Detailing looks too simple and soft. I'm not enough of a Sakai fan to drop nearly $300 on something that feels like less than what we usually get (and for half that price).

Quite a bigger difference than what I expected. I was hoping the direction in quality would gear more towards the burning G. Looks good overall though! but for the price, it does raise an eyebrow or two. or three.

You just order the Sakai or the Diamond reissue as well?

Sakai, but now considering the regular lol

What is the difference????

Never mind I figured it out.... I thought the diamond reissue was the Sakai version... Did not pay close attention at all.

The G2014 statue should be thurs. :)

Eh? Less than what?

Also that video was shot in terrible lighting, nothing to judge but the sculpt (which is awesome, of course).

Comparing to this famous still from the movie, there's no contest.

I don't know how the detail can be soft in the Sakai 89. Here's Kaiju's post with a still from the movie and my comparison shot of Sakai's resin model and the original X-Plus 89. The Sakai kit and the just released vinyl by X-Plus match the still. Some of X-Plus's details are exaggerated on their figures. Why should that be okay because that is what we are used to getting?

I just think its a better figure. The x-plus 30cm one is more eye catching imo. It displays better. Maybe its a bit more stylized and godzilla looks more of a real looking creature and less like a man in a baggy rubber suit awkwardly trying to move like the sakai screen accurate one looks. It looks meaner and in a more aggressive stance. For half the price. The sakai only looks eye popping to me from the profile. Other than that its accurate but doesnt have the presence.

Besides, I think the view of those two figures together compared to that still from the film has a bit to do with it as well. The Sakai on display is more straightforward like that pic while the 30cm one is slightly turned to the left a bit. It's a subtle difference but I think the 30cm looks perfectly fine when looking at the suit from a similar angle, and perhaps the nicest looking shot of the suit in the entire film.

Just less baggy looking and more streamlined.

I find things I like about both... Sakai is more accurate by far but I don't care for the pose.. Just a personal preference... From the neck up I prefer Sakai... Neck down... X Plus.

I believe what he's saying is that compared to the original kit the details have softened, perhaps due to to the generational recasting...
He mentioned in the video that the teeth are soft compared with the pic of the proto...or perhaps the kit.

If xplus used the kit vs the original molds for their figure, it's on xplus...not sakai, but the pose is what it is....walking.

I prefer the sakai sculpt, soft or not, due to its faithfulness to what you see in the movie...it captures what the suit exudes.

The original xplus is nice and I have it, but it's just another interpretation to me that's decent, but too subjective .....

From my impression, I think the quality difference from the 1989 original Zokei kobo Resin kit compared to its X-plus recast is pretty considerable, and warrants some discussion.
The difference between the Burning-G resin and the X-plus ver. on the other hand isn't as big imo-- the texture is different (resin vs vinyl), but the paint app, teeth/claws, and overall quality are top notch.

My Sakai 89 review is coming from a non completist, I am just looking for specific pieces to represent what I like most about Godzilla, his power.

I made a mistake with the Sakai.

His overall size (height and girth) and pose just doesn't impress on the shelf.

GS is right, the regular 89 is the way to go, the Sakai contribution does not give him the winning edge in my books.

My wife said he is the worst bang for my buck purchase I have ever made.

I agree with her.
