Perhaps this thread should be renamed to Kaiju Collectibles?

Honestly, I'd rather not, I really don't care about anything outside of the Godzilla realm and like having this thread mainly focused on Godzilla with the occassional talk about other kaiju.

If anything, maybe the forum could use a Kaiju section, include Godzilla, Gamera, Pacific Rim, King Kong, etc.

I'd be fine with that but I bet people would be pissed about it. I was thinking of picking up the gamera line of revoltech and monsterarts. Just wanted to discuss them with people. This thread seems to be mostly godzilla kits.

Picky picky picky

:lol

Hey, my rules for Godzilla collectibles are the same as with women.

There's some proportion issues that hurt it for me, but overall, really cool and nice to see more love for the 2014 design.

T's Facto Godzilla 2014.

That can be said for most T's Facto kits in general. They are somewhat stylized. In some cases they try to hard to make the kaiju look natural. Now that would be great for the movie, but if I see a rubber suit in the film, that's what I want in my model. That's just me.

That's why I like Sakai and don't care for a lot of X-Plus pieces, Sakai captures the subtle features that define it as a suit but those make it look like it jumped right off the screen. X-Plus seems to approach their original sculpts with an attitude of refining the suit flaws and giving us what it ideally would look like and in some cases it ruins what could be a great figure. Their 12" '84 is a perfect example, the head is perfection, but then when you look at the body compared to the suit, the forms are very symetrical and tight and it just looks off. It also led to their '54 looking a bit too skinny, the '89 looks idealized like '84. I know some people are fine with that, and that's cool, I like stuff to either be suit accurate or very stylized, not something in between.

I think you are absolutely correct. There are certain things that make Godzilla Godzilla, and one of them is the suit itself. If you don't get enough of the nuances, then you miss it. Take for example the suit that was used for Godzilla vs Mothra (1964) and then again for Ghidrah: the Three-Headed Monster. Some of the facial features of the suit had begun to break down by the time it was used for the second film. They're subtle, but if you nail those subtleties, you can look at models from both movies and say "That's from Mothra....that's from Ghidrah". An X-Plus original would probably not only miss the distinction, it would probably miss the likeness period. That's where Sakai excels, and I'll also include Niwa and Asai in there.

I really just want to see what I saw in the movie, regardless of what it should have been or could have been. Here's a T's Facto kit that depicts a battle from my favorite G flick, Godzilla vs Biollante. It's very idealized or stylized and a huge miss for me. I would have preferred Biollante to have actually looked like that in the movie, but since she didn't just give me what was presented.

Well, to be fair, I think x-plus nailed their 30cm 64. To me there is never any debate as to which '64 film that figure is based off of. But they missed a good bit on their 25cm '75.

The 25 cm 64 is damn good as well. I think if they did make a ghidrah 64 it would be obvious to what suit its based off of. I agree on the 89 though

Their 64 is very good. I have seen better. Once again, it's about nuances, not necessarily the overall look.

Here's their old Ghidrah figure. Don't know what it says about anything, but I thought I would post it.

Oh yes...American x-plus and Japanese branch of x-plus definitely have a very different quality lol

Here's an example of what I mean about nuances. This MM28 kit captures the true likeness of the suit used, from the features, to the textures to even the stance and posture. X-Plus 30cm in first picture.

Yeah that 64 is SOLID! I wonder how much more that might cost than the $150 of the x-plus because that has to be a factor as well.

That's one picture. I could certainly find plenty that are more representative of the kit I posted. The point I'm making is that although both are recognizable as a 64 Godzilla the MM28 is more representative of the suit in general. You can't judge by any one specific screen shot.
