Wow looks like garbage to me. However, thanks for the heads up. I have heard that this was coming out but never seen a trailer. :monkey4:monkey4:monkey4

Go ahead and say it Badmoon - "wow, those shots look so CGI!" LOL ... everyone is entitled to their opinion. And, even I will admit, there's no telling whether the movie will be good or bad from 2 minute trailers. But, you have to admit, that's a perfect real world realization of the cartoon.

It just isn't what I remember of the cartoon. In the cartoon he wasn't racing the Wipeout type of environment. It has nothing to do with the CGI. It just over all looks crappy. I was hoping for something more dark and interesting. This looks more like what a rave would look like to a 12 year old. :monkey3

It looks like some kind of acid trip.

I'll just watch it for the effects though, I don't care about the cartoon and this seems like it could be really cheesy or just really weird.

It looks ultracraptastic IMO. It will probably make money especially overseas but it looks to be shaping up to be the bomb of the year to me. :monkey4

Only thing I'm interested in are the new camera optics they designed for this movie. And Matthew Fox as Racer X.

It's going to be a kids/family movie--rated G, I think.

My kids will love it, but adults who loved the original will probably just see this as a missed opportunity.

Yeah this will probably be a hit with kids and stoners....

and people with bad taste in movies. :monkey3 :monkey1

I could see the Watchowski's putting in some kind of sex stuff just to make it R--like what they did with the Matrix movies, the sex in those movies didn't have anything to do with extending the storyline, they were just in there for the sake of being in there.

I don't think there is anyway to take Speed Racer and make a good movie, so from my perspective at least they made something that retains the insanity of the cartoon. Even if they placed it on an F-Zero course.

I'm am happy to see the Mach 1 is not updated, so at least they respected the original design. Not a movie I plan on seeing, but I could see it being fun for the kiddies.

Looks like it could go either way... but, yeah, it doesn't remind me of the original cartoon, except for the car.

So, has anyone else seen "Speed Racer"?

This movie is going to bomb. First off, unless you're either a nostalgic fan of the show (or big-time into anime or over-the-top CGI) it's probably not gonna be your bag. I was quite "meh" about it, though a couple of folks in our group hated it while a couple of others (big Speed Racer fans) loved it.

BTW, we saw the Midnight screening at a prominent theater in downtown Atlanta. There were maybe 20 people total in the theater. No lie. Conversely, the IRON MAN mightnight show at the same theater last week was sold out and spilled over into a second auditorium.

At least we got to see the CLONE WARS theatrical trailer. :monkey1

Matthew Fox as Racer X is awesome, though. I would actually buy a 1/6 figure of him.

Re: So, has anyone else seen "Speed Racer"?

I have no interest to see this movie....I am not a fan of Speed Racer, but regardless the trailers have not impressed me and the movie just doesn't look good. I think I would be bored during the film. Though as you mentioned, fans of SR would probably love it.

Re: So, has anyone else seen "Speed Racer"?

Huge Speed Racer fan and was looking forward to this film mainly because it looks like F-Zero the Movie but as release day approached I found myself in no hurry to run out to the theater. I actually considered seeing Iron Man again before this. :lol

Re: So, has anyone else seen "Speed Racer"?

No interest whatsoever. I am even bummed that I will have to clean the theater auditoriums that will be showing it for the next few months. It looks like an atrocity... WAY too much neon. :lol

I think it may have even topped Batman and Robin in the insane overuse of neon colors, never thought it could be done. :monkey2
