No reason for people not familiar with the actual G I Joe franchise not to like it. It may very well be a decent summer flick, but it no way shape or form is it a G I Joe movie.

This movie could receive a 100% rating and I still have zero desire to see it.

What really surprises me is that, so far, this movie is being praised for being a "mindless popcorn flick" which is exactly what brought down the reviews for ROTF.

TF2 wasn't brought down for being a mindless popcorn flick. It was brought down because it was a terrible mindless popcorn flick.

My bro got a pass to watch the preview night tonight. Marlon Wayans will be present + the guy that plays the major lead. I don't believe in reviews except my what my friends reviews.

I'm with you there. My favs for this summer have been Star Trek, Harry Potter and Drag Me To Hell. Everything else has been average to bad.

I have high hopes for this film, I mean I really liked Mummy Returns but not anything since or before by Stephen Sommers. I am going to see it and hopefully I am pleasantly surprised.

Yup that was the point I was making. If they had called it anything else the "fan boys" would have loved it.

I still think the trailer looks cool. My kids are going to love it.

Exactly.
Aliens is my favorite film, yet if they labeled it GI Joe, it would still be a great movie and my favorite, yet have nothing to do with the RAH Joes I grew up with.
This movie only has the labels applied to it, little of the true substance of GI Joe.

Yeah, but it is still surprising. The rumors were that this had Paramount's lowest test screening score on record, but apart from that, the director sucked in everything he previously did, the actors don't seem very good, and it just looks very cheesy overall. If it can overcome all that and people can still have a good time, then that is quite an accomplishment.

It's still funny though, they didn't dare screen the film to legitimate critics.

Well, well, well... some real journalist reviews are starting to show up and the RT rating is dropping fast. 75% now. Imagine that.

These two blurbs in particular inspire tons of confidence:

It is so bad it makes even the worst of George Lucas' second round of Star Wars movies look good.

Bond without the style and Team America without the bellylaughs. The moronic script and nonsensical plot are good for a snicker, though.

That 2nd one is from EMPIRE magazine, who usually likes every genre film.

They showed a clip of this last night on TV, I dared my mom to guess what it was supposed to be. Her words when she saw the title, "That's supposed to be GI JOE? That looks ridiculous, they never looked like that." Point to remember, my mother was never a fan of GI JOE, but knows the looks and knows garbage when she sees it.

That's funny, MY mom said almost the exact same thing when I first showed her Snake Eyes, Flash, Breaker and the RAM in 1982...

There were whiney fans who regardless of how obviously superior the new BSG was to the old, they cling to the old series. Same with Doctor Who. Maybe GIJOE is the latest where the majority of fandom will embrace while a bitter few bleat.

the main problem isn't the fact that there are changes... it's that the changes are idiotic.

and that every clip and trailer i've seen indicates that it completely sucks as a film as well.
