whats so hard about that.

they should have used sideshow's pic for reference.

You really think that hood looks better than a clear plastic vagina on the face?

This was one change that really irks the ^^^^ out of me. That and how they wanted Snake Eyes to speak, somehow Hamma talked them out of that. They really screwed the pooch on the entire film. It's GI Joe by name only.

I think it's too late my friend ...too late.....

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I agree that all the kudos go out to Larry Hama for creating the look and style of the Joes and Cobra we all love so much. The 1980's cartoon drew from his creations, and reinforced our support of the look and familiarity of these beloved characters that are now being changed SO much for the movie. I recall Stephen Sommers saying in interviews in the past how he always tried to stay faithful to the properties he did movies for. He changed the classic Mummy, but I actually enjoyed that. The first two especially. But, why not stay faithful to the G.I. Joe property JUST enough to get the outfits at least close to what we're familiar with seeing.

I really loathe the concept started by Bryan Singer with "toning down" the X-Men uniforms/outfits to nearly all black. I remember him even giving one character in the first X-Men movie a line like..."did you expect me to wear blue and yellow"? It must have been Wolverine since that was the major colors in one of his familiar outfits. Anyway, so Singer knew about the proper colors of the X-Men outfits, and "reimagined" them in nearly all black. His first two X-Men movies were great. Don't get me wrong. But he should have left the outfits alone in my opinion.

Now comes Stephen Sommers with the G.I. Joe movie. He does that same thing! So much for the individuality of the characters! Oh yeah, is Brendan Fraser still playing the cajun marine, Gung Ho? I'm from south Louisiana. Fraser as Gung Ho? NO WAY. :horror I saw an interview a few months ago where he said he was going to play that role. A shoo in for him since he made the Mummy movies with Sommers.

Yeah, I'm an old-fashioned, "old school" fanboy of all of the properties I hold dear. Star Wars, Star Trek, X-Men...and G.I. Joe to name a few. If it was up to me I would have just left all of their outfits alone as they were. But I guess that just won't work today? Everyone has to wear black? At least they didn't put Snake Eyes in woodland camoflauge, or some other funky color. At least he stayed true to his character design for the most part.

I'm going to go see the movie in August....just to see how bad it is. I had VERY high hopes for this soon after hearing that a live-action Joe movie was coming. Now I'm VERY dissapointed as most of us are now. Again, I'm sorry. The movie Cobra Commander is NOT right. IT is so wrong.

I think the X-Men movie costumes were based on Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men.

Morrison's tenure on the title dealt with Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Beast, Emma Frost and Xorn. While the second squad of X-Men in Uncanny continued on as (now undercover) super heroes, Grant Morrison redirected these X-Men’s mission to that of teachers. Additionally, New X-Men artist Frank Quitely redesigned the look of the team, giving them sleek, leather / polyester outfits instead of their traditional superhero uniforms for a more contemporary look and feel.[5] The book also moved in a similar direction to other comics books, by reducing written dialogue.

EDIT: Never mind, the movie (which came out first) influenced the books (again).

I actually think Singer was "inspired" by the Matrix all leather looks. Just my own personal theory.

Not to get more off topic here, but at least with the X-Men the costumes are not as integral to the characters identity. There are many X-Men comics I remember where they aren't even wearing their traditional uniforms. Wolverine often sported a leather jacket, wife-beater, bare-chested, etc. The same goes for the rest of the team (except for the bare-chestedness) unless it was a major event.

With G.I. Joe, the identity was always in the gear/costume. Without the individualized looks they would have just been a bunch of regular looking army guys. In fact, if most people remember the first wave of figures, most were in variants of the green military issue uniforms with a few exceptions. However those aren't the most popular/recognized characters. The most popular Joes always had individualized uniforms and are the ones that are remembered the most.

That's the reason why Snake Eyes became the most popular selling Joe because he stood out from the crowd. That's the reason why I bought him as my very first 3 3/4" Joe figure because he looked the coolest in the black Commando outfit while everyone else looked generic in standard issue military green drab.
