Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

Could be the worst movie ever made. My point is that none of you have seen it and so far it looks like that review is the minority.

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

There is a faction of fans who just can't handle change.

There were whiney fans who regardless of how obviously superior the new BSG was to the old, they cling to the old series. Same with Doctor Who. Maybe GIJOE is the latest where the majority of fandom will embrace while a bitter few bleat.

:D

Yes, but it works both ways.

There is always going to be a faction of fans who INSIST that something is good (sometimes because they've decided so in advance), despite all the evidence to the contrary (e.g. the Star Wars prequels... well, one and two anyway). If someone tells me it's good because it's a "popcorn movie" one more time I'm gonna blow my head off.

Yes, everyone has their own opinions, but if I insist that "Ghost Dad" is a terrible movie, don't tell me that I can't accept Bill's "new direction" just because I happened to love the Cosby Show.

People with functional brains try to decide whether a movie is worth seeing before they waste money on it...

You don't have to see it to know it sucks... the director's previous work and the horribly ludicrous trailers give more than enough indication even without reading the reviews...

By the way those positive reviews were all from specifically selected reviewers that the studio invited for a private screening because they new they would give a positive review. The studio has pretty much admitted this already.

"After the chasm we experienced with `Transformers 2' between the response of audiences and critics, we chose to forgo opening-day print and broadcast reviews as a strategy to promote `G.I. Joe.'" --Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures.

So basically by not screening it to real critics until after opening day, they hope to rake in as much money as they can on name recognition before the real word of mouth gets around and everyone starts telling people how much it sucks.

I am not insisting anything. The movie looks like it will be good for kids, IMO. I just think its funny watching some of you guys get your undies in a wad over it.

But Marc, BSG has much more in common with its previous incarnation, and Who is the the same show just back after a looong hiatus. Remove Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Destros "mask" and Baroness.. and how much does this have in common with RAH Joes?

Then again, a monkey might fly straight out of your ass too! :p

Sadly, I think several of the older Joe fans will look at it as, "Well, this is all we get, so let's make the best of it." Doesn't make the hardcore fans boycott it people who can't handle change. I know I could've lived with an updated look for some of the characters, but they've stripped the RAH soul straight out of it, just like Hollywood did with the live-action Street Fighter movie. The similarities are glaring. Remember, they made the Street Fighters a UN force and changed Guile to a Belgian American, E Honda to a Hawaiian, M. Bison to a weakly Spanish dude, etc, etc., then packed it with cheesy one-liners thinking the audience would dig it. Did the same thing here...:google

Case in point, how Baroness calls the two new UN soldiers "Real American Heroes" in a cheesy nod to the figures or when Ripcord goes to touch Heavy Duty's buzz cut and HD grabs his hand midway and squeezes it - insert sucktastic "kung fu grip" remark... the movie's full of these groaners.

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

Anyone that thinks this might be good has clearly not seen the script.

Here's the spoiler for the movie if anyone is interested in the absurd...
Duke and Baroness are boyfriend girlfriend and Baroness and Cobra Commander are brother and sister. Cobra Commander drugs Baroness so that he can control her and she fights against Duke and the Joes until the mind control is broken and then the Baroness and Duke fall back in love and help fight the baddies together.

Guys in rubber suits, exo-skeletons, cheesy effects, massive building destruction.... I think this movie will be huge in Japan!:lol

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

I have no doubt that this will be as bad as Terminator Salvation

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

Variety gave it a decent review. Depending on who reviews it there, they usually don't give good reviews to "popcorn" flicks.

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

p.s. I'm 36. My first Joe figure was Snake-Eyes when they came out in '82. I have the entire Marvel comics run. I watched the cartoon. I collected from all of the lines since the re-introduction in 2001. I liked Sigma Six. I consider myself a hardcore Joe fan and I am excited to see this movie. It takes all kinds to make the world go round. Laugh at my taste, I'm used to it...

Oh, its definitely all about pushing their New World Order Global Agenda and making it look like the UN are the good guys...G.I.Joe is no longer American oriented...G.I.Joe-A Real United Nations Global Hero

Now why would you go and ^^^^ on my post like that?! It has nothing at all to do with your tinfoil hat crap and everything to do with douches involved in the film who don't have a clue what the ^^^^ they're doing a movie about and don't care.

Khev, doesn't this NWO crap fall under the politics/religion rules for the forum?

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

its an agenda by marketers and film makers that believe the rest of the world wouldn't want to see a film about americans saving the day. just like in Superman Returns where someone says "truth justice and all that stuff" instead of "truth justice and the american way".

Re: I know it's only 12 reviews, but I am a bit shocked!

I have no plans on seeing this movie because it doesn't interest me. Is that okay?

With the kind of self-righteous, judgmental posts that people tend to make on this subject, I'm sure someone will tell you it isn't. Some idiot was jumping on my case awhile back for saying that I would even consider seeing it.
