then a trailer during the 2009 Super Bowl in February would be a good timing I agree. I’m impatient to see this GI Joe movie trailer myself: the description above isn’t appealing, but I have hope that the production team is taking into account the results of the test screenings and that the final version of the Superbowl trailer of GI Joe Rise of Cobra will be better.
:)

Producer of Transformers, director of Mummy, green ooze attacking the Eiffel Tower, pretty boy Duke, kid from Brick/3rd Rock from the Sun as Cobra Commander, a Wayans brother. Yep, that's a real formula for success

(actually, it probably is a formula for financial success. . .)

this movie was doomed from the start when they changed G.I. Joe from "A Real American Hero" to G.I.Joe "A Global United Nations Hero" I am so sick of Globalism all for the sake of money and pushing the idea of merging countries as One Nation

G.I.Junk!!!

THIS is the movie that people should be suing to stop it from being released.

:lol

Watchmen will bomb because it is already being incorrectly marketed as a superhero movie vs. the murder mystery it is. So people going expecting to see a Justice League type film will probably be disappointed. G.I. Joe will bomb because, from the producing, to the directing, to the screen play and casting, it sucks big donkey boner. Even the promo posters blew.

I totally forgot all about this craptastic looking movie until this got bumped back up!!

Maybe they will do the impossible:

A G.I. Joe movie that I don't want to see.

I've been thinking the same thing. You almost have to go out of your way and TRY to make a movie as bad as this will be. Especially with this brand.

How dare they mess GI Joe the movie up. Do these idiots at Hollywood realized how long the fans been waiting for a GI Joe. I hope the director realized that the average GI Joe fans are in their mid 30's and up. I probaly will see the movie anyway because I waited so long for it

There is hope....rename the film and characters, release it as a new franchise....give it to someone who is capable and really gives a damn about G.I. Joe and start from scratch!

That's true, I'm 31 and what I wanted to see on screen is what I saw on the comic books, G.I. Joe the comic book had gunfights, large scale battles, cool vehicules, ninjas, androids and the most important thing of all that: memorable characters, everyone of them had a very unique look and personality, some of them of them had an interesting past, some of them had romantic relationships, some of them were funny, others even being villains had a sense of honor...

From what I seem almost everything I remember about the Joes and Cobras has been changed in this movie.

Was it really necesary to make all of this stupid changes to make a G.I. Joe movie interesting for new fans? they could have made a hell of an action film with all the cool things the comic had.

And if all those changes weren't bad enough they had to make it a horrible lame movie, a movie so repulsive that could bury our chances of seeing a decent G.I. Joe in a long long time.
